Which is why they'll never get more than token upgrades and flimsy election promises.
3 tenants + national and international events is the only way government is spending serious money on stadiums

Yep. If they were all really smart Penrith, the Dogs and the Tigers would start talking about pooling resources for a new stadium in the new airport precinct to serve the southwest and sharing that. The Sharks and Manly don’t really have such good options, they kinda have to go it alone if they want to hold onto their heartlands. I can see the Dragons finally moving away from Kogarah once the new Moore Park stadium goes up too.

Guard rails have to be 1.1-.12m above ground level to comply with safety codes. I’d say that’s unfortunate but unavoidable. Any lower and they’re a risk of not providing adequate protection from a standing person falling over them.

You'd have thought that for the disabled areas they could've made them out of a clear material? Or is that against building codes?

I'm willing to bet a large sum of money that within five years in addition to the Eels and Wanderers, Bankwest will also have a 8-10 game commitment from the Tigers, a 3-4 game commitment from the Panthers and a 2-3 game commitment from the Waratahs.

It's too good a facility to pass up using it.

Penrith 1-2 max.

I’ve never seen a clear handrail, and in any case you still wouldn’t really be able to see through it as the round shape would distort everything.

I suppose in my head I was thinking something more like a glass pool fence, which now that I really think about it would be wildly inappropriate and unsafe for somewhere like a stadium.

Yeah, also incredibly expensive compared to steel railings. I’m not 100% sure on the regulations either but I’m basing it on what I know is code for handrails on scaffolding and building sites as well as on ships, and it’s all pretty consistent in terms of the required height so I’d say it’d be pretty much the same.

Bankwest will show whether a top tier stadium generates hype and atmosphere around the local area. There seems to be plenty of buzz so far.

It may end up being the catalyst for getting ANZ done properly.

Let’s hope the crowds show up and that happens

Oh for sure, but my point is they only knew for sure that two teams would play there.

As an aside, I doubt the panthers will play there. More likely is the bulldogs taking their minor games there. Waratahs I doubt too.

Unnecessary imo
Penrith are happy where they are and probably have enough cash coming through the Leagues club to maintain it.
Dogs are served well by the centrally located ANZ or WSS, it's hard to see the appeal of them moving closer to the edge of suburbia

Tigers and the new A-League team could push for a new Campbeltown base but I don't see much value in it for Penrith and Bulldogs

Yeah I agree that’s the problem, Penrith have obvious reasons not to move. I mention the Dogs mainly as it would be closer to their heartland around the Bankstown/Liverpool area and if a train line was put in would connect directly through the Canterbury area too. Wests are the obvious one but would still need a carrot to move from Campbelltown.

Mentioned before but my idea for Penrith would a staged development. Similar to Newcastle but with a final capacity of 25k.

Rebuild the Eastern grandstand first, then the west. Look at doing something with the hills down the track.

Content is definitely important. I’d try to get the wanderers to bring their FFA cup & Asian Champions league games to Penrith. Wanderers can’t go to the south west anymore so Penrith is their natural second home for the smaller games.

I’d also try and get the Matilda’s to base themselves out there.

Maybe pie in the sky but I reckon you could build a stadium around Heathcote/Loftus along the highway that Saints and Sharks could share. The Princes HWY and existing rail line would service transport requirements with little/no modifications I would’ve thought. The oft talked about southern A League franchise would see it gets used all year round.

That won't happen due to the corporate facilities available at Parra.

I don’t know.

Those FFA cup games get pretty small crowds as is, I’d expect they wouldn’t be that popular amongst corporates too. Bankwest is going to be expensive to hire if you’re only getting a small crowd.

If that is the case those sort of games aren't going to make an impact on whether Penrith gets an upgrade or not. The local A Grade GF at Penrith Stadium would get a bigger crowd.

It’s how you help sell it to politicians, and how they sell it to the public. We know better but not everyone does.

90% of politics is piss & wind, you dazzle them with BS.

That’s a decent bit of out of the box thinking.

I think we focus on getting ANZ and the SFS sorted out

Then a few years later work on the suburban venues

But also having 1000 seat grandstands setup in regional centres
