I'm sure all the act government are currently boarding planes bound for Melbourne to be wined and dined at the mcg tommorrow with over 250 other politicians from around the country ..
We haven’t seen the final plan yet but I honestly think rebuilding the entire lower bowl is more than a bandaid. Level 6 isn’t exactly used much.
so they're doing the same thing you areI'm sure all the act government are currently boarding planes bound for Melbourne to be wined and dined at the mcg tommorrow with over 250 other politicians from around the country ..

leaving the eastern & western grandstands as they are is not a solution. they're too far apart for rectangular games. atmosphere would still be shit in the joint.
compare this:
with this:
Level 6 of either side of ANZ may well be in different postcodes they're that far apart. yes, an american football field of play is narrower than a rugby league or soccer field of play, however century link field can accommodate soccer for the Sounders FC. The top of the main grandstands don't need to move to do this.
the main stands at ANZ were built to accommodate Athletics on a wider oval arena. leaving them in this configuration is pointless for rectangular sport. they need to be brought in closer to the field of play
lolMy concern from the set back would be GWS somehow start pulling crowds
lolIt’s a super long shot, but the longer the stadium is delayed the chances increase.
I’m not sure how to feel about that outcome. Obviously ANZ is a shit hole but I can’t agree with spending hundreds of millions of dollars putting a bandaid on the problem. Hopefully when just about every big event and most NRL clubs start leaving ANZ and it might force their hand to actually do the job properly.
Also it might get the NRL to finally show some backbone and move the GF which would be fantastic for the game.
Is the redevelopment written in as a requirement for the GF agreement?
Either way still such a politically motivated BS decision. I would be surprised at any increase in attendance at either SFS or SOP. However, I can see the game making a lot use of WSS and the crowds there being excellent.
Really hoping all the NRL clubs at ANZ stick two fingers up and out at the end of their tenancy agreements when they don't get the boost in crowds promised by the "upgrade"
Sounds like an amenities upgrade rather than expansion. Capacity is perfect already for AFL and a couple of BBL games. So GWS wants another upgrade to Manuka Oval if they are going to extend their deal with the ACT government beyond 2021, which they'll almost certainly get and more, which means that the new stadium will almost certainly be put off again which means it's likely that Canberra won't see a new rectangular stadium before 2030 at the earliest (no surprises there frankly), or if we do it'll be multipurpose (which would basically be useless to the rectangular sports anyway).
So again the NRL and ARU (and to a lesser extent FFA) have sat around twiddling their dicks while they let things go to shit when all it would take is a little bit of pressure (similar to the pressure the NRL put on the government for the stadiums in Townsville, Parra, etc) to get it over the line, but nope as always Canberra is out of sight out of mind.
The Raiders (and to a lesser extent the Brumbies) need to wake the f**k up and realise that we're all going to be dead and buried before the government actually builds the f**king thing (despite the fact that it's been an election promise since at least 2012 and will be into the future, though again no surprises there), and that even when they do eventually get around to it it won't fit the clubs needs anyway, so stop relying on totally unreliable people that are going to screw you anyway and back your f**king selves to get the job done and get it done right.
The only way a new stadium is going to happen and not be a complete f**k up that is useless to the club is if they build it themselves!

Also the ANZ stadium photo is taken with a much wider lense fhere...Do you realise a NFL field is on 50 yeards wide not 66 m
Also the ANZ plans were going to lower the field by 3 m
The original GF deal wasn’t just for a redevelopment but the full knock down and rebuild for 25-30 year agreement.
But the ARLC then bent over and agreed on the re-build with the SCG retro GF for the 2-3 years during the redevelopment after the original deal was blown up when the NSW gov moved the goal posts.
That was their chance to stand up them and take it away to prove a point but they didn’t do it.
The original deal announced by Baird was just for a refurbishment of ANZ, then around two years later it changed to a rebuild and lastly it changed to a refurbishment again. Although the final refurbishment isn’t likely to be the same of the first, the intitial one wasn’t costed properly.
