The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

They call Queenslanders "hillbillies", yet most of Sydney's clubs play out of glorified parks that aren't fully seated. Queensland's clubs play out of fully seated stadia. Even Dolphin Oval is more modern despite being built for a Queensland Cup club!
Reckon they should end all this rubbish and let QLD just have their own QRL competition. 4 QLD clubs can play each other twice in their shiny stadiums and believe they are the best ever.

I think most in Sydney would be comfortable to never have to think about them again

Essendon, Hawthorne, Carlton, St Kilda, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Footscray and Collingwood do alright playing out of two centralised stadia. There's nothing special about Melbourne that prevents Sydney's RL clubs from doing it.

Sydney's clubs would go bust if they didn't get an annual grant of $15m. There's no way they'll ever be able to build a stadium that resembles Lang Park, Parramatta Stadium or the SFS.

Whilst I agree with your overall sentiment I think scheduling and where the teams have been put prevent using just two stadia exactly like Melbourne

That doesn’t mean however games amongst Sydney teams shouldn’t be played at the major stadia. Games at Canberra, Newcastle and Cowboys could be played at the suburban grounds if they want

There's no reason Manly cannot share its games between SFS and Central Coast Stadium. That would actually help them grow their fanbase and provide the Central Coast with a team.

Cronulla-Sutherland could play out of the SFS. If Sydney FC have fans from Sutherland who make the journey to the SFS then there's nothing stopping Shark fans from doing it.

South Sydney should be based at SFS. Bulldogs and Tigers should be based out of Parramatta Stadium.

Souths moving to Allianz makes geographical sense but not sure it’ll happen. Of course Souths got offered good money to go to Homebush but more importantly, they identified a chunk of fans living out west that actually pay money to go to games. I’m guessing the majority of their members live out there too. I don’t see them abandoning those fans anytime soon. Souths playing it smart with their recent stadium whinge. Watch them get more money out of Accor. Well played.

Tigers built a 100 million dollar performance center.

Go look at a map Melbourne

AFL Melbourne clubs are more closely bunched together compared to the Sydney NRL teams.

If Newtown, Norths were still in the NRL, along with stand alone Balmain, then all three could play their home matches at Allianz. Those three, plus Souths and Roosters are close around the stadium.

Whereas grounds like Brookvale and Shark Park are a bit further away.

I just wonder during the Super League debacle, did Norths ever entertained the idea of moving to the old SFS?

In my opinion the whole Australian practice of sporting teams expecting the taxpayer to fully fund venues needs to end. The AFL is much worse than the NRL in that regard. Clubs like the Tigers etc need to ditch the archaic leagues club ownership model and get proper private capital into the club.

It's a shame that this proposal for Souths to build their own stadium never happened:

It is not something restricted to Australian sports. Have a look, for example, at the NFL in the US. Clubs have turn over in the hundreds of millions of dollars a yerrar, yet many play at stadiums either partially or totally funded by Government.

North Sydney want to field a team in the NRL that's just called "The Bears" and play up to four games at North Sydney Oval, none at the SFS and the rest at Perth Oval.

Melbourne's AwFuL clubs have citywide support.

Sydney's NRL clubs have fans spread out all over the city. A centralised stadium would allow them all to attend.

I know Melbourne teams are more centrally located and there are better transport links. That doesn’t mean that some of their games can’t be played at these big games.

Yes it does. All Sydney outsiders proposing something which locals telling you won't work. Open ur ears

What is it about you & missing the point?!
What was your point?

You spoke about a map of Melbourne and CoE for the Tigers.

I don't buy your claim that Sydney's terrain and transport system is too chaotic and disperse to have centralised stadia.

Brisbane has worse traffic than Sydney, yet I don't see anyone on here demanding we have four or five teams spread across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Redlands to cover everyone so they don't get bottlenecked going into Lang Park. The Dolphins are based 34km away from Lang Park, yet they're playing most of their games there.

The only team that needs a ground of its own is Penrith.

Bulldogs and Tigers can play out of Parramatta Stadium. South Sydney, Cronulla, St George and Manly can play out of the SFS.

Sydney doesn't need any more stadia and doesn't deserve any more upgrades to suburban parks if teams won't make use of the two that were just built for them.

I agree that the Tigers should nominate CommBank as their one home ground for the time being but each team should be striving for their own all-seated home ground. If the Super League can do it why can't we. Sick of being compared to the AFL just because it's in the same country, we should be drawing inspiration from international best practice not the most lopsided, comical sport in the world.
