A huge white elephant oval stadium that will not get more than half full at any given time outside the Olympics.

Such a stadium would be in the order of $1B to build also.

From what I’ve seen the moveable stands almost always cause problems with either being expensive to maintain and keep operational or damaging the pitch. Most of the stadiums end up getting locked into one mode or the other to save on costs, and for the reasons I stated above the view from the fixed upper tiers is always average for rectangular sports due to the distance they have to be from the pitch.

There’s some pretty amazing pitch innovations these days like Tottenham interchangeable pitch and roll in roll out pitches, pitches that are stored under ground etc. just a question of money and design and if its cheaper to build a proper re configurable stadium or to build an oval and rectangular stadium seperate. Would love to see someone give it a go but there really isnt any Australian cities left other than canberra that needs new oval and rectangular stadiums at same time, and they won’t have the billions needed.

It looks like there's room for additional rows on the upper decks of the 2003 stands although the roof might have to be replaced as they might only see the beams underneath the actual roof as seen below. I don't know why they didn't design the stands (at least the Eastern Stand) with bigger top decks

Building a 70k Oval in Brisbane would be like building a Wembley replica in Perth for a FIFA World Cup, it’s handy for a few weeks then becomes a white elephant. AFL and cricket events would be lucky to sell out a 70k stadium once every 5-10 years between them.

It’d be reliant on taking Origin, Broncos, Socceroos, Matildas, Bledisloe and/or RWC games to get anywhere near capacity for sport. Those are all rectangular so fans cop a shitter experience for their biggest events while the AFL and Cricket won’t need the extra 20k seats any more than once or twice a decade.

It’s the blueprint for what is wrong with the Olympics. They were happy with 50k and 50k is about the right size for an oval in Brisbane for the foreseeable future. Save money on the extra 20k seats and eventually put it towards upgrading/expanding the main stadium, Suncorp.

Eventually the ideal setup would be:
60-70k Rectangular (Suncorp) - NRL & big Union & Football games.
45-50k Oval (Gabba or New Build) - AFL & Cricket.
25k Rectangular (New Build) - Club Union & Football games.

Not in oversized athletics stadiums no, stadium Australia didn't deliver any benefits to attendances in Sydney.

Now Accor and the new Parramatta stadium have, as has new, purpose built stadiums in Melbourne (AAMI vs Olympic Park) and Townsville.

What he is referring to is new stadiums in the UK, covered from a concept in Spain mind you, is instead of the entire pitch being rolled in as per Vegas, is the pitch is cut up into strips and stored believe ground in UV chambers, then reassembled on game day.

Still not fit for purpose, we have a configuration mismatch. What are we going to do here? Store 15,000 seats below ground, and fill in the side lines for a rectangular game? No, it's just sliding stands in steroids.

There has never been an issue with the quality of seats in the lower bowl which are movable.

It has always been the quality of the seats in the immovable seats which are too far back as they are placed for an oval ground.

Now ones looks at Accor and says "I want less than this", and Accor can never fit a multipurpose design.

All in all this is about AFL in Sydney (they have the SCG) and Brisbane (they have all they need in the Gabba), and to a lesser extent Canberra because the guy in charge of the purse strings right now has sucked a lot of AFL....

Its a grub organisation putting their hand out for public money to suit themselves... Let PVL point and laugh at them, we compromised with stadium Australia and it stuffed us for a quarter of a century. Westham got the London Olympic stadium and a lack of redesign has impaired it too, I think Manchester comm game ended up as Etihad stadium, a bit different? IIRC?

Would love to see brooky get sorted and turned into an all seater, though a full roof is an unnecessary expense.
There is a masterplan developed that has the north stand replicated around the whole ground with a 2nd tier along each sideline for a capacity of 23.5k.

In a shock crossover, Manly Sea Eagles have held talks with the UFC over a potential 4 Pines Park major upgrade, in the full SPORT CONFIDENTIAL.

Manly have held talks with the UFC over an alliance that could culminate in 4 Pines Park being turned into a modern 20,000 seat stadium with a roof.

Sea Eagles chair and majority owner Scott Penn met UFC powerbrokers while in Las Vegas for the club’s season opener against South Sydney, where they discussed a potential partnership that would result in the UFC using 4 Pines Park as their training base in Australia.

The ambitious plan would crucially mean an overhaul of 4 Pines Park, resulting in the venue being turned into a boutique stadium capable of holding up to 20,000 people.

Penn revealed they were also keen to incorporate a roof as part of the renovation. It is understood the cost of the project could be as much as $300 million, but it would give Sydney’s northern beaches a stadium worthy of hosting an NRL team as well as other major events.

“We would like to see it as a 20,000 seat stadium with a roof,” Penn said.

“We talked to the UFC guys and they said they would be interested in a partnership with us on it.”

Manly haven’t given up on securing government funding to help with the project and it is understood that chief executive Tony Mestrov will hold talks with government officials in coming weeks over the plan.

The Sea Eagles have discussed incorporating first responder accommodation around the ground as part of their project to help justify government investment.

Manly trained at the impressive UFC headquarters in Las Vegas as part of the preparation for their win over the Rabbitohs.

The UFC Performance Institute is a one-stop shop for UFC fighters, housing a sprawling gym, medical and training facilities and a kitchen.

Manly are keen to return to Las Vegas next year given Penn struck up a relationships with San Francisco 49ers president last week, prompting discussion over the NFL giants buying a stage in the Sea Eagles.

If you actually read the article you would realise the ufc aren't planning to build a stadium for manly.

All that happened was that manly powerbrokers met with and discussed the ufc partnering with manly and getting brooky utilised more. This in turn would help the case for funding, be it private or public, to upgrade brookie.

Nothing might ever come of it, but it's just a result of the vegas games and manly meeting with and discussing things with a couple of big sporting organisations in america.

And we can't expect newscorpse not to put clickbait headlines on it.
