Foran Is Coming

While the Warriors enjoy the festive season, there's one present they won't be getting under the Christmas tree - Kieran Foran.

Chief executive Jim Doyle has confirmed to Newstalk ZB's Tony Veitch that the troubled NRL star's future is still undecided and a decision won't be made until January.

But despite the delays, Doyle wants to reassure everyone that Foran's transfer is inevitable.

"It's a process that we're working through continuously," Doyle said. "We're working with the NRL through all aspects of getting him ready, and we'll get there."

Foran has been in meetings with the NRL's integrity unit to determine if he's fit to return to rugby league after he left the game earlier this year following a host of off-field, personal issues that saw him released by his Paramatta club.

While that decision lies with them, Doyle also stressed the need to have a healthy Kieran Foran back at his best, both physically and mentally, before the club can even think of signing him on.

"He's still got personal issues he's working through, but he's working with the right people," Doyle said.

"With your mind, you don't just wake up one morning and say, 'Right, I'm fine now,' you take time and you need people around you to help you going in the right direction."

Coupled with that is Foran's shoulder injury which had him sidelined earlier in the 2016 season.

According to Doyle, it's still not 100 per cent, and that may affect the timing of his return.

"Kieran's also recovering from his shoulder injury, so he can't be on the field at the moment doing contact and doing post-sessions with the team, he'll just be training with some of the other players in rehab.

"At the end of the day, if he's ready for round one that'll be perfect. If he's not, and it's round two or three, well that's fine too."

I'm confident we will get the green light after Doyles latest press release. Even though nothing new was mentioned he seems pretty focused on the goal of working well with the NRL process.

I suspect a lot of it will be around the police saying they have no interest in him in relation to the betting allegations.

Sorry Chief!
Apology accepted :)

If it gets to round 1 or even halfway through the season and Foran still hasnt taken the field, might not be such a bad thing when you look at the positives like developing other players at stand-off. Gives time for Foran to fully recover physically and mentally as well. Yes it'll be costly but hes worth it IMO. The professional development opportunity of another squad member on the field and the careful preparation of Forans return, may pan out cost effective in the end.
- $600 grand for one year (I think it is, Villa theres your chance to pounce on correcting me)
- hes only here for a year so if we have to wait, as I said before we develop the long term players which Foran assists with at some stage
- value. He walked away from millions. World class on the field. Filling a vital weakness we have.

A silver lining just in case we get to round 1 and Doyle tells us the transfer is still a WIP.

Yeah, I'm not really concerned if he misses rounds, either at the start due to registration issues (doubt it) or through the season resting his hamstrings (I'm going to guess that's fairly likely) - as long as it's Hingano playing in his place. That's still an upgrade over TL at 6.

I hope they both get a chance there but more so Hingano as he seems more composed. Name Tui on the bench and let them really compete for that spot whilst Foran is in the background mentoring them both, possibly offering his perspectives at half time. That would be the difference from last year in that 6 jersey is a bit of depth and of course, Foran.

Kieran Foran’s return with the Warriors not set in stone

KIERAN Foran’s troubles look set to spill over into 2017 with his start date for the Warriors uncertain.

News Corp Australia reports that Foran is unlikely to make his debut for the Warriors against the Newcastle Knights in Auckland on March 5.

It is understood that the NRL integrity unit holds reservations about Foran fulfilling the commitments he was asked to meet before being cleared to play.

The troubled 26-year-old must prove he is fit to return to rugby league after he left the game earlier this year following a host of personal issues that saw him released by Parramatta.

Foran is also continuing his rehabilitation from a serious shoulder injury which has prevented him from training fully with his new teammates.

Chief executive Jim Doyle says it is all-but inevitable that Auckland-born Foran will play for the Warriors but the start date can’t be guaranteed.

He said Foran and the Warriors were working diligently with the NRL and the player’s personal wellbeing was improving steadily.

You read this sort of thing and the "pissed off with all the bullshit " rises to the same levels as end of season 2016.

Why can't the Warriors just lay it on the f**king line.. forget the 'hopefully or maybe' bullshit and just spill their guts honestly to the people who matter... the fans.

We signed Kieran in what, November? And this isn't going to get resolved by March? What the f**k is happening here.

I doubt it's the Warriors at fault, I'd be very surprised if Doyle is sitting on his hands. What possible good does stringing this out do? Is Kieran going to prove something in March that he hasn't already? Is he on a six-month good behaviour trial? Or is the Integrity Unit on month-long holidays.

This has the potential to get really aggravating the more it goes on in the New Year.

Suppose we have to remind ourselves the only reason we're getting him is because of his personal struggles, and therefore all this is part and parcel of the fortune we have.

I guess the NRL is making a statement to other players.
If you walk out on your contract don't automatically assume we will register your new one.
Doyle must still have faith because he's going to look a chump if this goes wrong.

The NRL are foolish using Foran's situation as an example. This should had been slammed on the other idiotic examples that have risen the last few years. Doyle won't look like a chump trying to work with the NRL it will be the other way around.

He won't look a chump for trying to work with the NRL, but he has got all his eggs in the Foran basket.
By the time this is resolved there will be no chance of any new signings.
And while others have every confidence in our squad I think we lack some bruising forwards.

It's pretty ordinary though. Their indecisiveness is perplexing. The NRLs lack of urgency and visibility on the issue is pretty ordinary for fans who have an interest in it
