That is all Edwards does well over Moylan. Edwards should be running off the forwards offloads. That will come with time but ATM give me Moylan at FB over Edwards

Wowza.... Edwards is better under the high ball, returns the ball better and can tackle... he’s also positionally better and is faster.. Moylan is a better passer of the football. I’ll take Edwards every day of the week and twice on Sunday’s... not sure what you are looking for in a fullback.

A bit more in attack. Fullbacks these days are like an extra 5/8th.

Coote aved 62m per game when they won the comp. Barba 82m when Sharks won. GI and Slater the other 2 FB of the last 5 years both ball play a bit.

Need a bit of both in his game

Moylan not yet back to his best. It surprised me that the Sharks didn't get the ball to him more in the last 20.

They are Fullbacks 1st... Moylan is a 5/8 playing fb. The good ball playing FBs can also do all the stuff a FB should do. Moylan doesn’t.

How many games do you remember us losing due to him dropping a kick or something back there? Has Edwards had a try assist? Even 10 a season is a huge help to the halves

I can remember heaps... Are you serious.. countless times he just stood there and let the ball bounce, how about the time he stood on his 10metre line and let Coote jump over the top of him and score under the posts! It use to drive me insane every time the ball would go up between him and Sauce... then there was his inability to tackle...

Don’t worry about try assists, worry about what Fullbacks are meant to do, like tackle and defuse bombs.

You don't win comps with one dimensional players. Do you think the Edwards or Kikau we are seeing now are complete players? 20 games in I hope not. Part of Edwards development has to include increasing involvement with the ball

Edwards is a hell of a lot closer to being a complete fullback than Moylan is. That’s all I’m saying.

i'd prefer a consistent, solid, hard running fullback in edwards then an inconsistent, flashy but sometimes clutch fullback in moylan. dyl has only played 21 games and this is his second season, he still has a long way to go but so far i'm really liking him

We signed him as a half. He played wing in 2015 even his FG game in 2016 was on the wing. So is a work in progress I think will get there but that best is 2 seasons away

You can tell hes playing within himself but I've seen almost zero playing ability from Edwards in first grade

Hard work got him to this level. Limited FB experience too. He has been solid and start sets well but we have done that well since Ivan started. Yet to see anything with ball in hand

Edwards’s best assets are his kick returns, his safety under the high ball, one on one cover tackles on players who have broken the line, positioning in defence on our own line and cleaning up in the in goal. He is much more reliable at those things than would be expected for someone who has played only 20 something games.

He has decent top speed but his acceleration isn’t great, so it is hard for him to break the line unless he is going through a large gap. An extra bit of acceleration would make a huge difference in attack if it is possible to obtain any gains through training in that area.

As for passing skills we haven’t really seen much of that from him this season, but I remember he was creating overlaps and passing in plays with Moylan last season. He also puts in the occasional kick.

I think, with Maloney in 6 and Edwards at the back, we are much better balanced overall, assuming Maloney keeps up the form he showed last week.

I thought Moylan was decent last night, really the only one who looked dangerous.

He just doesn’t play straight enough on his sweep plays IMO. Was exactly the same with us.

I think it is largely due to the fact that he grew up playing touch football and ended up playing touch football at a high level.

His touch footballing heritage is really evident in his style of play. In touch you have to be good at timing passes - silky well time passes to put running players into gaps is the best skill you can have in touch football.

It is also a great skill to have in the NRL, but you also need physicality in the NRL which Moylan lacks.

Furthermore in touch football the defence is pretty much always back peddling (play the balls are always quick). So Moylan doesn’t have good instincts about what to do when the line is advancing on him.

He also doesn’t have a kicking game.

I have stayed out of the Moylan v Maloney debate until now but have long harboured doubts about Moylan. I was in truth quietly optimistic about our attack improving when he left.

I don't think this is about Moylan Vs Maloney though I rate them both highly so maybe it's just me.

We've seen Moylan get absolutely smashed, get up and keep playing on as is.

I love Moylan, I’ve lost a fair bit of respect for him, but I think he’s a jet. But, he is soft and doesn’t like doing the hard stuff. He becomes gun shy every time he gets hit hard, last night was just another example, He’s too soft to ever make it as a gun FB. I think he’ll develop into an excellent 6.
