You don't understand. Barr wont allow anything other than a rebuild of Bruce.
I totally understand that. He and Rattenbury would block the rebuild of Bruce if they had the power to as well, but the thing is that both are beholden to the electorate at the end of the day.

That's why you've got to stop playing into Barr's hands and start building support from other stakeholders in the community. This is a game of politics, not a battle of wills, and you will change minds, or at least make portions of the population more sympathetic to you, if you can introduce viable alternatives with sound business plans.

We also need to shift the discussion from being just about "an expensive stadium for rich professional football clubs" to one about sports infrastructure for the community in general. It needs to be constantly reiterated that the stadium isn't just for the Raiders and Brumbies, but is for the whole community to use, and the Raiders/RL should go out of their way to support other necessary sports infrastructure projects alongside the stadium to build good will as well, even if that means going so far as to chip in themselves from time to time.

It still means he’d have to move funds away from the light rail extensions, which is his baby.

As long as it’s an ALP/Greens government that’s the priority. And the ACT libs are sliding even further into obscurity with their position on the Voice to Parliament, which enjoys broad support in the ACT.

As much as I despise RU and as much as I am indifferent to Soccer, those two need to get off their arses more and help us make a stronger case for these grounds that they will benefit from and stop sitting back letting us take all the public heat for it.
A league has done its bit

parra stadium only really got redone cause of the wanderers

canberra a league side is coming in but sounds like the chief minister doesn’t care

The oldest parts of the Meninga stand are, but it's been upgraded a few times since then.

It started out as an athletics oval with a running track around it, which is why it's a weird shape.
Funnily enough that’s a very similar situation to Mt Smart- that was the main venue for the 1990 Commonwealth games and the older of the two main stands dates from that period. When it became the Warriors home ground for their debut season in 1995 a temporary stand was built on top on the running track on the eastern side and there was still track between the western grandstand and pitch, and at the northern end. When the eastern stand was built the track on the western side was mostly removed and the pitch moved closer to the stand so it became a proper rectangle- but you can still see the space where the old track was at the northern end between the in-goal and the hill.

here’s the footage of the closing ceremony showing it in Athletics mode with all the temporary seating on the hills completely packed. Must’ve been 40k there.

There's more to party politics than just the two major parties. Besides, even just building influence among Labour party supporters, doners, and the business community would be enough to put actual pressure on him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm under no illusions that any of this stuff will ever happen. They would have had to started doing it a decade ago if it was going to happen, but they're too entitled and lazy to take such a tact. Like most Australians they're happy to constantly complain that the political establishment sucks but continue to support and vote for that same establishment.

BTW, I'm not really interested in getting into a discussion about the Voice, but even in Canberra support for the Voice is much more fractured than you are making out. Any liberal (philosophy not party) should oppose it on principal, of course most people are clueless as to what they think and why when it comes to their philosophy and politics these days.

Does Canberra really need this light rail network?
They average person's opinion depends on who they are, what they do, and where they live in the city, but most people either don't pay enough attention to care or don't support it but refuse to vote against Labour/Greens because of other issues, which gives Barr a mandate to build it anyway.

But to directly address your question; it's significantly more expensive and less effective than other public transport options, but creates defined transport routes that are great for developers. So unless you're a developer, in which case you think it's a great idea, Canberra doesn't need the light rail network.

So you aren’t interested in getting into a discussion about the voice but start one anyway? And then hopped on your high horse describing most people as clueless on the issue? What a Gronk. Seriously. You really do suffer from a superiority complex.

My opinion on the voice is John Farnham should be left alone from any complaints. He is an Australian music icon.

Now back to stadiums...

He’s just saying that to help his old union club

how many union tests could Canberra possibly get

the arlc needs to get involved and speak directly with albanese and circumvent the fumbler Barr

I can't believe we(ARLC) still don't have a lobby team that constantly interacts and exerts it's influence(even with publicly known inducements) on our Governments like the AFL have been doing for decades.

We are just so dumb.

Then stop pushing for a stadium in Civic and look for a workable compromise that's undeniably a better outcome for all. There isn't room for a stadium in Civic anymore anyway, not unless we're willing to knock down buildings, reclaim land, or work with the NCA, none of which is going to happen.

Building it in any of the city centres, and a handful of other places as well, would be a better outcome than Bruce, and identifying and proposing potential locations for a stadium in those alternate locations that aren't even being discussed is what the pro-stadium lobby should have been exploring for years now instead of flogging the dead horse that is a Civic Stadium.

Well where are these other desirable locations?
