Obviously you don't read other posts, you have no idea who caused the situation of missing out on making the 8 (Did you watch the Parramatta game?), even the media gave Flanagan and St George a B+ for there efforts after having them hot favourites for the Wooden Spoon.
Also do you realise without Flanagan we would be in contention for playing the Spoon Bowl,
2024,2025 and 2026.
Without Flanno St George would have finished last or 2nd Last -290 points differential no doubt, Flanno had a Plumbing business, luckily he knew his trade quite well, because the Shit he had to fix from McGregor, Anthony Griffin, Bunt and Co was mammoth.
Extending Flanagan’s contract until the end of 2028 is a must.
.
I agree 100% except extend his contract to 2030. We have had all dud coaches up to Flanno. Lock him in long term and quality players will want to come knowing Flanno is here for the long haul.
Go the MIGHTY DRAGONS!

I don't understand why we need to extend his tenure now. I think he will be our long term coach, but why the rush ? All going well, he will be offered an extension.

Wayne Bennett was only given 3 years won us comp, then said bye bye, then 13 years of successive duds, if he had been given 5 years from the beginning, no Steven Price and No Mary.
St George under Flanno make the 2026 GF, but it too late he's gone to a Rival club for 2027, the start of another 13 years of shit again.

Agree to disagree.

Yes ,we fooked up with Bennett. Im not sure how you can claim we get to a GF in 2 years. Anyway, it's moot.

Edited to add. Flanno is not Bennett. He needs to earn his extension, which Im sure he will.

My take is that there are less than half a dozen coaches who are secure in their positions as quality coaches that other clubs would pay a mint for. The rest are turn styles.

Only two players did not buy into Flanno's plans and both had previous massive gripes with the club and coach Griffin. Hunt because Griffin was sacked and Lomax due to Griffin screwing him around.

Even Blake Lawrie appears to have taken the off season as an opportunity to prove himself.

Flanno has brilliant media skills and clearly articulates where he is at, where he is going, and follows through. So far, he seems to have our idiotic BOD in his palms - only Bennet has previously done that!

I don't believe any other coach could have done a better job and I reckon Flanno is one of the half dozen.

He is building a culture that will attract even better players next year and beyond, whilst also nurturing our talented youth

That's why we need to lock him in ASAP IMO before someone else identifies the bleeding obvious and recruits him.

You've highlighted some of Flannos best attributes. That is all good.

As we all know things can go pear shaped for a variety of reasons. I hope they dont. My point is there is no need for us to trigger an extension now.

I agree that things can go pear shaped but when you consider the Eel's signing a rookie coach for 4 years and Benji Marshall, with no coaching experience ever, for another 3 years, you start to understand the coaching market.

Flanno's a proven premiership winning coach, who has a sub standard roster on an upward trajectory, but only 2 years on his contract left.

The cut throat market demands an upgrade ASAP

This is persuasive. If we lost Flanno, who would we get?

He has 2 years left.

We brought him back into coaching. As fooked as we are, we deserve some credit here. I again don't see the need to upgrade now.

In fact, I see it as negligent. 2 years left, without a ball being kicked and we extend the bloke ?

Anyway mate. We won't agree on this.

Well done, I couldn't be F'd arguing, I believe many here, aren't real St George supporters, and are quite happy to see 1 or 0 premierships every 40 year's.

Another dick head!

What I have always wanted is a long term coach who is not only talented but bleeds for the club and delivers success.

The storm have Bellamy, The panthers have Cleary and the Roosters have Robbo. I have always envied these clubs.

I believe that Flanno is our man to return the Dragons to being a continuous competition threat (The good old 70' & 80's)

You are correct when achieves something higher than what Hook did then by all means look at extending him.
If he doesn't punt him.

Too many in this place judging 2024 outcome based on what the media said about us being spoon favourites well before a ball was kicked.

Then the media got on board all of a sudden S F was coach of the year material and we were headed for the semis FFS they even had as favourite for Anzac Day and we all know how all those aspirations ended up.

Would any good club be extending a coach let alone long term based on the results of our last 4 or 5 games?

Far too often we fall for the monkey trap.
