Ok, so now, this is what we have to enjoy for a game day experience if we are attending a match at Bankwest.

And, then, we have Brookvale, and Penrith and Campbelltown and Kogarah and Leichhardt and whatever that Shark joint is called these days and whatever their amazing game day experience is these days?

I think I know what I would choose. I'm guessing kids would choose the former as well.

Ok but wouldn’t it make more sense to put it at Leichhardt? Though I guess if the cash is all spent on the COE facilities and not the actual stadium it doesn’t matter
Not really as Canada Bay council put forward a large percentage of the funding. This is about a $60m complex that includes community facilities.

Sharks aren't getting a dime if theres 12 games there

id be going to the ARU and FFA about getting mens and womens games there. IMO its gotta be used double what it is.

then you can really put a proposal for govt funding.

if I had my way I would
1. Bulldoze the ET stand and family hill and beer hill , Create a new stand that goes all the way around but is steep like bankwest. within the footprint you then have made a bunch of space at the back of the existing areas for food and beverage facilities that can be undercover. f**k you could park food trucks there if you wanted.

2. Porter stand I would put in seating infront of it but that's about it.

3. Burn sstand, you knock it all down and build a single tier steep stand with a connecting roof all the way round,

capacity 25k. Beauty

I can't help but be slightly annoyed by the plastic barrier than obstructs the playing field a little bit. I didn't think row 7 would have been am issue. Oh well I guess I'll get used to it.

I live in the Parramatta area; was wondering what all that commotion was the other night.
The stadium is a game-changer.
I was watching Inside the NRL the other night where they were highlighting some of the features of the new stadium - it's going to be irresistible for some of the Sydney clubs just from what they'll be able to offer fans, members, corporates and sponsors.
I can see the Tigers hosting the majority of their home fixtures there in the future.

Just out of curiousity do you have kids?

The reason I ask is mine don't sit still and those chairs that fold up always end up with limps getting caught. Not sure the steep incline would suit either.

For everyone else will be great and may get people actually going to games

That was one thing I thought of when visiting the other day, my wife actually pointed out that she is glad we are in the lower bowl as she is more comfortable about our daughter and her lack of attention when going up and down stairs lol. Fold up seats area pain when you have young kids!

Mate it will be an excellent venue, even with kids, just be mindful if you are in the top section and keep an eye on the kids going up and down the stairs as they are steep!

Just a safety regulation, at least they made it clear. In the past that would’ve been a hand rail for sure.

Its what happens when you get a useless NSW labor running the show for 16 years.

Labor are experts at giving oval codes new stadiums while letting the rectangular codes venues rot.

The state had a massive spend on the Olympic Games if you remember. Pretty hard to justify spend of billions of $$$ afterwards.

The real estate boom and stamp duty receipts have helped the state get money back into the coffers.

I think the odds of substantial upgrades outside of the Moore Park/Olympic Park/Parramatta cluster coming out of the public purse will be increasingly rare as time goes on.

Add to that the escalating costs of upgrades, like what's been announced at Brookvale. $30 million and it'll still be the worst ground in the league by a margin.

I can conceivably see money being diverted to either Penrith or Campbelltown in future as those areas are booming, but I don't really like the odds of other suburban grounds receiving any money from state or federal authorities - certainly not enough to make a difference like we suggest here - as time moves forward.

Depends on how well rugby league uses its public leverage to gain such improvements. Well targeted campaigns with elections about seem to move things along .

Yeah, I’m just not sure. Moore Park, Olympic Park and Parramatta can be presented as good for Sydney/NSW and sport in general.

Upgrades at Cronulla or Penrith are just good for one football club, which is far more divisive an issue.

One disappointing feature I have seen with Bankwest, where the disabled seating is located there appears to be a metal guard rail right at eye level. Would be frustrating.

Which is why they'll never get more than token upgrades and flimsy election promises.
3 tenants + national and international events is the only way government is spending serious money on stadiums

BankWest got done with only two tenants promising to play there.

Give it 10 years and the political landscape could easily change, I could still see another stadium built in the west.

I'm willing to bet a large sum of money that within five years in addition to the Eels and Wanderers, Bankwest will also have a 8-10 game commitment from the Tigers, a 3-4 game commitment from the Panthers and a 2-3 game commitment from the Waratahs.

It's too good a facility to pass up using it.

I don't get why Penrith don't rip up their plans and take a game there this year. It would probably get close to capacity.

Guard rails have to be 1.1-.12m above ground level to comply with safety codes. I’d say that’s unfortunate but unavoidable. Any lower and they’re a risk of not providing adequate protection from a standing person falling over them.
