The stands at Penrith date back to the 60’s and 70’s. You can’t build on the Southern end due to sewer issues and there is no room at the Northern end. How do you upgrade the ground to modern standards with 25-30k capacity without rebuilding it on a new site? An ‘upgrade’ would leave it barely better than it is now and would still need rebuilding in a few years.
When they rebuilt Parramatta most people don’t realise that the cost of $350m doesn’t include the almost $100m to relocate and rebuild Parramatta pool in a community aquatic centre. The claim that it would cost more than Commbank to build on the Paceway site doesn’t recognise this.
