Easily rectified with the idea a few pages back to use sails to block the upper decks.

Either way the bottom bowl will be excellent viewing.

Like this!

Souths and Canterbury recently average around 20,000 at ANZ.Both have been around 25,000 on some good years.

Is it realistic to expect attendances to improve at least around 5,000 for each club?
Considering a better viewing stadium, better facilities and a retractable roof to guarantee a dry seat EVERY game.
25,000-30,000 is not unrealistic and that would not be far off the capacity of the above picture(35,000-40,000?)

Yeah I really like that idea of blocking the upper decks to improve atmosphere.

Would be a relatively small cost to benefit ratio too.

Not only will it cost over $700M to rebuild Allianz, the NSW Govt will also have to pay out over $300M to buy out the lease at ANZ Stadium to allow it to happen!

This is due to the original Stadium Australia contract(back in 1999) preventing the construction of a 50,000+ seat stadium anywhere in Sydney without the consent of Stadium Australia operators.

So,if Stuart Ayres gets his way
-Pay ANZ Stadium $300M to pay out the contract
(Remembering the NSW Govt get ANZ Stadium for FREE in 2031 if they just leave it)
-Build a $700M Stadium at Moore Park that no one wants
-Make it 55,000 cap which is not enough for a GF or SoO.
-Build it at Kippax Lake destroying the parkland, when there is a 45,000 stadium standing next door
-Build it in a area that is renowned for lack of public transport and horrific traffic.
-and finally,it keeps his mates happy on the SCG Trust and the ARU.

FFS..its a joke..

The Australian Rugby Union and the Waratahs have both come out in support of the NRL in backing a new Moore Park super stadium, though both want Allianz Stadium to remain operational while it is built.

ARU chief executive Bill Pulver and Waratahs chairman Roger Davis, have written to NSW Sport Minister Stuart Ayres to stress the need for the proposed 50,000 to 60,000-seat stadium.

“To confirm, we are supportive of the proposed stadia network solution and the objective to ensure that Sydney has the capacity to handle a range of events across ANZ, Allianz and Parramatta stadiums,” Pulver and David write in a letter to Ayres, a copy of which was obtained by The Australian.

This is the key part from the ARU

Our overwhelming preference is for a new stadium to be constructed at Moore Park and that Allianz Stadium remains operational while a new stadium is constructed.”

I hate to keep harping on this but it won't happen.

Only way a new stadium gets built in that precinct is on SCG trust land , which means Allianz not being operational for 2-3 years.

And LOL at the description of it as a "super stadium"

NRL clubs should counter with either ANZ gets the money of we'll abandon it entirely.

State govt can't afford to have such a large white elephant , it would literally only be used a handful of times a year without the NRL.

start playing hardball.

That nrl proposal seems pretty fair to me

The 200m for high performance units is going to be a bit of a stretch

Giving the dogs $15 m or so when they own a taj mahal is a bit of a joke

But the rest is fair

Be good to see an artist impression of what could be achieved at sfs with say $500m

Surprised nobody has noticed this, appeared in the herald this evening. Bloody brilliant if its correct. Whats reported would perfect for the sport in the city

This is good news but honestly there's so many conflicting reports its hard to know what's going on.

Anyway this piece suggests the Sharks & Sea Eagles will play matches out of Allianz , how many I don't know.

High cost world stadiums run at about $15k a seat. Jerry world about 12k. MetLife in NJ 20k.

If you spent $500m on the SFS you could essentially knock it down and start again.

It needs a spruce up, better outlets, more Corp boxes, replacement seats, a bit of reconfig, and maybe a translucent roof. If that costs 500m they're ripping you off

I reckon there is something dodgy going on

I think where the sfs is zoned mixed use or something , if the trust can claim a new area of the park for the new stadium

They can knock down the sfs and turn it into high rise appartments and mixed use commercial space

That being right on the main Rd into Paddington would be worth $100s of millions which the scg trust could probably pocket

who knows. the adelaide oval cost $524M $85M of that was to buy the existing Western stand. so $439M to rebuild the other 40,000. so about $11K a seat.

New Perth stadium $1bill for 62.5k seats and a train station. Around 15k a seat without the station.
Nib refurb cost around $6.5k a seat but was pretty basic.
