I didnt pick it at the time, but I have to say taht the Libs were clever to announce the stadiums when they did before Xmas...

All the fire has gone out of the protest and you can see from this article that it will be hard to get back. I think the rebuilds will be pretty safe.
Do yourself a favour and scroll right past this link, do not click, and forget the wannabe pirate ever existed.

I have ceased clicking on Bandanahead's articles in the Herald. He feels no doubt every click, represents tacit support for his views.
I am just about anti everything he goes on about in his commentary, be it in print or the electronic media. He sh*ts me,his views ditto.
If there is only one thing I like about him, it's that he keeps some publishing company in business.

He's like an annoying blow fly at a BBQ ,that continually aims for your T bone, and leaves everyone else's food alone.

If there is weight to this, the NRL should at the very least be throwing some support behind the scenes hinting that a South West Brisbane NRL team could offer more use to the stadium. Also look at offering test matches, all stars etc to sweeten the deal.

Going to be a hard sell without much content so you'd imagine Roar, Reds and potential new NRL and A-League teams would have to play some games there to make it worthwhile.

Best case scenario:
  1. 25k stadium built in SW Brisbane in 5-10 years.
  2. Suncorp is developed in to a 60k stadium with intimate mode enabled in 10-15 years.
I like the cut of your jib mate, but I don’t think Suncorp can increase up to 60k hey. Or to do it, you’d be looking at a signifigant cost.

Admittedly I am no architect but the only place where there’s some space is the corners up high but that is where the roof trusses go into the main supports, I don’t think you could put seats in there without major works or having to raise the roof.

Some degenerate had a wank in a red hanky, took a shit and wiped their arse with the same red hanky. I'll spare you the boring scientific explanation of how it occurred but nevertheless we have Peter so it happened.

You’re right, current configuration the stadium can’t increase in height, due to supporting beams for the roof.

May have something to do with the western stand which was built in the mid-90’s and kept during the early 2000’s renovation of the ground

Yeah, 1995 I think it re-opened with that weatern stand re-developed and obviously they needed to include it in the 03 version to keep the costs down and just pretty much copied its footprint and extended it around the rest of the stadium for continuity. It’s a shame they didn’t make the other 3 sides just that little bit bigger and get the capacity up to 60k.

The other problem is Castlemaine and Hale Street being right next to the stadium. Pretty hard to extend the ground over the roads.

Still a great stadium though. The only probelm I’ve ever had is in the eastern side and you want to exit to Caxton st to get on the gas you need to go down to the lower level of the stadium before exiting and use the stadium internally to get up to that northern end if you wantto get there quickly. If you leave the stadium and go on the Eastern side, the walkway is barely 8m wide and is ridiculous when people are coming the other way, it’s like a f**king cattle run.

Makes for good banter when the Cowboys win though, jawwing off and singing in a crowd........

The question I ask.Was he in fact born, or just the result of a scientific experiment gone extremely wrong? Surely parents should be spared such an atrocity!!!!
and it's criminal that the botched lab experiment was allowed to reproduce

Brisbane boutique stadium push gathers steam

Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi has welcomed a push for a new boutique stadium in the city, which could form part of Australia's bid to host the 2023 Women's World Cup.

And Queensland's Commonwealth Games minister Kate Jones says there is a clear economic case for investment in sporting infrastructure.

Roar managing director David Pourre has seized on FFA's bid as an opportunity to lobby for an alternative rectangular venue to compliment Suncorp Stadium, where they currently play home games.

A-League chiefs are encouraging the Roar to find another ground with the 52,500-seat Suncorp oversized for many of their fixtures but there is nowhere else in Brisbane up to standard for professional sport.

Aloisi said a more intimate venue would be a boon for the code and city.

"We've seen down in Melbourne what AAMI Park has done for Victory and City and it's great to have those boutique stadiums ... you get a good crowd in and the atmosphere can be second to none," he said.

The two obvious options are an upgrade of Ballymore Stadium or a rebuild of Perry Park.

It's understood FFA had already been in discussion with the Queensland Rugby Union over redevelopment options at Ballymore, where the Roar currently train and A-League expansion hopefuls Brisbane City intend to play their games.

The QRU has been seeking a solution to Ballymore, which seats 18,000 but is in a state of disrepair, for more than a decade.

"I'm sure if they've got the money they can fix anything," Aloisi said.

A new venue may actually prove to be a necessity if Brisbane is to be involved in hosting a Women's World Cup.

The Brisbane Broncos, Queensland Reds and State of Origin are all usually booked at Suncorp in June, when the tournament would be held and there is nowhere else suitable to stage those matches.

There are also doubts over Suncorp's capacity to host NRL or A-League expansion sides with the stadium's event calendar nearly full.

Any new stadium would require state or federal funding.

"I think that's a question that the sports minister has a view on but we know that investing in sporting infrastructure does drive investment and economic activity," Ms Jones told AAP.

I had a feeling that might have been the case which is a shame. I wonder what the costs involved would be to upgrade it again, seems a little short sighted now.

corrupt pollies have given that to the AFL

Yes it was terrible how they parachuted a spingfield land board member into lions and happened to come up with this proposal. He has now left because of conflict of interest. That Springfield deal is waiting on state funding still though. Maybe if the federal/state/council all double there money a oval and rectangle stadiums can be built on the land?

A train line that joins Ipswich to Springfield needs to happen ASAP though

I can see Brisbane/QLD developing some stadium envy starting soon. Assuming the stadiums in Sydney all go ahead they have a couple legitimate challengers for best rectangular ground in Australia plus Parra which provides a smaller option. Add that to the fact that out of the 5 big capital cities Brisbane now has the smallest Stadium.

You just know the AFL will try and f**k anything that comes along though

"Any new mid-sized stadium in Brisbane needs to be oval for the raging success of WAFL"

And/or

"Suncorp is fine, the GABBA needs a major overhaul because of the minor success of Big Bash and mainly the major succes of WAFL".

And/Or

"We demand Suncorp Oval cus waffle."
