This bit I really like

Edit: Lol at me, this bit I really hate. I read it as ANZ Stadium Trust taking control of Parramatta Stadium, which would make a hell of a lot more sense. But why the f**k would Parramatta, Bulldogs or Tigers want to take matches to Penrith

You should have posted the whole story.

Parra,Bulldogs and the Tigers are closer to the Olympic Stadium.

The population out West need their stadium more than any of the others clubs needs.

Look at what Penrith can and will offer:

Penrith Panthers general manager Phil Gould says the state government?s decision to scrap further funding for suburban grounds won?t hinder plans to build a new stadium in western Sydney.

The Panthers have been working closely with the government in the hope of a new stadium being built in Penrith, with plans drawn up for a $350million complex on the site of Sportingbet Stadium.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres was quoted by News Corp on the weekend saying the state government would not fund suburban grounds like Leichhardt Oval, Brookvale Oval and WIN Jubilee Oval in the future, rather centralising its funds to upgrade Allianz Stadium and ANZ Stadium or build a new stadium in the west.

The state government could be at loggerheads with the federal government after Manly?s No.1 ticket-holder, Prime Minister Tony Abbott, pledged to upgrade Brookvale Oval as recently as Friday while attending the match between the Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers.
Gould said the Panthers had been anticipating the announcement for some time. He believes the people of western Sydney deserve a new facility to be built in the area.

??We totally understand the government?s position. We have been very proactive in holding discussions with the government on its future stadia strategy. We are encouraged by Minister Ayres? reference to the possibility of a third major stadium being built in Western Sydney. The people of the new west of Sydney need and deserve such a major sporting and entertainment facility.??
Ayres, MP for Penrith, was quoted as saying: ??My long-term view ... is that we have to make the transition from suburban grounds to major stadium facilities. Sport in NSW will not compete nationally or internationally if we restrict ourselves to suburban facilities.??

In April it was revealed that Panthers were applying the finishing touches on a master plan for a 35,000-seat stadium in Penrith, expected to cost $300-$500million. It would be a roofed complex with an aquatic centre that could be used by NRL teams, the Western Sydney Wanderers, the Penrith Emus rugby union club and other local sporting teams.

The Parramatta Eels and Western Sydney Wanderers also unveiled a $120million proposal to turn Pirtek Stadium into a 32,000-seat venue.
The Eels and Wanderers have had regular meetings with Venues NSW and Parramatta City Council to discuss the proposal to build new grandstands at the northern and southern ends of the ground that would link the Ken Thornett and Mick Cronin stands.

But of course, when theres a crap-fight for the big dollar, common sense comes second and more than likely the state government will ignore the west once against and give it to the more influential types in Sydney.

Put a stadium in the west, and it will get filled.

If all the fans are guaranteed a seat, the catchment area surrounding Penrith will attract them like flies.

Penrith do not have the transport infrastructure to support 40k stadia.

Heck even 15k at Penrith the traffic gets ridicules. Also not enough parking either.

A stadium in Penrith was reliant on WSW being bought out by Panthers group, that is not happening so Stadium in Penrith is just pie in the sky from Gus.

I can think of none to answer your questions. English soccer is the closest I can think of with london having a few teams.

Think about it,Penrith are forwarding a masterplan. What do you think that entails?

This will be quite the development that I'm sure will impress everyone.

It will account for a huge par parking station that will not only make money on game day,but for other events at the ground such as rock concerts, business expos, international sporting fixtures,Association Football,Rugby Union.

Also implemented in this masterplan would be the public transport configuration.

There will be a bus service to and from Penrith rail every few minutes with the buses picking up and dropping off at Penrith Park's new interchange.

So plenty of wheels to get the fans there. The same exact way the S.C.G.gets it fans to the ground.

The surrounding roads and other infrastructure will be developed to alleviate the already traffic construction.

A vast amount of time and money would have gone into a project such as this...you have to get it right the first time.

EPL has 6 London teams 36k stadium average plus 4 championship teams with a 21k average stadium between the 4. Not to mention Wembley, twickenham, olympic stadium, lords and the oval.

La Liga has 4 Madrid teams with an average stadium of 40k.

Buenos Aires and the greater metro areas contains nearly all of the top flight soccer clubs in their structure.

Not sure how crowds go but its a really high density. Regardless, soccer has the advantage of relegation and promotion so under performance is punished. Medicore clubs are stuck in our elite structure until the point where the club can no longer operate at that level and then they are cut adrift from professional footy letting fans and regions associated with the team drift away. Easy to see which is the smarter structure.

You can never put too much stock in a master plan. They still need capital, for that they need investors; either none will be interested or they will want input in the final designs and plans. Masterplans are just about forming an idea/overview of how you want the city to evolve...

As for Penrith as a potential site, its just so far away from every other potential tenant (confirmed with the news that Panthers missed out on buying the Wanderers) the only why they would get the nod would be some dodgy government politics...

Id assume the choice would be between Blacktown and Parramatta; i would argue for Blacktown Showground as the best possible option, but i wouldnt be surprised with a Parra Stadium redevelopment just to save money.

what NRL risk? The NRL has no say in it, they can;t make the NSW govt spend hundreds of millions on suburban grounds nor will they make clubs move. The harsh financial realities is what will make clubs move. It may be a good thing, forcing clubs to get their sht together and have a broader appeal across sydney, or they may stay in their dinosaur ways and go extinct as they ring their hands that Manly fans won't travel to ANZ or Sharks fans to Allianz.

Why would the sharks move?It was noted by Irvine CEO then in 2012,that the club via their development was working on the commercial reality for the stadiums extension.IE not reliant on Govt funding. You have a better chance when you own your own ground.A fact no other club can brag about.
In fact down the line they are aiming for a boutique 23,000 capacity stadium.
More so when the same club is expected to be among the top there or four financially.
Ironic they got 17,000 the biggest crowd for the round.

If they get their priorities right, i think the sharks could be the dominant club in the nsw cup in the near future.

Surely you mean the Ron Massey cup?

I've been to shark park, it needs three new stands to be classed as a modern stadium. I was surprised they didn't include a replacement of at least one stand as part of the development plan.

yep when the WA govt committed to redevloping nib rather than build a new one (which they bloody well should have done at Burswood grrr!) they then spent a packet buying the lease from the Town of Vincent and the stadium management contract.

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/rugby-union/a/10096437/boost-for-perth-rugby-soccer-stadium/

Nib is really well located though, there's a bus stop right outside which is within the FTZ. It's really close to the freeway, claisebrook and east perth stations and it's within walking distance of the city and northbridge, with all the bars and eateries. There's also a lot of room to expand the parking lot at east perth stn, I know people hate walking here, but it's only 10 minutes down summers street. I can't think of a better location for a stadium here in perth and it looks so much better since the renovation. Also $5 million is not that much money and I think a large portion of that went to renovating Beatty park which is also looking better.

It was $5mill plus a yearly $25k payment for 50 years plus some really shonky deal with the SMC! All up it has cost $95mill rebuild, $11.25mill town of vincent, $8mill smc buy out, $250k to Glory for inconvenience. For not much more we could have had a brand new stadium! As is it still needs around $80-100mill to finish it. (New corporate boxed West stand, roof on South stand, new roofed North stand) That is a total cost of around $215mill by the time it is finished. for a 25k stadium.

nib isn't a bad spot but it is a bit of a walk from everywhere and parking is poor. They could have built an AAMI style 30k new stadium at Burswood next to the new Perth Stadium, new train stop right to the door, there will be a new entertainment precinct around the new stadium, casino and hotels on door stop, large amount of car parking and straight off freeway. It was a major missed opportunity.

You might not know but we were supposed to get a rectangular stadium in 2000 where the Perth arena was built. It was supposed to be built as part of the car parking deal for the convention centre when it was built but mysteriously it never happened, a nice back hander somewhere along the line!

I really don't think its that much of a walk from east perth stn, people here really, really hate walking though.
and as I said there is a lot of room for them to build a multi level car park at the transport centre.
I agree with you though they could've built a new stadium with the money they've spent and the money that's still required to improve nib, maybe they could've done something similar to tim hortons field in hamilton which cost about $140 million http://www.ticats.ca/tim-hortons-field-overview
Was unaware of the rectangular stadium circa 2000, was before i arrived though

no its not, its actually not a bad pub crawl from Northbridge either which is my normal route or if I drive I normally park up near Queens and have a pint and feed in there before the 10min walk. Not saying its bad, just what they could have done could have been so much better. It could be a very long time before we see the second part of the redevelopment built.

Crazy prices here, they built the whole KC stadium for less than the East stand cost at nib!

I agree with you but think $215 million isn't a bad in a city that managed to spend $550 million on a 14k arena that failed to meet fire safety standards
