But they are playing at suncorp, the plan was to bring a few games to redcliffe and sunshine coast too... it might be a few years before a set ampunt of games are played there regularly, till then its suncorp
I was replying to his suggestion that if dolphin stadium got another 10k seats it should be their home ground. Which it never should be. At least 10 games a year should be at Suncorp for ever more. Otherwise like I said the nrl is going to end up with a Sydney scenario of many small clubs dotted around the city.

Which is why I think one or two of them could relocate to another region and become stronger than they are in Sydney.

Manly fans across the country will still support them as the Central Coast Sea Eagles. We've got a good stadium in Gosford that has been wasted by our game for almost 20 years while a substandard ground on the Northern Beaches has given the game a black eye. When international viewers see run down grounds like Brookvale, Endeavour, Leichhardt and Wollongong Stadium hosting games it makes them think we're a tiny amateurish game with no money and lowbrow hicks for fans

I like how people who don't live in Sydney are so called experts in the game and think they know better.

No team is being relocated, it's not happening, it won't work. Any teams in new areas need to be new teams.

It's hilarious how triggered the out of town "experts" have gotten the second there was a whisper the Sharks might get some money. Where was this discussion a few months ago.

The sooner the money is announced the better. Whether Sharks get some or not.

I didn’t say they HAD to pay I said they don’t pay (rent paid being the exception ). The point I’m making is they are potentially getting a brand new house (like Penrith) without having had to do any hard work getting the deposit together. Good luck to them I say.

Now the sharks won’t be getting a brand new one nor should they being privately owned but there shouldn’t be any disgruntled people in the NRL fan base if they do get some funding to make the game day experience better for punters.

Or are you literally arguing against what this whole thread is rooting for you high is better standards at footy grounds because the sharks happen to own the stadium?
I said up thread, its the principle of public money being used to fund upgrades to an asset owned by a private entity. It's not anti-Sharks per se, as for example I thought the gifting of public lands to Packer to build Barangaroo Casino and Hotel was similarly wrong.

Unless Dolphin Oval is increased to 20k or more seats then it should never host an NRL Premiership game.

I don't care if it's never used as an NRL ground, but if it were increased to 20k then it would be a great place to hold Brisbane Roar, Queensland Reds and a few Moreton Bay Dolphins games. Brisbane does need a boutique stadium for the Reds and Roar.
The Roar and Reds don't want to play at Redcliffe, it's too far away from their fanbase. I have heard from Roar fans that a lot of the fanbase has been alienated because they are playing in Redcliffe.

Was just going by Wikipedia. Soccer isn't big in Melbourne compared with Sydney so you probably deserve it. Agree we will never host up WC unless it goes biennial. Our last bid was a joke. Here is the official bid video.
just look a the Womens world cup schedule, all the big games are in Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland. The AFL states miss out.

They really need the state govt to make Perry Park in Bowen hills a nice 15-20k stadium. That should be enough for clubs drawing in that range, and I could see that getting a lot of use by many sports.

I'll say it again and hope it sinks in this time.

No one can say relocation won't work. There's no evidence to suggest it won't work. AwFuL did it twice and succeeded both times. In the case of South Melbourne Swans, they're now the largest sports club in NSW!

RL is a great game and a wonderful product to watch. If an AwFuL club from Melbourne can become the biggest club in Sydney then anything is possible. I have no doubt that our game is good enough to draw a following in Adelaide and Perth by relocating Sydney clubs. There's no reason the West Coast Sharks cannot develop a strong following in Perth. All that's needed is for the club to drop all ties with Sydney and focus solely on Perth.

The ARLC won't relocate any Sydney club as it's just a Sydney-based competition pretending to be national, because it needs the money from Brisbane and Melbourne to survive. Take the Broncos, Storm and Cowboys out of the NRL and the worth of the competition drops significantly, as it loses the 2nd and 3rd largest markets in the country and three of the most watched clubs. The fact there are Sharks fans on here who don't know that Broncos, Storm and Cowboys are more popular than most of the Sydney clubs speaks volumes about their ignorance and insularity. It's impossible to reason with people who know nothing about the game and have an entitlement complex.

They should push for a 25 - 30k stadium as part of the Olympic funding program. I know that has pretty much been settled but would have been good for Rugby 7's, some soccer matches and would leave a legacy for the city's newest professional sports team.
The area is going to grow significantly. Its population is already pushing towards 500k. A decent sized stadium in Moreton Bay will make it easier for RL fans on the Sunshine Coast to get to NRL games.

Yeh NRL should just be trying to push their priorities to the front of the spending queue constantly regardless of result.

A few battles left to fight still, in no particular order, some less important/urgent than others:

Stadium Australia (rectangular),
Campbelltown (rebuild or upgrades),
Brookvale (rebuild or upgrades),
Wollongong (upgrades),
Canberra (new stadium),
Newcastle (upgrades),
Auckland (upgrades or new stadium),
Suncorp (upgrades),
Shark Park (upgrades),
Kogarah (upgrades).

That's it. Finally some of you merkins are getting it. F**k whether it makes financial sense or not. If we can propagate Rugby League then we should always be sticking our hand out for more bickies. Never stop wanting and manoeuvring to get a bigger slice of the pie. Money is always being doled out by Governments for worthy causes and non worthy causes. We need to get some from both sides of that ledger. It makes the best business sense and we have been fools not to for so long. Amateurs.

That is the way you stay strong and ahead of the pack. In fact we should have a lobby team always visiting Canberra to influence and wow the pollies. The AFL does. We are just so late to the party and when we get there we leave way to early. The AFL just don't leave. They move in and become part of the family.

Pretty sure Ballymore is getting a decent upgrade to the Western stand, there's talk they'll move back there once the construction is complete.

For RL, Redcliffe as is fine for trial games and maybe 1-2 club games a year against the lower drawing teams in Brissy (Newy and Penrith come to mind). Majority need to be a Suncorp, but I am reserved as to how successful this "club" will be..... They're announcement presser rubbed me up the wrong way with the whole 'we're not a manufactured club like the Broncos and NQ........' Oh okay then merkins, use your real name then if you're so proud of your heritage.

I like the way you think.

I had a look at overhead photos of the refurbished Dolphin Oval. They could have made the Eastern and Western Stands a bit deeper and added a second tier to bring capacity up to 15,000. The northern stand should have a second tier to nudge capacity up to 17,500. A ground of that size would be fine for a few NRL games. With the capacity being no more than 11,500, with just 10,000 of them seated, it's too small for an NRL club and probably too big for a Queensland Cup club.

Easts Tigers are doing it right by only having 5,000 seats at Langlands Park when its refurbishment is completed. The right size for a Queensland Cup club that plans on entering a team in the NRL and playing all of its matches at Lang Park.

Yeah maybe adding a 3rd team to the merger will save it this time.
Would you still support The Sharks if they rebranded as Southern Sydney Sharks and marketed themselves to Sutherland and Southern Sydney?

The bigger their catchment the better their chances of getting a new stadium built for them in a convenient location.
