Anybody who proposes in public (or private) without having a real idea of the outcome is open for embarressment and rejection.

Just like announcing the signing of a marque player before they sign.

That's true. I feel sorry for that bloke, but if you do it out in public like that, there is always a chance you could get embarrassed...

you've been burned before have you gronk? how embarrassing for you dude

Haha.

I heard about one guy who proposed at his mates wedding when he was the best man. He was pissed and proposed to his GF when the speeches were on.

She gave him an emphatic NO on the mic (fail #1) and then the bride lashed out at him cos it was HER day (fail #2).

Still haven't seen a source for the Bulldogs rumour. Until I do, I'll assume it was pulled from someone's arse.

With ya on that one. The NRL wouldn't let a deal be registered primarily based on third party deals. The other clubs would burn the place down if they did.

I believe Folau is all about the money

He is nor should anyone have a problem with that, good luck to him.

Took the biggest offer when joining Brisbane and did the same with the AFL. Can't remember the exact % but each year on what he earns there is an amount goes to the church.

Instead of us paying him $600K and him giving the church $150K, couldn't we sign him for $450K and give the church a nice big donation, say $150K?

Id have a press conference tomorrow at 11am to announce both the memberships are on sale and a triple signing of hayne, izzy and hock, In attendance would be ricky, hayne, izzy, that ken edwards bloke and a few of the parra cheer leaders (no, not that one)

And that, my friends, is the rare as rocking horse shit 10 out of 10. It literally brought a tear to my eye.

it would absolute lunacy to pay Izzy money that he intends to donate

as stated above, give him the $450k, donate the $150k, its tax deductable and it saves you $150k on the salary cap. The church wont care who's names on the cheque and no one will be under the illusion it's a result of anyone other than Izzy. Except you can recoup some of it and it saves you 150k in cap space

you're probably right, but it is not necessarily the case that the donation is tax deductible. Also the value of tax deductions depends on your effective marginal tax rate, and the last time I had my head in the books of clubs, their effective tax rate was bugger all.

From a salary cap perspective, though, it might work.

Also depends on whether the 'donation' approach is recognised as equivalent to the 'tithe' approach by his religion. I'm sure it's been tried before.

Didn't we make the same type of press release about another player that we wanted at the club ? T-Rex maybe ?

It's a bit like grabbing the mic at a shopping centre and asking a girl to marry you, hoping that she will feel pressured to say yes.

How come other clubs work quietly behind the scenes and we do the opposite ?

Mate is this how you did it with the Slavic siren?
