I dont think Penrith needs a new stadium maybe an upgrade which wouldnt be too hard to do with its current configuration,
what Penrith should do is buy the stadium and upgrade it themselves, they have enough money

Best thing for Penrith would be a gradual upgrade over next 10-20 years. Similar to Newcastle and nib. Build a really decent main stand as a start - $75mill for 12,000 undercover seats, then next sort out one end with a $30mill end stand etc. It will take time but would transform it. Main stumbling block would be their current crowd avg, its hard to make a case when your only pulling 12-14k for most games and your capacity is around 19k. Ownership is the other issue. Local council could vest ownership with a long term lease to State Govt but given how your likely next Govt is feeling about stadiums that isnt going to happen for at least another 5 years. Penrith, Manly, and Cronulla (and Dragons) are all stuck in this scenario sadly for them and the game,

Penrith has one advantage over the other places, it’s a marginal seat both at state & federal level.

So if any of those grounds are going to get some upgrades, it’ll be Penrith.

Penrith's doesn't need to buy the stadium, the way the place is leased to them they practically own it anyway.

IF they were going to redevelop it they would want it on their asset listings, but its highly unlikely they would ever have that sort of cash available and it wouldn't generate enough revenue to pay back borrowing to do it.

The way to get it done might be for the club to make a sizeable contribution to the costs. Similar to the cowboys $10m contribution, but I dare say we could tip in more on a lower cost build.

Say the club put in $20m, could entice the federal & state govts to come up with some money.

Another way to entice money might be to make it the Sydney HQ of the Matilda’s. Penrith has hosted them a couple of times, both good crowds. Panthers could perhaps enter into a partnership with them to share facilities.

As you suggested, you’d do it in stages.

Western stand first $75m

Then I’d do a new Eastern stand, build up the southern stand as a better hill. Not perfect, but the money would be better going into the east & west stands. Similar to Newcastle.

If nib is anything to go by around $70-80mill will get you 11k seats undercover with new food, retail and toilet outlets plus some open air boxes and a members bar in a main stand and around 5k in an uncovered end stand

$60-70mill gets you one of these
nibstadium1.jpg

$10mill gets you one of these (it is built to take a roof at some future time!)

Australia are the favourites to host the next women's World Cup so them building greater infrastructure where they play their games isn't completely far fetched. Also it'd show a massive endorsement of women's sports if they used that as a reason. Probably would get less scrutiny if they played the 'this is also for women' card.

It is flavour of the month for justifying taxpayer expense so why not. A centre of excellence as part of it for womens soccer and RL and the stadium as maion womens sport stadium in NSW

Yeah another idea might be to have it as the home ground for the women’s WSW team. Obviously there’s not big crowds there, but you just need to get content at the ground. More content will give the politicians more cover for the expenditure. Currently they play at Marconi Oval.

The thing is the Matilda’s actually draw really good crowds at Penrith. Forget Sydney home base, make it their Aussie home base.

Always thought it was odd how few games the Wanderers have taken to Penrith. Would’ve been much better than spotless.

At the time the Wanderers had to make a decision, the club put out a poll to members to choose either Campbelltown, Penrith or Sydney Olympic Park. The club announced SOP as the preferred option of fans, but I'm still a little dubious about this.
I believe it was the clubs decision to play at Homebush because it has far better corporate facilities and both ANZ and Spotless are all seaters. The Wanderers at the time had 20000 members and I believe the club felt that their members would be better served with the far superior facilities at Homebush.
It certainly hasn't gone down well with fans considering both grounds are shit for rectangular sports.

You have an amazing ability to speak in non specific language. Ie “that’s the economic reality”

What do you mean by this?

More service points at BankWest stadium will result in quicker service than the previous stadium. More toilets for women will result in less time in queues.

Further, all the stadiums will actually receive improved transport options over the next decade.

BankWest - Light rail & a new metro rail line. Adding to the existing heavy rail line.

ANZ - Light rail & a new metro rail line. Adding to existing heavy rail.

Allianz - New light rail line.

Please address the issues in a specific manner if you want your criticism to be taken seriously.

When they have employ casual staff that can't pour beer, can't cook food and can't use a cash register they're going to end up with a lot of the same issues that exist now. I can't see a lot of those things changing. It will be too expensive to do anything else and they will take the cheapest staffing option.

The toilet situation should hopefully improve but that could have been improved in an existing stadium for a fraction of the cost.

The transport improvements will be nice but they still probably won't get outer suburb people to come in. They are time poor and it's not worth the hassle. And if they do come in they'll use their car. They HATE using public transport. They refuse to use it no matter how good it is. So there will still be traffic. If they bother to show up at all. This is Sydney.

It'll be nice for a year until the novelty wears off. Then cost cutting will be implemented. Toilets, Bars, Food shops all closed.

Mate, you haven’t researched this at all. You’re making all these presumptions based on understandings of existing stadiums.

Case in point.

The food at BankWest stadium.

They’re going to have what they’re calling a “food village”, this will be a totally different set up to existing stadiums. It will actually be outside the stadium in the concourse area and will utilise existing food truck businesses. Ie. experts in food prep & service.

You could’ve saved yourself from being wrong all the time by doing some simple research.

People in Sydney hate using public transport because it’s shit. We don’t know if they will use it if it’s good because it’s f**king shit.

Surely you have outlets with all the food ready, you grab it and go straight to the checkout. That won't happen with trendy food trucks. Never more than five minutes to get food or beer @ MCG whatever the crowd. AAMI is ordinary in this area.

They’re having both.

Point is the outside trucks will take pressure off the inside facilities.

"Totally different to the set-up at existing stadiums" - except it happens at ANZ for most major event matches too.

The stadium when proposed back in 2014 that was to be put in Penrith had the likes of us, Wanderers, sides like Cantebury and Tigers taking a NRL game here and there and it even had the Emus playing there. It was touted to have 40k capacity and be billed as a healthy alternative to ANZ stadium due to its location. The Wanderers have come out time and time again to boast about how 'massive' their base is in Penrith and the Blue Mountains so by their words this would have worked. I understand clubs have put forward guarantees to play games in Parramatta, I'm talking prior to the proposal. Obviously if it was located differently you wouldn't have Tigers putting forward a plan to play games in Parramatta haha.

If Penrith were smart they'd move games there? Lmao. Penrith has only ever moved one home game to ANZ stadium and that was in 2004 in a grand final rematch against the Roosters. A year after they won the comp. They got 22k to the game and never did it again. If they only took one game to a stadium 34 minutes away they wouldn't be 'smart to look to move some games' to a stadium that's 36 minutes away. The only reason besides it being because of the finals and them having to take a game there(gotta hit that empty seat quota dawg) would be because Gus said on twitter that it would increase our chances of getting a new stadium in Penrith sooner rather than later. But by the looks of what he said on Twitter a few hours ago and how state politics is shaping up it seems highly unlikely now that we'll get a stadium now regardless. It would more likely make NSW Labor go "sEE, hOmE GAmEs fORtY MInuTEs aWAy IsN'T tHat bAD".

Vastly different purposes? Bulldogs are moving games there, Tigers are moving games from ANZ to there, Souths will most likely move games soon. The purposes are the exact same. It's not like ANZ is for AFL and a few NRL clubs are finally gonna be able to play games in Sydney.

This whole stadium plan is complete garbage.
This whole post is garbage!
1. The Wanderers would not have taken games to Penrith, they played a grand total of zero in Penrith during the rebuild.

2. You claim that playing games at Parra is too far away from Penrith but also state that both the Bulldogs and Tigers would have played games in Penrith, not a chance mate.

3. Yes they should be used for vastly different purposes, ANZ should be used for SOO and Finals, Bankwest for club games. ANZ is too big for club games and should be an event stadium,

I live in Penrith and there is no justification for a stadium out here, if you had of argued for the Blacktown proposal I could have given you some credit but your posts reek of just wanting what is best for your club and stuff the realities of the situation.
