The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

If you want to see the video which is mentioned in the article, you will need to go to the article on the SMH website.

p.s.

Looks like I was wrong. I thought I'd read previously the Waratahs did not want a new stadium at Moore Park.

The Waratahs want a new stadium but only if they can remain at Allianz whilst it's built across the road.

Roosters are happy with this too.

But it ain't going to happen , there's huge community backlash & the PM himself is against it. No way will the NSW govt go against the PM. (Because it takes away open green space)

I am not against playing at Parra for the big game but we can't even fill Pepper now. We need to reguarly fill what have now before we can even think of moving games to bigger venues. I reckon 25% or so won't go that's not an issue with a bigger regular fanbase. atm we only get 8k that are regualars. We double that then possibly

Let's say we got a firm guarantee of a new stadium if we played 3 games a year for 5 years out of Parra?

Surely you'd have to do it.

Short term pain , long term gain.

One of the best and most accurate artists renditions I've ever seen.

NSW firmly camped on their own line, and thick roach supporters holding up 'try' signs.

Great stadium though and definitely the superior option.

FFA and ARU want the new stadium at Moore park, Roosters are like whatever. None of them want to have to move whilst it is being built. One of Australia's failings in the world cup bid, apart from the farce of FIFAS tender legitimacy, was a lack of decent sized modern rectangular stadiums. I suspect FFA is working with Govts to rectify that for a future bid.

NRL has really done a poor job in leadership on this you have to say. They should have had a strategy in place that was positive for fans, positive for clubs, gave the Govt what they are looking for and that led to win wins all round. instead they are asking clubs to take big business risks and change their cultures without much carrot it would seem. Do they have a blueprint for who could and should play where and when? Why haven't they thought about a schedule situation that can take two games to these large 'neutral" venues each week and recompenses the clubs accordingly?
What is their justification for supporting Moore park over ANZ? At the moment even Gallop seems to have a better vision about positive outcomes for soccer in all this than Grant has for NRL!

The neutral schedule idea could have appeased Govt amount of games and created major NRL events in Sydney every weekend with good scheduling and all Sydney blockbusters. NRl could have supported with funding marketing, fan experience enhancements, public transport subsidy and co funding of tickets to throw the gates open to both sets of members. That would have been a better investment than throwing $1.5mill at clubs and hoping they spend it wisely.

The signs actually say GO NSW on the side that is being displayed.
Nice attempt at making others look like fools though.

PS Sorry to derail a serious thread.

What does it look like with 17k in it?
Still a sea of empty blue seats falsely portraying a sport few are interested in?

Mr reality I prefer!

Showing a render of a full stadium is about as relevant to the avg NRL club football experience at ANZ as showing a carrot.

Or are you, in your positive way, thinking that most NRL club games are going to fill the place because the stands are a bit closer to the pitch?

With a steeper rake it actually should look fuller and the ends being brought closer will help as well. Not sure what the capacity of the lower bowl will be but I'd think it'd be the one where you lose seats so let's say 50k so just under 40% full at 17k. I think it will look better on tv. But it's really about the bigger drawing games and having those generate the atmosphere etc that a premium venue should. May even see increased attendances because of that.

Maybe the should upgrade Wentworth Park

an infinitely worse spot than the SFS.:crazy:

it doesn't fit unless you block both wentworth park rd, and wattle street, acquire and demolish buildings along those streets. then there is transport. you cannot drive there, or even close, really. the nearest heavy rail station is central. there are a bunch of small streets for pedestrian access which would have to be blocked off on game days etc etc etc etc etc etc

the lower bowl at ANZ is around 40K. that render would have it at 30 - 35k lower, 30k top and about 20k in the middle.

so 17k would put the lower bowl at 50%.

ANZ/Parra should be the main focus, ANZ as a rectangular stadium would have more tenants and greater potential to draw bigger crowds than Allinaz. The likes of Souths, Bulldogs, Eels, & West Tigers can potentially increase crowds at a rectangular ANZ stadium.

Allinaz has year long use with Sydney FC, Waratahs and Roosters but those teams don't draw the crowds to see Allinaz capacity upgraded. It can be refurbished and done up but no upgrade in capacity, the demand isn't there.

Eels/Dogs/Tigers/Rabbits/Panthers at Pirtek/Dragons at ANZ

When these teams play each other at a rebuilt ANZ or New Pirtek there should be reciprocal rights for members of the away club.

This would get the NRL to its desired 20k ave and place the clubs in a better position financially.

Would also help increase memberships across all these clubs and create a away attendance culture.

FFA have backed ANZ not Allianz.

They just want a refurb at Allianz.
