The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

To be honest, you’re wrong.

This isn’t just about the NRL either, ANZ has a multitude of events.

And Allianz Stadium is the only venue in NSW & QLD that has 3 permanent tenants.

And Townsville is getting a new stadium FFS, shows how little understanding you bring to this.

Also add in it is the NSW Government footing the bill. They are not going to pay for stadium upgrades outside NSW either (as I'm sure you would have pointed out).

Why demolish the Olympic Stadium when its full its an awesome place to watch a game, sure it’s not as good as a rectangular stadium and you are a bit further away from the action, if you are going to spend money why not spend it on surbuban grounds like Kograh, Shark Park, Brookie, Leichhardt

It’s a horrible place to watch sport. It’s being demolished because it is not a world class stadium for world class sports. Spending money on suburban grounds is not going to grow rugby league, as much as I love Leichhardt. Sure, upgrade their facilities but the future of rugby league is not in suburban grounds.

In terms of Shark Park, why should government money be spent on a privately owned facility which has only 1 major user, namely its owner?

As to Kogarah, Brookvale, Leichhardt and Penrith, those ground are owned by the respective local councils. They are the ones who are responsible for their upkeep, and in many cases are the bodies responsible for allowing them to fall into varying stages of disrepair. Should the NSW Government have to fund them because their owners are too stingy?

I can see the Government's point on this side of it.

I think in time we’ll probably see another stadium in the outer west, might take a little longer given the outrage over this spend. Something around badgerys creek, tigers and the panthers could use it.

Best hope for the sharks is likely this Aleague proposal, but even then it seems a long shot. Someone should lobby the federal govt to see if they’d contribute to it.

Just becauuse it's privately owned doesn't mean it can't be given funding to improve facilities, the people of the Shire are tax payers as well..

On the edge of the CBD across a walk bridge?

I thought it was in Burswood.

Is this it?

Across from WACA and Gloucester Park, which is a decent walk from the CBD or bus/train ride?

Homebush is totally central to all of Sydney. They just need to build a casino and other nightlife around it. And with all the housing developments going in, couldn't be too far away.

I stand corrected. My memory of all those years ago has obviously gotten a bit rusty :)
No worries.
Its not like afl didnt throw money at it to f**k NRL over. Just threw it at someone else not the government itself.
i recall Cameroon winning gold in the Soccer final played at the Olympic stadium

are you saying Soccer isn't a rectangular sport?

You mean where you can clearly see the edge of the ground where the fake grass is going over it?

In some places that is what they call "crony capitalism". Public moneys used to fund improvements for private facilities which ultimately financially benefit the owner of that facility. It's not about it being about the Sharks, the Roosters or Newcastle (for example) it is the principle of the matter.

No wonder all you have is insults. You dont have anything else.

Re the decision to keep ANZ an oval.

Whilst the ultimate responsibility rested with stadium Australia group the government could have stepped in to influence them. The stadium was always meant to revert to govt ownership after 30 years.

But they werent owned by the government then, and the government had no say. The only way they could have stepped in, was to buy out the lease like they did 2 years ago or to throw in more money than the AFL & Cricket did.
Which if you are blaming the government for that, then why not blame the NRL for not throwing money at SAG. God knows this place loves to blame Gallop for alot of stuff already. :p

I notice the new Perth stadium wasn't built in the CBD.

Should have been built over the WACA and trotting ground sites at east end of the city but politics with cricket and I reckon some greasing by Crown has seen it just on the outskirts of city centre.
Direct one stop 5min train ride from city station or a walk over the fancy footbridge from the east perth pubs and cafes and Crown resort with bars and restaurant options next door so not too far away from drinks and food options. They are also building a brewery on site as part of the stadium development.

Its a shame they didn't build a 35k rectangular stadium on the site as well to get all year round use of the facilities.

I guess if the Govt was keen they could offer to buy a long term lease on those stadiums. WA Govt did that with NIB. Bought a 100 year lease from the Local Government for $25mill in order to be able to spend $100mill State money upgrading it.

Should have had the foresight to build the convention centre at Burswood and the stadium where the convention centre is.
