There just isn't going to be any significant away supporters travel to Port Moresby, well not enough to bother catering for to any great extent anyway.

Given that there is limited flights there and back, and you need to apply for a visa before you go would deter the vast majority of people.

Not to mention the small issue of rampant crime and corrupt officials.

The travel side of it isn’t too much of a drama, I’ve been there on holiday. But we flew into Port Moresby and walked straight to the domestic terminal and jumped ontoan internal flight to Kavieng so I didn’t see the city.
The crime part is the big issue. Even the airport gives you seriously sketchy vibes.

you’d get diehard fans travelling for away games but only if they could be packaged safely, and that would be much easier to facilitate if you had a hotel/resort to complex handy to the ground.

Yeh pretty much this, they could fill in the corners and maybe put another tier on one of the sidelines. Should be a relatively cheap (by stadium standards) way to get it to 25k+.

Alternatively there is Sir Hubert Murray stadium, still half under construction from what I can tell but has a higher listed capacity. Looks like Vipers play there in Digicel cup.

would actually make good sense to attach a hotel complex to the ground so away fans could have a way of attending games with less security concerns, as well as for somewhere for visiting teams and officials to stay

Safety would have to be the main part of the bid, Can't have anyone being assaulted over a sport

There isn't going to be anywhere enough demand or financial reward for such a setup.

It would be the ultimate in rich Westerner hubris for cashed up bogans to have a purpose built resort in the middle of Port Moresby just so they can watch the Roosters play footy.

Yeah I agree. But if they were building accomodation facilities for players and officials as part of the complex anyway it would make logical sense to add commercial hotel facilities to it. Might as well have something that can be used when there’s no footy on and there’s a demand from business travellers.

This is the most stupid, brain dead idea for expansion that the NRL has ever come up with, let alone the Fed Govt pouring $600 million of our taxpayers money into it.
Just bring in Perth or NZ II instead. Now!

This would be where I'd base them. Basically, the closer you are to the waterfront and beach, the safer you are in Port Moresby. You have to remember there are civil servants, doctors, government officials etc and this is where they tendcto live. This site is a stone's throw from the American Embassy.

From what I’ve read it was in the process of being fully redeveloped into a 25K dedicated football stadium a few years back but wasn’t finished because they missed the cutoff for the pacific games- so that construction process could probably be completed.

Think I read construction has restarted ?
