Finals Week 2: Sharks vs Panthers

So what was the reason for all this angst? It is not given. I can't believe it was Gus, as it was Gus who brought Lewis into the Origin development squad in 2003 when he had no need to whatsoever. Who dumped Lewis as Penrith captain? Ivan Cleary? And why? This is at the root of Lewis's issues at Penrith at the time. He had coveted the Penrith captaincy for a long time.
Lewis didn't want to part of a rebuild. He wanted another premiership. Fair enough at the stage of his career that he was at. Its really that simple.

Penrith fans must be the only fans who enjoy abject failure.

The reason was wrong.

You need to accept that Gus made a serious blunder.

Lolz. Dragons fan advising on snatching defeat from opportunity, how to run a club, lack of accountability and premiership contention.

Wishing you many years of Mary-led ordinariness once he's extended through his old boys club affiliation.

Lol. That rant was from a merge fan?!?!

Classic :D

A field goal away from the team Griffin hasn't beaten in 3 years at the club. It was worth a shot as far as the risk Vs reward is concerned.

I feel for Griffin on a couple of areas:
  • Did we ever play a Storm team during his tenure as depleted as the Rd 25 one?
  • The Sharks went with experience 3-4 years ago while we went with blooding youth. Where comparative talent is relatively even, experience will likely get the win (let alone our GM shitting on their only premiership to date).

You know all our juniors teams were top four this year. Hm made the finals. Sg Ball won the national champs. NSW Cup and Flegg were both minor premiers. Thats our future, We are stacked for talent.

Gould made some mistakes during his time here, the biggest one being hiring Anthony Griffin. Firing him was a correction of that mistake. But rebuilding the club from the base up in such a successful way buys him a few mistakes IMO.

Ciro was younger then some of the Sharks players. It was only his 6th game as head coach and he got closer to beating a top 4 team in the finals then Hook ever did. Ultimately he is equally as successful in finals already.
As I've said before, it is not a dick measuring contest.

all of this context is of academic interest only when for sure and certain the prize is beyond you and the reasoning trumpeted out to all and sundry was and remains wholly bogus.

Gus said he didn’t think hook could take you to a grand final. It was a mean-spirited and totally unnecessary derogatory comment that was without any professionalism or humility.

Hook was right to belt into him on the Foxtel.

And then his caretaker coach (who was supposed to get you to the grand final) gets nailed to the cross and everyone looks the other way.

Nobody was pleasuring the Guster when he stole Fittler and headed east.

A few home truths need to be embraced before the panthers can move forward.

With or without Gus.

Gus actually said he didn't care if we won the prem. He wanted to see improvement in key areas which has happened.

He was also right about Griffin not winning a comp. He's had plenty of chances and failed.

Everyone forgets Gus appointed him at the first instance.

Gus owns all of hooks failures.

And the ugly manner in which he turfed him out was forgettable, the reasons poor and you don’t even have a proper coach.

This poor kid is expected to carry an entire club on his shoulders. We shall see if he can.

He did make one. When we extended an average coaches contract.

Sacking an average coach because we expect more then making up the numbers in the finals is a good thing.

Broncos wouldnt settle for it (Bennett unwanted). Bulldogs wouldn't settle for it (Hasler unwanted). Roosters don't settle for it roster wise.

Why would we want to be another Dragons or Warriors who happily accept mediocre results? Not every change will improve a team. But refusing to make them at all guarantees you're not getting better.

The records will say we beat the Storm team that finished 2nd... In reality they had virtually a backline out

They also had an 11-2 penalty count at one stage in the first half. The records don't show one sided refereeing either.

Ciraldo in his 4th game beat Bellamy. Something Hook couldnt do in 7 years and 10 encounters with him.

Christ... how can a Broncos coach have 0% against any other coach they have played more then a few times? 8 of his losses were at Broncos. 2 with us.

We didn't exactly have a full strength team.

Mate the GriffGod would've taken your hand off to be allowed the opportunity to pick a team this year with only 2 or 3 missing. The bloke got us to equal 4th with half our squad missing most of the year, re-sign the king.

How'd he go in Brisbane when he took the team for himself? He's clearly been carried by Ciro the destroyer this year.

Storm also had a fair try called back and Olam bombed 2... Like I said reality is different than on paper
