Maybe, but who would be going to build it? Sydney City Council have neither the finances nor the political inclination to (and they don't own the land), whilst the NSW Government would be unwilling to stump up the money for a new stadium which, relatively speaking, is not that far from the SCG and the SFS.
yeah - basically the same distance from the CBD as Moore Park - just on the other side
plus the failure to get greyhound racing banned - though assume they will eventually sell it off like Harold Park trots

I said nothing of the sort

I said the gabba project could be altered &
nothing has changed with that possibility ...... we see a doubling or more of the budget for the olympics like the comm games has seen

watch for alterations starting with the gabba
Sure ignore the qld pm

anybody that really believes the budget blew out from 1.5 billion to over 7 billion has rocks in their heads

The Victorian media has cottoned-on to the fact that Melbourne is missing out on the top Women's World Cup games due to lack of suitable stadiums.

This was always going to be a blow to their perceived self-importance.
Yep, just six games. Melbourne hosts two round of 16 games. No QF's or SF's. And obviously no final. AAMI Park isn’t big enough for matches towards the end of the tournament, while the other major venues in the city are oval, filled with Fumbleball.

The sporting capital.....

Canterbury is looking towards a new 45,000 seat stadium in Liverpool as part of a big project. Article was written earlier this year.

That’s a new one, very ambitious. I wonder if the Tigers are listening.

qld have a pm ?
since when lol

& it'll blow out , nothing surer

FYI - Before Federation in 1901, many of the 'Chief Ministers" in many of the Australian colonies were actually referred to as the "Prime Minister" and not "Premier" during the 19th century.

What is now the tram lines and freight rail lines nearby would preclude such a big build on the site.
You’d have to stay within the footprint of the existing dog track, though that would still allow for a pretty big stadium. Anything that involved reducing the surrounding public parkland would get massive public opposition.
If the suggestion was in addition to the dog track, not gonna happen, not enough space and what there is is public parkland. The dogs would have to go for anything to be built there and as Moore park got upgraded that won’t happen in the next 40 years.

Lol I doubt that means Canterbury Leagues have half a billion in the bank - they’ll be financing the project and recouping the loan via residential sales and probably still be left with some debt but also with an asset that will generate a ton of revenue.

what’s the bet the Tigers still won’t show any interest in using it though and stick with their two suburban dumps strategy lol

I’ve always thought Wentworth Park to the west of Pyrmont would have been a great location for an 80k rectangular stadium. Trams in and out from the North, South, East and West.
yeh any city with sense would have built a centralised stadium there not at Moore park. right on the doorstep of china town and darling harbour, train line running past it. but hey its Sydney.

I’m guessing the SCG Trust was the fly in the ointment there. It’s stacked full of very influential people who make sure the premier inner city stadiums stay on their patch.

Wentworth park is only served by the dulwich hill light rail which is already stretched to capacity at most times. Would need a second light rail line running down Wattle or Harris Street direct to central and maybe a stop on the future West Metro line.

Perth and Adelaide are absent from the business end also.

Perth doesn't even get a Round of 16 game. Total shame job for these cities not providing adequate facilities for world class tournaments.
