Former Panthers in the NRL

Thats a good question, especially considering he ended up in reserve grade anyway at the Titans.

Maybe the rumours of threats and harrasment were more than just rumours and he did need to move out of the area.
The rumours of threats were real. Plenty of reasons for him to leave. Would love to see him return on minimum wage and resurrect his career. Sorry not minimum wage as apparently we donf do that. But a modest contract for a guy who is a risk.

That’s unstanable wanting to leave then, given a new baby and partner to worry about as well.

Re him returning, I agree. Especially since we have now lost Peachey as well. We really needed to keep one of them.

Would love to have Cartwright coming on as a ball playing lock/2nd rower, to spell JFH and Kikau, and be the in game injury cover in case one of our halves goes off injured. If he is fit and focused like the article says, he offers far more impact than May does.

While that article is good.. It begs the question why couldn't he of stayed and Gus worked with him here?

A year off footy or playing lower grades with mates would of done him the world of good

He was receiving death threats and having his house vandalized here. That is true for sure.

so why would they not continue up there? why not when he came back down here? So maybe a break away from the spotlight would of helped instead of releasing him.

Threats might continue. But being so far away from Penrith there's less to fear about someone being able to act on them or for them to be able to do anything to his house. Ontop of them needing to find out exactly where he's living now.

It's not an uncommon reason for people to move. It doesn't guarantee anything will be fixed. But staying put sure isnt going to fix it. Whether he's playing NRL or not.

I don't doubt he wanted to go. We have cap issues now. How bad would we be if he stayed? So we probably wouldn't of tried to hard to find another way around it

Btw if anyone wants a laugh go to the Sharks page, look under the salary cap drama thread. An insider reckons they're fried. No money, no Flanagan, redundancies, NRL won't bail them out. Posted it before the DT article today

Seriously?? Do you think his ex and her friends/family are going to travel to the goldy to threaten him? It wasn't just social media threats, they were going to his house were his newborn and missus was living.

He had multiple blow ups with Flanno, Including one which ended with him saying “I can’t work like this any longer”.

That’s pretty clear dude.

Money was definitely a factor though, he was talking about it publicly that entire season. I daresay if he was getting paid what he wanted he would've copped flanno.
It's a very nice thing for Gus to do but he shouldn't be helping opposition players

Sorry but that is really silly, he isn't just any former player for one thing and if even if his family werent so important to the clubs history if he had problems that have continued since he left the club I don't think we should just wash our hands of him. Im not saying we have to remain responsible but if Gus is willing and able to help him then by all means do so.

I have no idea. I have never death threatened someone before. Isn't this why they have witness protection so those who want you dead can't find you?

Witness protection lol wtf he was going through a bad break up with a girl he cheated on who was getting her friends or family to harass him. If you cant see how getting out of Penrith and into another state would help ease that situation for himself, his missus and their baby then I cant help you mate, its self explanatory.

anyone still thinking cronulla can finish above us lmao

Cronulla ended our year in all 3 grades. And they are a massive bogey team for us at NRL level.

Fifita always plays out of his skin against us, and guys like Moylan and Graham always seem to go up a gear against us. Scott f**king Sorenson dominated our whole team last year.

Their style of play is very effective against us, and all their old heads know how to grind out a win.

They may not finish above us on the ladder next year, but head to head I'd back them against us 9 times out of 10.

Its hard to say how these financial woes will effect the team. Flanno is pretty good at backs to the wall style coaching so you never know. They are going to lose support staff though, any good coaches will getr picked off for sure.
