It would be a bit unfair to compare gasniers contract to izzys situation purely based on $$$.
But i will agree on the comparison based on them both being rejected originally, and for them to be told by the NRL to come back with a more reasonable first year salary for the players involved. (Good to see some sort of consistancy !)
Parra alledgedly want to pay izzy about $110,000 for a full first season ! (then backend the contract), whereas Gasnier ended up getting paid $120,000 for just under half a season (then backend the contract) !
So i guess parra have to do what the dragons did, and resubmit a more realistic contract.
I must admit though, the dragons were lucky that gasnier retired before the club had to pay the bigger dollars !
Also, parra has the benefit of the $500,000 proposed increase to the cap.
Not sure how parra got into this situation re cap dramas.
But it seems even parra supporters think the finances have been badly managed !
Anyway, i hope parra get izzy, as it seems as if he is happy to play for you guys !

Sorry - I'm confused. Are you implying that Hoppa will be paid in sandwiches???? :sarcasm:

No its 8 years. Both Fui and Smith made their first grade debuts in 2004 so will be entering their 10th years of first grade next year.
8 years, even better. Ah yes, 3 appearances in 2004, you are right. I have always thought that it would be worth it to re-sign smith due to this. Hayne will be playing his eighth season next year, but can it only be paid to a certain amount of players like the marquee player allowance thing? I gotta read up on this..

So put up or shut up. How much do you reckon they'd be on?

I'll lock in B - shut up thanks Eddie.

Was just keen to understand the basis for the view that we don't have any cap space because for the reasons that the Colonel outlined it would seem a very poor position for our club to be in. Particularly when you overlay the strength of our roster compared to other clubs.

Perhaps its like one person going into woollies with $10 and handful of really good vine tomatoes (and possibly even ripping off the stalks so they go through cheaper). The other person the uses the $10 to buy a few jars of home brand tomatoes in a tin and doesn't wait for the change from the check out chick.

I guess Parramatta is stuck with a few overpriced home brand tomatoes.

Have a lovely day.

What about going to the self checkout and putting the vine ripened tomatoes through as carrots.......even better!

Seems we kept pressing the caviar, truffles and champaign buttons instead of the carrots, spuds and onions buttons to me.

I think what it means is that we have more money tied up in fringe first graders (ie. players competing for a first grade place) than the top clubs. What this means is we have better depth (we have more backups capable of playing first grade) but our top 17 in any given game will be weaker than the top clubs (because a larger number of them will be fringe first graders).

The downside of this 'rotation system' are that with a more even spread of talent (apart from Hayne and Sandow and Folau if he comes), there is only so much of the salary cap we can fit on the field at any one time. This is why it is proven in pro sports (especially under a salary cap) that the best way to manage a squad is to have a clear 'first team' and backups. Too much rotation - too even the spread of talent throughout the squad (and I mean between first team and backups, not within the first team itself) just leads to mediocrity. The upside is it makes it easier to cope with injury.

With the size and quality of our junior nursery, we should always have exceptional backup to most clubs. We have totally stuffed up the top 17, by mismanagement of the cap. No ifs or buts, not to mention the talent coming through until just recently thanks to Peter Nolan and Ricky Stuart it would seem.

f**ked if I know why T-Rex didn't want to come. We've got $110K up our sleeve that he missed out on.

I guess he wasn't to know we were going to release Horo and Esi to make this sort of coin available.
