Could easily work.

Waratahs - SCG (they don't want to go west anyway)

Roosters - Central Coast, Adelaide & SCG

Sydney FC - likely a roving commission between Kogarah, Cronulla, Leichhardt, NSO

And the western Sydney teams will have the new parramatta stadium, no need to go to spotless.

Yeah I don't see the problem really. The only drama would be the lack of a large rectangular stadium in Sydney for Origins, semis, Kangaroos and Wallabies matches. However the SCG could sub in for a few years.

The ARU, NRL and FFA may just take the event games (grand final, Wallabies, Kangaroos, Socceroos) other cities during that period. The only difficulty with that would be the NSW State of Origin team as they deserve home games. This is where the SCG could step in, could be a nice novelty even if it terrible for viewing the game.

Yeah, if it's only for a year or two I don't see the problem. 99% of people are watching it on telly anyway.

Might be spreading ourselves a bit thin. The club is already making strong moves into Bathurst & surrounds.

The Bathurst stuff is great, but basic return-on-investment would say the million people immediately south are more likely to fill up your stadium than the 30k people 4hours away...

Tigers seem to have put as much into the Sw as they ever will, so there is obviously room for anothe team. With the infristructure for Badgery creek linking the Sw and Nw, moving people to a Penrith game would be a piece of piss.

I still think its a shame Wests and Panthers didnt merge after Super League; it would have united everything west of Parra. But its not too late for Panthers to make moves for fans in the SW and become the real Western Sydney team...

Fair point.

With the new transport infrastructure that'll accompany the airport it would work better.

Tigers are a funny one. To me they're just spread way too thin at the moment & it's just not clear where their home is, and what area they represent. I don't think their current model will ever work.

Radical idea? De merge. Western Suburbs Magpies based out of Campbelltown.

Tigers brand moves to another city.

SFS is a bit meh. Just give it a good roof (its just funny how scared the gov is of thw Trust). As long as Parra and ANZ are done right, im not worried about the rest...

Im super interested in this outer Western sydney stadium they reference though. That could end up in any of a few location (penrith, campbeltown, blacktown, liverpool).

It will be interesting to see how the Nrl clubs lobby for this. Each will obviously say their own homeground is best (we might even get manly/sharks/saints lobbying for north/south sydney stadiums instead). But if 2 or 3 clubs can cone together and promise multiple tennants, they will just to the front of the line; it just depends on whether the clubs can compromise....

This Government is "scared" of the SCG Trust because of the people who are on it, who have a lot of clout in political/business/media circles. The Trustees are:

  • Tony Sheppard (Chair);
  • Rod McGeogh (Deputy Chair);
  • Richard Colless;
  • David Gilbert;
  • Ron Graham;
  • Nihal Gupta;
  • John Hartigan;
  • Alan Jones;
  • Lyn Larsen;
  • Stuart MacGill;
  • Maurice Newman;
  • Barry O'Farrell;
  • Katie Page;
  • Phil Waugh;
  • Steve Waugh.
Notice how there is not really one person you would decsribe as a "rugby league person" on that list but multiple RU and AFL types, let alone cricket types (though the cricket one I can understand).

Classic example how we are always schooled on political and business influence...

Not saying this because I'm a panthers fan, but dollars to donuts it ends up in Penrith.

It's a swing seat, so is the blue mountains (to a lesser degree)

Only other western Sydney team that needs a stadium (if ANZ gets done) is tigers

Liverpool might make sense if the Tigers & dogs used it but that would take tenants away from ANZ. Can't see the govt wanting to do that.

I reckon the Parra stadium should've been built in Blacktown though, Penrith & Parra could've both used it.

There is one RL person, Katie Page. She's on the commission.

But I agree that's not enough.

In terms of being scared of them, that is a factor. But it's just as much about their connections & what they can do for politicians post politics.

SCG trust will get something, so will ANZ.

One big factor that hurt the SCG trust getting their 65k seat stadium? Malcolm Turnbull. Residents of the east lobbied him hard, and no matter the connections the trust had they couldn't overcome that & the lobbying of the NRL clubs for ANZ.

This is why i think Campbeltown is a live option for Panthers...

Tigers hold Campbeltown at arms length (or a lot of fans think that) and its hard shake that image without committing entirely to the area (which they arent likely to do.

Even if Panthers cant become the regions primary team, there is still a lot to be gained in being second. And i think there is fertile ground to achieve this.

Unless a few teams come together and offer a bunch of games, i think youre probably right.

Shame Blacktown didnt get in ahea of Parra; transport to the area will be great with the new airport and you could reasonably have 4 teams as tennants (panthers, tigers, eels, rabbits/dogs might even be interested)

But all things staying the same (all teams playing where they are now), i think youre right about Penrith getting the upgrade...

With a touch of Campbelltown now.

I mean Wests were the ones who originally moved there. It's too spread out for me, lacks focus.

They are trying to please all of their factions instead of thinking what is best for the club itself...

If they arent willin to go fulltime in Campbeltown/liverpool, they should be looking to move to anz/parra.

The current patchwork is just unsustainable...

Govt crapped on about wanting multiple tenants then put it right next to Parramatta leagues club. Of course other NRL teams would baulk at that.

It doesn't even need to be full time. Just their main base would be a good start.

Play 8 at Campbelltown

2 blockbusters at ANZ

And say Manly & Roosters at Leichhardt

At least that way they'd have a clear home base & the people of Campbelltown would know where they stand.

Im curious where most of Tigers fans actually live these days. In a Tigers facebook group yesterday someone asked posted a where are you from question. A few thousand responses from all over regional NSW and QLD and only a dozen from Sydney. I hope the supporter base that still lives in Syd-nee are planning to stay or we are screwed.

From my own observations (whatever that's worth): the lion's share are based in the Leichhardt/Ashfield/Inner West area and then spread more sparsely from there through the Ryde/Carlingford area and into the Hills.
Campbelltown/MacArthur is 50/50 at best; there are a lot of fans of other clubs in the region.
Thanks to Benji/2005/2010-11 there are quite a few younger fans spread all over the state too.
