All you've done here is enforce your simplistic views on the way governments do their job and therefore your lack of understanding.

I don't see how. The Government has put a lot of work into that defence budget and I'm sticking up for it. You want it reduced based on a gut feeling.

So for some random political 'muahahaha' gotcha moment you want sporting organisations (i.e. clubs) to continue to suffer without their regular home ground facilities and potentially lose capital...

That's pretty shit
They are happy for me to lose capital.

It was an off-the-cuff example and the fact you want to traverse down that path shows that you're out of your depth on this stadium issue. Keep diggin!

Why make an off-the-cuff comment about a subject you don't know anything about?

The Government have budgeted for it, therefore it must be necessary- that's by your own logic.

The only thing I'm digging is you tying yourself in knots. Maybe stop tying knots and start climbing the rope to get out of the hole.

If you cared to read my logic, you'll note that while I don't agree with the level of defence spending, I accept it.

I'm still trying to establish why you think we should only ever fund necessities (school, hospital etc) and not look at places like stadia and event venues which are clearly investments that can deliver a long term ROI if done correctly - through added benefits such as tourism etc

I don’t think that. I think the ROI on this will be poor. It is not clear at all that this will be money well spent.

Why will the ROI be poor?

With a state of the art stadium, surely the city's ability to attract more and higher quality events is enhanced?

Not necessarily enough to justify the expenditure. Particularly when you already have stadia that can cater for the vast majority of events.

As I understand it, the SFS was a certainty to fail building checks in its existing state and therefore would not have been usable beyond the end of 2018.

Without significant works, that's a venue lost to not only the NRL, but the city for a range of events.

As for not necessarily enough to justify the expenditure - how do you know?

I call bs on it being unusable. They didn’t put in massive jumbo screens thinking the place would be shut down. And if they did, that’s a scandal in itself.

Even if you allow for that, I don’t believe in the expenditure on other stadiums Because:

A) there are very few events that wouldn’t already be held in Sydney. Every travelling show will stop here because it’s the biggest market in the country.

B) most of the events that will be held are home games for domestic sports clubs that are already being catered for with the current stadia.

C) The number of remaining things not covered in a) and b) are so limited that they probably don’t cover the cost. It’s probably 1 or 2 events a year. If that. And the appeal of the new stadium will quickly fade off- probably within less than 5 years.

My share of the $700m this will cost is $300. I support 2 other people. I don't see Roosters or Waratahs fans chipping in for upgrades at Panthers stadium.
I chip in for maintenance and upgrades to Penrith Stadium when I would rather not, but that is how taxes and rates etc work.

The Rooster 100% would be chipping in for maintenance costs at Panthers Stadium under your argument.

Yes. And another feature of the system is that we get to judge whether we think that (on balance) the expenditure has been prudent.

And here we are.

That reason you've dreamed you regarding the Jumbo screens is pure tosh.
