Perhaps the NRL should put a few million into the design of any new Hobart Stadium just to ensure it includes “compromises” that make it “suitable” for hosting Rugby League. Certainly ye olde rectangular sports would prefer a thinner straighter ground like Stadium Australia than a big open oval like the MCG. Promise them an annual pre-season double header for 5 years and a one off Australia v New Zealand test match.

This is a classic case where the NRL and the FFA need to lobby together for either modifications to this Stadium OR a parallel build of a boutique rectangular stadium.

Just as AFL & cricket seasons dove-tail into each other to make for year-long tenancy, the league & soccer seasons fit well to fill-out the calendar.

Yeah, a Tasmanian A-League team is a closer prospect than a Tasmanian NRL team, but maybe the NRL could look at a Hobart team in the 2nd tier (NSW Cup?) as a stepping stone.

With the new stadium in Hobart they could just copy Optus Stadium by having the first row of seats 1.5-2 meters above the playing surface and then get an additional few thousand seats trucked in like Perth did for the double header to bring those spectators closer to the action. In the meantime, there's these three stadiums available, sadly Tasmania doesn't have a real NRL friendly venue, being a heavily AFL state.

It does put to bed the argument earlier that you can’t build a stadium on water

broncos v souths 52K ?

hahaha
it'll be lucky to get 35K & will more likely get closer to 30K
It was actually selling pretty well and with the right promotion would probably have seen 45k plus. Unfortunately half the city copping flooding and then Reynolds getting covid, 27k-32k is where it will probably end up.

Next event at Suncorp is scheduled for Friday Night, a Super Rugby game, that'll most likely get moved and I wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos vs Souths game is moved as well, the Titans too are reporting problems with their home ground, but it's mainly to do with access
The scrums will f**k up the already saturated turf. They should just play the onionball at Perry Park. Its capacity is more than enough for the Reds' small fanbase.

Optus in Perth is on reclaimed land. Very expensive.
But in good news for rectangular sports, the new Hobart Stadium would be multi-purpose, and UTAS in Launceston is also getting a $135M upgrade including moveable seats for rectangular sports. Also a new small stadium at Penguin capable of hosting rectangular sports. A-League mentioned in Premier's announcement but not RL.

Saw This online earlier. It’s for an upgrade to WIN stadium and the surrounding area. I wonder if this will get included into the Suburban upgrade deal. Which wasn’t that supposed to be released in December last year?
