The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

You don’t need a $15million 10k seat stadium to train on. Maybe I should specify that the seats in the stadium and the catering facilities of the stadium will get limited use as opposed to a similar rectangular stadium where it’s seats and catering would have more potential to be used. It would generate more revenue, more visitors to the area and be more economical to Ipswich which in turn would create a proposal that would be better than what the AFL presented.

Good on the AFL for getting this through. The NRL/QRL should be following their play book too. Build the rectangular stadium next to the AFL stadium, create a big sporting complex in the one area. Makes sense.

and there is a lot of dodgyness about getting the ground and funding

https://www.qt.com.au/news/springfield-miss-out-lions/2178914/
Bob Sharpless, who was installed as chairman of the Lions by the AFL in the wake of last year's bitter board split, because of his position as deputy chairman of the Springfield Land Corp, says the fight is not over but accepts it is time to look for a "Plan B."

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-06...ed-environmental-concerns-for-stadium/5503778

The development was approved just as the co-owner of the site and most of the adjacent land, Springfield Land Corporation (SLC), gave a $10,000 donation to the re-election fund of Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale.

and Paul Pisasale is dodgy as f**k https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/na...-ccc-charges-court-hears-20180409-p4z8i2.html

You can’t even argue that ground in Ipswich would be multi-use since Cricket Queensland have spent a fortune on redeveloping Allan Border Field as a boutique cricket venue in SE Queensland.

Ross Dam in Tvl is about to have the gates fully opened (2 million litres a second) to try and protect the dam wall from the influx of water from today’s rain. All the suburbs along the Ross are being evacuated for the planned opening at 8:30pm. This will destroy thousands of homes. My heart breaks for everyone up there. I have a house up there that I love to bits. I’m praying it gets through this, FML.

I’d say both new and old stadiums will be cactus by tomorrow........

Any significant update beave?

hard to tell what’s going on because everyone has evacuated even the rescue mobs were told to leave. Even the media has done the bolt so until the morning comes, it’s all a bit unknown mate hey.

There’s been unconfirmed reports of people rescued from their rooftops though which means the water levels are at the predicted height in the lower areas along the river.

Those suggested lines seem so redundant to me.

CBD to South East duplicates the light rail they haven't finished yet.
CBD to South via Airport duplicates the existing T4 line.

Get the light rail all the way to Maroubra (or Malabar even).
Built the new Metro to go Maroubra - Botany - Mascot - Airport - Marickville - Lidcombe - Parramatta.

They keep doubling down on Central as the only transport hub in the city. It's ridiculous that you can't go from Parramatta to the airport direct.

This is to link in with the 3rd stage metro from parramatta to the city, the proposal isn’t to duplicate the T4 airport line, it’s to convert it to metro standard. In which case you will be able to go from Parramatta to the airport directly. (Albeit through the city)

But if they go with the other option to Malabar obviously you’d need to change at central. That would duplicate the light rail but supposedly the light rail is going to be at 100% peak hour capacity from day 1.

The South-East Light Rail is not the answer. It needs to be a metro or continuation of the Eastern Suburbs line as per the 1977 plan.

Giv the location of the new Townsville stadium surely it’s been designed with some degree of flood tolarance you’d think? I mean a metre or more of water through the ground level of a concrete stadium would create fair mess but not necessarily be something that would be any more than a serious cleanup operation.
I guess though the problem is that it’s half complete and th flooding is going to screw up construction in a huge way.
