For f**ks sake, when are people going to get it through their f**king skulls it had nothing to do with the view from the seats as to why the stadium is being replaced?

It's facilities for disabled and female fans were arcane, there was virtually no cover from the elements, it's pathways of access and egress were deathtraps if anything bad ever went down there and the corporate areas were bolted on after the fact in the worst possible place. Due to the design of the stadium, a patchwork renovation was not possible without costing almost as much as building a completely new stadium.

I live in Newcastle and seldom visit the SFS but even I understand completely why this is being done.

Because these are all FALSE. Any of these shortcomings (if they really even exist at all) can be addressed at a fraction of the cost.

so why are your Labor mates in Vicderpia spending $225 million upgrading a newer stadium that's not even owned by the taxpayers?

Probably because a good chunk of the allotted development relates to non stadium upgrades and more about developing the surrounding area with shops and restaurants as well creating a better link to the CBD.

Waiting for those great orators of our time ,in the world of sport, namely Raelene Castle and David Mumbles Gallop to second Greenberg's comments.
I mean both their sports will no doubt ,use the new facilities. Can't be too hard to open your respective gobs surely?

Yep, throw more people in behind the white elephant to help catch the poo.

You'll have to wait until its completed - then you'll hear them squealing to be the first to use it.

As someone who went to the Penrith Cronulla final, there are definitely things that can be improved at the stadium but it sure as shit ain't worth almost a billion dollars.

The surrounding streets and the twenty minute waits at the nearby choke points is a different story. Throwing shit tonnes of money on having a nice little light display at the ground isn't going to make a difference to my twenty minute wait on the Panthers bus just to leave the stadium's street after a game that didn't even get 20 thousand people.

The "white elephant" will be used by many more groups than the SCG.The latter also received Govt monies and brought up to scratch.
I would have preferred a refurbishment not a rebuild for the SFS.
Anycase the State Govt is throwing in $244m for an extension to the NSW Art Gallery. The protests are deafening .Oh wait. For the few.
The ACT Govt throws in $2.3m pa to the Gnats for 3 games a year for 10 years.Yep the crowds are rioting.
Let's wait another 10 years and really have to slosh the billions around.

Frankly I hope it does get knocked on the head and dopey Daley reaps what he sows.

Refurbishment would have been better idea thus I agree. The womens' toilets or lack of them , are a disgrace. The food and bar areas need upgrading to cater for crowds to prevent huge queues. The cover is just about non existent ,even in the better seats.
Took my daughter to the Sharks v Cows semis in 2016. She noted the queues in the toilets were ordinary and dated. The crowd was est 38,000.
Crowds dropped off for many reasons, but access, and lack of cover and old facilities do not encourage families nor others.I've been drenched at the place ,at an SOO years ago, and I was in the middle of the middle row .

Anyway looking forward to G/Fs,SOO and overseas acts going elsewhere.

Nothing wrong (as a taxpayer)with questioning Govt expenditure.Perhaps you could have extended the questioning into other questionable fields by State Govt's and ACT Govts. The silence in many areas has been deafening.

Why would I talk art on a Rugby League forum?

It’s not a subject I’m at all familiar with so I’m not in a position to critique it. It may or may not be money well spent. I don’t mind taking the odd stroll through the gallery though. It can be thought provoking.

I do regularly attend sport and I frequent the SFS. There is nothing that screams that the place should be torn down.

Parra stadium will be a good test of the add on issues that have been overlooked.

Can you explain to me how you would improve access times in and out of the ground, improve corporate facilities, catering facilities, access to toilets, disability access, the fire sprinkler system and the roof on a budget of less than $300m?

To make that assertion, you must know the cost of addressing those items within the confines of the existing stadium design. For the edification of the rest of us, what is it?
