The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Giv the location of the new Townsville stadium surely it’s been designed with some degree of flood tolarance you’d think? I mean a metre or more of water through the ground level of a concrete stadium would create fair mess but not necessarily be something that would be any more than a serious cleanup operation.
I guess though the problem is that it’s half complete and th flooding is going to screw up construction in a huge way.

The grandstands are raised.

Lol, I didn’t mean they’re raised like a normal stadium. They’re built like a Queenslander house, with empty space below them.

@beave can probably expand on this.
They arent.

The concourse is raised but the lower bowl and the field and all the facilities at field level look like they are slightly below natural ground level. It isn’t very far above the creek level at the best of times. If Ross creek has broken its banks its probably done a bit of damage.

I guess it depends if they took the cheap option or the right option.

I haven't seen any images of it yet though.

Ok, my bad then. I thought I saw @beave alude to them being higher up.

Hopefully they have systems in place to deal with future flooding.

The Ipswich ratepayers must be happy their hard earned is going to fund a AFL base!

Since it is taxpayer funded the Ipswich Jets should get in on it and use it for training and maybe some games and try to get it converted to multi purpose. Presumably the Ipswich Jets have a womens team in the WQcup who can use it also. Could the womens Broncos train/play their games there?

Agreed it is BS. Ipswich's team is the Jets, always has been and always will be and they have nothing like this as a facility. If they had a shiny boutique 10k stadium like this, they could outdraw the Lions AFLW team from QLD Cup.

Why dont the Jets move there?

The Jets are ok where they are in terms of QLD Cup - if they were to get the NRL nod, then they would need something much bigger.

Other than that, an oval isn't the best configuration for RL. Let alone an oval that is plastered with AFL and Brisbane Lions logo. It would be a sad state of affairs when a RL team in SEQ is having to borrow an AFL ground to get a decent ground.

Point is it is tax payers, not Lions unless I am mistaken. From what I have seen it looks a lot better than the current field the Jets play at.
If I was the Jets I would be talking to the counsel and government about making some small changes (eg, no Lions advertisement or at least equal Jets advertisement) to the design and then have them and the Jets womens play there. And of course the Broncos women could train there.

I think you've hit it on the head when you say the Jets (and even NRL) should be talking to the Ipswich Council and not just sitting there letting AFL get a ground built for the AFLW team to play at that is better than anything the QLD Cup powerhouse has. They should be on the phone backed by the NRL seeking a boutique ground of their own in Ipswich that is also around 10k with the capacity for an upgrade to 25k should they end up in the NRL.

not without permission from the AFL since the council gave them the land for 20 years

the whole stadium area was raised by a fair amount mate, they were dumping dirt and compacting it for about 6 months before they started driving the pilings into the ground.

The club just released this story on the state of the new home

When did they give them that? Is it locked in?
I am guess it is a 20 year head lease thing, if it is locked in it would look pretty bad for the AFL to refuse other teams (especially womens teams) to play there given tax payer contributions.
If it is not locked in sneak in and outbid them for the head lease (NRL/QRL should help back this). At least drive their costs up.

It has been built up shitloads to be above the 100 year flood level.

Loads of houses and business's under water though, whole suburbs, hate to think of the cost of this one.....

Fat chance of that happening.
The AFL have history. They convinced councils in western Sydney to ban other sports playing or even entering sports fields that were once all sport inclusive.
I'm sure El D would remember and be able to find the pic with the sign that stated that.
