20 I think is a stretch and even if it does get 20, that's worth the money in your opinion?

The new SFS will probably average close to 1 event a week.

VenuesNSW will run Penrith like it does Newcastle etc, so will have no issue getting the events. As for worth the money would having an airport 30mins away with a state of the art new stadium for sporting events, concerts etc. Attract better, bigger companies to set up base at Bradfield?

If it does then is money well spent. Australia is a far away from the rest of the world the appeal might be there to do several shows at several stadiums in Sydney and enjoy the stay more. Elton John for example did Bathurst, Bankwest, and 4 other Sydney shows.

So potentially it could be a white elephant but there is reason to believe it isn't

If the upgrade happens to Penrith, the running of the venue will fall to VenuesNSW, just like it did for Wollongong, Parramatta and Newcastle.

As such, I don't see them struggling to get 20+ events a year at the venue, they already get more than that to WIN Stadium and it only has half an NRL team and not much else.

The likes of the NRL, FFA and Rugby Australia will find content to take there as well, simply as they know how valuable their deals with VenuesNSW are.

Anyway, let's see if it gets announced. From an NRL crowd perspective, it is a great pick, Penrith are the type of club that could average 20K+ rather comfortably in a new venue, which is what the game needs to bring back up the averages.

The crowd demographic is pretty young as it is at Penrith games now. As those kids get older and have their own side. Throw in the predicted extra 60k population that will possibly not be aligned to other NRL sides and it could be a real boom for NRL. Just need to find the other events now

Worth noting that new modern stadia also add capacity for corporate events on non-match days. Creates additional event spaces in the area and stadia are generally unique in that space.

Throw in things like monster trucks or concerts and the benefits are pretty good in a post-COVID world I'd have thought.

Surely wont pass the business case stage unless im missing something,
is this part of sydney a pivitol swinging seat critical to the next election ?
Single tennent grounds who will pretty much remain single tennent after these significant funds are spent on them is a gross misuse of public funds.

You think there was a stink after the last lot of plans were announced , wait til this is revealed " officially " as the plan. Labor & Peter Fitzmoron will have a field day.
Brookvale makes even less sense.

these ideas are a big
yeah

nah

I’d be very surprised if Labor went hard against this, simply because the area is a swing seat both state and federally.

If Penrith does get a new stadium, then governing bodies like the FFA and RA would be crazy not to bring some content, especially if they want to grow their sports.

At the new ground, you could have regular rep fixtures such as Socceroos, Matildas, womens Origin, Pacific tests, Wallabies etc.Plus throw in concerts.

And female sport is growing. Possible NRLW side in the future.

My question would be, why would any of those vendors choose Penrith over bankwest?

Bankwest offers the same thing in a more central location.

So what’s the future for ANZ if all these pocket stadiums get built? Can’t imagine any government being happy with ANZ sitting on prime land only being used three times a year. Maybe that’s the driver to get the refurb back on track or they’ll take the easy route and sell the land off for housing. We get it so wrong, so often in this town.

The only non panther sport possibilities I see would be the WSW FFA cup games, W-League and maybe Matildas. Penrith is too far west for RU.

Matildas have played to a large crowd at Penrith before, but maybe they’d prefer bankwest now.

They need to come up with some creative non sport uses for the stadium.

It won’t go, we need a large stadium for the big events. Probably gets a refurb or rebuilt around the 30-40 year mark of the stadium.

i’d still like to see it used for 4-5 event NRL games per year, where we can conceivably get a crowd of 35k+.

It is probably a long shot, but the RWC may force the ACT Gov to get its shit together for a new stadium.
Yeah that’s the kind of thing it will potentially effect, major cities that don’t have a decent stadium will get upgrades so they can host big games. But it’s not really much help for anywhere that has a decent stadium in the region already.

South’s would be crazy not to take advantage of the new SFS.
If they still want to appease their inner west fan base than take a handful of games to BW (or new Liverpool) and the rest to SFS.
Brand new rectangular stadiums on offer, why in hell use an outdated 83k oval. Madness. ANZ should only be used for GF and SOO, unless it gets a complete rebuild. West’s & Doggies should like wise.
Inner west fans would largely prefer the SFS to Bankwest anyway, it’s closer. Bankwest is only more convenient for those west of Ashfield or thereabouts.

They own the golf club not just the clubhouse.
Purchased for 4M, developer valued at approximately 12M although no plans to do anything with it right now. Future proofing the club.
It's valuation hinges entirely as to whether it can be redeveloped or not, at this point in time I don't think it has that zoning ,and remains to be seen if it is permissible in the future.

Penrith getting a new 25-30k stadium for one regular tenant, with little to no hope of any others any time soon, has to be the biggest joke.

It has future white elephant written all over it, and frankly it stinks of pork barrelling like the QCB Stadium. That's modern politics for you though; it's not about the best outcomes for the people, it's all about what's best for getting re-elected and the palms that are greased along the way.

Good luck to the Panthers though, don't hate the player hate the game, and all that.
QCB stadium? You mean the one in Townsville?

Well, I guess at least that has scope for year-round use if the NQ Fury (or equivalent) ever become part of A-league expansion planning.. even though that's a long shot, still better odds of THAT than another Penrith-based team in some other top tier competition.

There are three reasons why a RA, NRL or FFA would take an event to a new Penrith Stadium over say Bankwest or the new SFS.

Firstly, Penrith and the Lower Mountains are almost a completely separate market to the rest of Sydney. Sure there is a level of crossover just based upon geographic proximity, but holding an event in Parramatta doesn't mean you'll get people from Emu Plains, just like holding an event in Penrith may not even get notice in Castle Hill.

So if sports want that market, they'll consider the venue.

The second is availability. Bankwest already has a pretty full schedule. If a sport wants to hold an event on the same day it's booked out and want to be out west, they'll need to consider Penrith.

Thirdly, VenuesNSW will tell them where to play if they want money. There is a reason why Australia v NZ went to Wollongong versus Newcastle in 2019 and it wasn't because the NRL felt it would do better down there.

Bankwest does not have anything close to a full schedule. 30 - 40 events per year? Genuinely profitable stadiums like the MCG and Docklands have double that.
Moving events that might have been @ BW to Penrith doesn't add up. However, Penrith makes a lot more sense than Kogarah. 25K is the right number. WIll be awesome for Panthers & RL if it happens.

we are never going to lockout 40K fans out of our GF or SOO, or RWC finals .. big soccer matches etc
it will eventually be upgraded
the only bulldozing done , will be when it is upgraded or replaced.
This is the genius of pushing the four boutique stadiums now, eventually Sydney's premier venue will need upgrading anyway and in the mean time the NRL is much better served with smaller club venues.
