Former Panthers in the NRL

Moylan is looking like he often he did with us. A few moments of brilliance but otherwise a lot of passes left and right with no real thought about the overall direction of the attack. He can’t lead a team around the park.

It is remarkable how much the Sharks’ attack tonight has looked like ours in the last few years. They couldn’t score a point within the 20 m zone. They looked flat and directionless.

I don’t know if you watched the same game as I did. He had a decent first half and a shit second half.

They need to get Hodkinson out. He just gets in the way. So many times in the 20m they went to Mr no knees and ignored Moylan. It got worse as they got more possession.

So now Moylan is playing full back he is no longer contributing to problems with the attack?

The Sharks looked much better last week (even though it was a penalty-a-thon) with exactly the same halves but no Moylan.
Molyan created heaps in the first half. Hodko got the ball way too much in the second. Moylan did have a poor last 20 mins.

I agree that his 1st half was pretty good, but his 2nd half wasn’t good at all.
Moylan hates being hit hard, as soon as someone puts a good shot on him, he becomes scared to take the line on and looks to pass 1st... when Moyza is going good it’s run 1st pass 2nd.

Before that try off the kick it was 47 tackles inside the 20... So many memories that brings back

Moylan isn't a 5/8 but a Hodkinson/Townsend halves combo is the worst halves in the comp.

Halftime was very good. It was shades of the Souths game last year. He had a stuff up and went MIA

Sometimes in the past this has been true but not tonight. The amount of running he did trying to wrap around and get the ball was huge. He was f**ked with 30 to go

He got hit by Mitchell just after half time and didn’t take the line on again. I’m a Moyza fan, but he needs to harden up, look at how the good FB run the ball back, he’s no where near them.

The Moylan is soft meme is really overblown.

The Moylan is soft meme is really overblown.

It became massively apparent once Edwards took over at 1. He runs the ball back and plays tough footy every game. Moylan is more of a ball playing softy, he doesn’t like the hard stuff. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a great player, just means he needs to be used correctly and FB isn’t his best option.

I think it is largely due to the fact that he grew up playing touch football and ended up playing touch football at a high level.

His touch footballing heritage is really evident in his style of play. In touch you have to be good at timing passes - silky well time passes to put running players into gaps is the best skill you can have in touch football.

It is also a great skill to have in the NRL, but you also need physicality in the NRL which Moylan lacks.

Furthermore in touch football the defence is pretty much always back peddling (play the balls are always quick). So Moylan doesn’t have good instincts about what to do when the line is advancing on him.

He also doesn’t have a kicking game.

I have stayed out of the Moylan v Maloney debate until now but have long harboured doubts about Moylan. I was in truth quietly optimistic about our attack improving when he left.

That is all Edwards does well over Moylan. Edwards should be running off the forwards offloads. That will come with time but ATM give me Moylan at FB over Edwards
