Thanks very much. Looks like losing Johns may be a mistake.

For me Matherson Johns was younger and more likely than Garrick to make NRL.Tougher & better defender. The fact that he has gone puts more credence on WTA's rumor. There will be more people ahead of him and that is why the club didn't make an offer ?

Who have we let go that has really hurt us?
Merrin? Meh, hardly
Thompson? Not really
Packer? Had a decent season in a team that missed the 8 but nothing special.
Dugan? Played 14 games out of 27
Now who are letting go? Herbert? Seems to be talented, may hurt us but probably won't.
Garrick? Not a first grader.
Sele? Fringe first grader at best.
I reckon we have done a very good job with retaining the top players and letting go the underachieving or overpaid.

Thats what happens when you cut deals with players. Here’s a local junior who ends up playing as the under 20s origin centre and wins our player of the year and is not able to be offered a development contract because the 6th one was given to Hayden Lomax obviously as part of zacs deal. I’m only speculating of course but come on, there is No other explanation as he was fringe 20s and Trent peoples or Jayden Morgan were being picked in front of him. Disgraceful in my view and a bad message to our juniors. You got to remember this development system is new so not like before where you could train a player with first grade to encourage him these aare prized positions. So panthers jump on him and we loose a promising player and piss off our other good players. Great stuff... no wonder we struggle for depth.
As far as I know Johns is still a Dragon. What info do you have that says he has gone to the Panthers?

Were referring to Johns not being offered a new contract in your previous post? If not, do you know if we are keeping him or if he is going to Penrith, as someone else previously said.

In terms of backs they have Duffty, Perreira, Mann, Aitken, Lafai, Lomax, Nene. I can't see any one better out there available than these 7. That leaves 2 spare as back up. No need for backs. You can even throw in Jai Field but he is a great back up for the halves.

Saints need more forwards depth for the bench.

What if Saints move Hunt to No.9 and Field to 7? McInness was good last season but Hunt would be much better. McInness can be used on the bench.
LOVE this idea !! exactly, use maximum bang!! Field will be a gun half if given the chance.carve em up!! all he needs is to keep working in D! which he seems to be

OK but he wasn't mentioned in the 5 being released by the club and I can't find anything on the web saying he is gone. Penrith always try and bring their juniors and don't import many. Seems unusual is all.

Have you heard this Samy?

Right or wrong, I think they would have worried by his poor form at under 20s SOO. Wouldn’t have played if Lomax was available in any case.

He probably just stalled a little in comparison to others and should be a good signing for Penrith. Possibly a better opportunity given injuries in backline.

So not 5 gone, it is 6 gone.

More interesting for me were the names not mentioned:

Nene - very strong mail he's gone. Maybe waiting to after the PM1X game and then say he requested a release to be closer to home.

Allgood - remains our only unsigned player but not mentioned as retiring or not being re-signed. Unless he is droppung back to a tier2 player.

Matheson Johns - wasn't he supposed to have signed with Penrith? Yet, he was presented last night as our young Dragons centre.

Nene had not asked to leave yet.
As you say it will be made clearer in November.
Also who is coming to the dragons.
Sele was offered a good contract so don't blame him for leaving. Dragons decided to go with Jackson Ford he is quality.

Sele and Ford are completely different styles of players for completely different roles and positions. Considering our lack of quality depth in the forwards, letting Sele go will come back to bite us hard.

I don’t see Sele playing in front of Lawrie, Host or Leilua, he may have seen a bench spot that we don’t have to give. I don’t think the prospect is much better but the money may well be. It depends on what they want to do, we have no control over that.

Ford is a lot closer to the type of lock we need to replace De Belin off the bench. He might still see himself playing out wide and so it depends on his development. Looking towards 2020. Has some similar qualities to Josh Jackson.
