It is laughable when you consider;

1. We had Hindmarsh and Burt retire, Poore leave and finally should have seen the back enf of Mortimer, Tahu and Grothe contracts.

2. The cap rose by $500,000

3. We released Esi Tonga and Horo.

4. Other than Sandow, Mannah, Moimoi, Hayne and Maitua mayne there isn't anyone who could be considered on more than $250,000 on the open market.

Someone has f**ked up seriously and we are probably over last years cap if this is the case.
When you sum it up like that i feel violently ill :(

i think the biggest problem may have been there was no football club CEO from when Ozzie left til a month ago, or maybe Ozzie was the problem?
Backended deals seem to always be a problem at our club.

Isnt it a little weird that lots of posters believe almost without any evidence at all that Parra has a whole bunch of "back-ended" deals bringing us undone.

Isn't the most logical problem that any cap free come nov is given out as forward deals to make good use of the rules teams trade under. Partnered with the fact that bring 2-3 even 4 deals together across as many individual teams is extremely complicated, each needing to be accredited on their own merits...

Besides back ending Hayne's contract, we have added bunch of players since last year. Even though they're mostly nuffies, four nuffies on minimum wage is still over $200k. Then Paulo, Ryan, Kelly and Sio would have had their contracts at least doubled. There's another $200k+. Lussick would be on at least $200k, probably closer to $300k. It all adds up.

I doubt Horo would have been on much more than $100k, and EsiTonga would have been on close to minimum ($55k). Why would anyone expect we would have much room left?

Exactly. Signing bonuses (front loading) is far more likely than back ended deals. Especially for contract upgrades.

I stopped by the other day to see if I could catch the boys training and did think it odd that there were 25 ferraris parked in the car park :)

Seriously though if the reports are remotely accurate then it does my head in thinking how the club got into such a bad position with the cap.

Where did you pluck these numbers from? Seems like a lot of coin for a nuffy.

Apparently though Hayne's contract is the issue and that was before Kearney's time......

Well if the cap didnt increase by 500k we would have been stuffed, if that is case who ever negotiated Haynes contract must be an idiot because there is no way they would have been able to factor in the cap increase back on 2010

You can be paying 100k of a player's salary if you release them early to another club which counts under the cap, but they're not part of the 25 either. I'd be surprised if we weren't paying Hoppa already. The club must have offered him a pretty sweet deal for him to jump ship when he did.

Ozzy stated at the time of registering the contract that there were some things they needed to 'sort out' with the NRL to get it lodged.

Strong rumour has us paying him $120k for 2012 and 2013.
The good news is that means his 2014/15 amount is a lower yearly figure.

No sources - just rumour and innuendo there.

I'd also suggest that we're subsidising Horo's move to manly.. Again, strong rumours had him earning $200k+

At the expense of sounding dumb, can someone explain to me if we are as close as what people are saying to being over the cap, how is Hoppa going to fit in come next year?

Weren't all those players mentioned resigning or signing with eels at the same time we were offer large sums to t-Rex and hincliffle ? If so there must have been some cap space.

Does it add up? -350k for Hindy, -350k for Poore, -400k total for Shacks and Burt, -150k total for McGuire and Atkins, then 500k increase in the cap... that's an extra 1.75m we should have had to play around with the cap for next year. Do you really think the signing of Lussick and the marginal upgrading of a few buddies and yet to be proven first graders would total that expendature for next year?

ED, u aren't taking into consideration of cap concessions for Hindy and Burt. I think 200k.
