I have i just needed to confirm it for some muppet on here

FOr the money they were paid good riddance. If mateo had control of his game he would be the best forward in the game by far.

The fact people wanted to sign these guys for the sake of signing them because there was no one available is just stupid.

CLub made the smart decision & because of some hard decisions it has allowed this new coach to go on a spending spree. SO congrats to the old decision makers whoever they are because of there tough decisions it has freed us up to go after who ever we wanted.

yes, the intentions were very good but our gains list for this year wasn't that great at all and that's probably why a few people were upset to see them go.

In May 2010 he was still our coach for 2011. It's not like he didn't try to sign a halfback or other positions. Halfback was the main priority for 2011 and it didn't happen. Sometimes recruitment and retention don't work out the way you plan. Keep in mind players have a say in what club they want to go to you cannot force them to come here.

So he chased an under contract Cronk,Thurston and over the hill Barrett and Noddy, And not to mention washed up Webb. While we lost Mateo,Inu,Caylo,Keating and Wright, Not all of it is fault as i have said he had to contend with the mess Hagan left him. But unless his plan was to sign no one and spend up Big in 2012 he didn't seem to have a plan at all.......

I don't particularly care that they are gone, it just bugs me that they were let go and no-one was signed to replace them; that is and always has been the only bad thing through all of this.
Players come and go regardless of how much you want to keep them.
I accept that perfectly.
Our recruitment for 2012 might be sitting pretty but our recruitment for 2011 was horrendous.

The players we needed weren't available for this year, and neither Inu nor Mateo would have agreed to one year extensions.

2011 had to happen. It's nobody's fault.

the thing about Mateo for me... it seems like the Warriors have given him extra responsibility... and maybe thats been thrust upon him automatically because of the salary he's on...

but he looks like he is being far more selective with his offloads... which i think in all the years i was watching him in a parra jersey i wished he would have done more of.

hes been outstanding this season... i actually think he would have been handy for NSW this series... theres not another backrower in the game that offers what he offers. his offloading game could of caused headaches for the QLD pack.

now that he seems like he's tightened up the other areas of his game... the rep plaudits will come.

but i also agree with the sentiments on the need for him to back it up... hopefully now he see's that he can play this consistent but still threatening style of play he will stick at it.

Keating, Inu and Wright... big losses... Cayless was going to retire regardless. Maybe the plan was to see how our 2009 grand final side performed over the first half of 2010 before working on signings and re-signings which is common sense. It was always Ozzie who was chasing Thurston, Cronk and Cooper. Thankfully our current coach demanded he have full autonomy over player signings.

In auckland he plays 80mins. Runs 20+ hit ups a game. Leads the teams in meters and the nrl in offlloads.

Drops loads of ball and misses way too many tackles.

It's fair enough to carry a defensive liability or two in your line but for most teams that's their halves. You really don't want a weak defender at the edge forward positions and if you do, you better hope your halves are top-notch defenders.

I agree Feleti Mateo is one of the best attacking players in the NRL but there's a reason he's never considered for Origin.

Doesn't excuse the fact that there were a lot of quality players we could have potentially recruited to improve our roster. It all comes down to the club taking a gamble on under-contract big name signings and none of them paying off, what irks me is that they seemingly didn't have a back-up plan for that. But then again, it's not like we could have tried to sign Cronk and after months of speculation, when he rejected us, just then sign Blake Ferguson after keeping him waiting all that time.
2011 had to happen in the sense that the club needed a kick up the a*se. Our current coach has seen to that.

You cannot have it bothways Boxy. You said earlier we've recruited well for next year BECAUSE we've filled the roles we needed to fill. As Poupou said the players avaible to fill the roles we needed last year just weren't there so we had to make do. If we hadn't made the grand final in '09 the club and coach probably would have entered the player market earlier so in reality 2011's failure was a result of 2009's success. In some ways it would be better if we didn't make the '09 GF because we'd have a completely different side now. But I wouldn't trade the ride of that year for anything.

If Sandow had decided to re-sign with Souths for next year, which looked extremely likely until the last minute, I wonder what the backup plan would have been. I can't think of one. In some ways SK has it easier than DA because he doesn't have to live off the hype of the previous year.

Not huge losses i agree, but they'd still get a run in our team ATM. Shows how our poor our sqaud is.

I had no problems with us letting either of them go, they were offered massive overs, But my problem was the lack of any sort of replacements. That is the main reason DA got the punt IMO.

Agreed. I think we burnt both ends of the candle with our recruitment. Should of had replacements signed before releasing the players.

Considering the players we recruited, I would have kept Mateo for 2 more years.

We didn't release them; their contracts expired.

There's a big difference in that we couldn't stop them from signing elsewhere.

Considering the players we recruited, I would have kept Mateo for 2 more years.

And how do you know he would have accepted a 2 year deal? He got 3 years from the Warriors.

Either way, I reckon he wasn't re-signed as much for his weaknesses as for his cost.

They were free agents and could do what they wanted. Both players decided to join the Warriors in early May before we'd been able to give them a sufficient offer and that's part and parcel of recruitment and retention these days.

er... you got stats to back that claim up??

last week he made 30 tackles and missed 2... hardly a defensive liability....

and i think you'll find that apart from hindy... parra's other back rowers couldn't match that...

1 week = backin' it up?

Round 3, 2011, Fatty Mateo; 10 tackles, 4 misses and 2 ineffective
