I am sure the 50 people that watch A League there move the needle.

Again though you have 2 hotels across the road
Train
Bus
Major road access
Light rail connecting to a 10min train trip

Location plays a big part too but without Tigers getting involved too there was zero chance of a new site being used
Penriths crowds pre covid were 12k.

some of us have been blessed with new stadia

some haven’t

Also has Wests Leagues right next door and is in the middle of a major growth area.
Compared to Leichhardt, ticked in the corner of a gentrified suburb, no leagues club, f**k-all parking, 15 minute walk to the light rail, congested local roads. Leichhardt is a dead end, should just be kept as a community sport venue.
Wests don’t own that leagues club

Leichhardt was the home of high school rugby league through the 70s and 80s. It’s got some merit as an important historic ground for RL. The NRL should indeed buy it.
Thats not a bad idea.... NRL could buy it, refurbish it, ad hold regular games for NRLW and tigers games there, along with a multiplex car park, then theres a case for them to stay there, otherwise campbelltown should be the priority

Yep. Could of got some land between Panthers and Wests Leagues and put a Stadium there, Sure it is further for those in the North West but they are inbetween CommBank there anyway

Solves the Tigers issue, Gets the area a completed Stadium like it should have. The growth area builds around it.

Isn’t it council owned? They’re probably not selling.

The NRL buying LO would be one of the worst ideas in NRL history.

So I fully expect it to happen.

Not sure legally how would even work, anyway

why? It is an okay idea. An average idea.
It is a radical take to claim it is one of the worst ideas in NRL history. Like I am sure you have done a full analysis since the idea was floated all of 15 minutes ago.

V’landys pushed the Liverpool idea for Bulldogs and Tigers a few years back. Bulldogs are wanting & going for a huge development featuring a 45k stadium on their land there. Tigers wanted Liverpool council to build a 20k stadium there instead. By buying the Bulldogs’ land from memory.

So seems both clubs and the NRL see the benefit of having a stadium there. It’d be good if they could get on the same page to get a 30-40k stadium built there that they can both share.

It's a complete dump with no redeeming value.

It would require at least $500M+ investment to make it a 20,000 seat modern stadium.

I would doubt any board undertaking its fiduciary duty would recommend the buying of Leichhardt Oval. The ROI would be laughable. They would never be allowed to flog it off to developers down the track either. Better off sticking to hotel investments that actually make money and invest in grassroots.

And you could probably get the same result at Campbelltown for 1/3 of the spend. LO would be a logistical nightmare to do major redevelopment on.

Allianz six games v big Sydney clubs, Campbelltown six games against out of town and lessor sydney clubs.that is what would make the most commercial Sense for tigers.

It’s a community sports facility. I doubt the community would be too happy with it being locked up as private property.
Paul kent just mentioned on nrl360 tonight that he had spoken to Peter V'landys and that if the council offered it the NRL would buy it and use it as another assett

Says karenard from fumbleland f**kwiton, whos probably never been to liechardt oval in his lifetime...
Its run down yes, but a refurbishment could be what make it reedeming and also no one is saying play 12 home games there... its at best 3 with the rest either at allianz, commbank, campbelltown or Accor
