Future NRL Stadiums

Its not about forcing teams from suburban grounds. Its about government making best use of money set aside for sporting grounds.

We have nine teams playing out of Sydney. We cannot have nine different grounds of acceptable NRL standard. Their is just not enough money to do so. It would be quite stupid to try and do so.

There is three grounds/stadiums that we should concentrate on and develop at themain rugby league playing arenas in Sydney. They are ANZ. Allianz and Parramatta.

Here's the plan - ARLC put up $100mill, NSW Govt put up $50mill, private investors put up $150mill. 5 Tennants paying around $1.5mill in rent each year, investors are paid back over 25 years, ARLC owns the stadium and makes money from it for other uses such as concerts and other such ventures.

That would mean clubs paying around $150k a game but keeping all gate receipts and corporate box sales (-10% to ARLC) (20k crowd = profit of approx $200k plus corporates a game). food and drink sales go to ARLC for upkeep costs etc

Obviously rough guesstimates but where there is a will I am sure there is a way of delivering a 35-40k RL owned stadium in the West of Sydney that would make a big difference to attendances and clubs bottom lines.

Knock down the SFS and sell the land to private developers.

Supplement this money with funding from state and federal governments plus the NRL to build a modern 50k all seater on reclaimed airspace above the tracks between central and redfern

There's actually a pretty good piece of land in Chippendale/Ultimo on Broadway right next to the Western concourse...

Perth Red its pretty unrealistic to expect that volume of money to come from the game for stadium in the short and even medium term, nor do i think the state/federal gov't will be tipping in for a new build any time soon. The stadia report will all but confirm this IMO and more than likely freeze gov't funded suburban upgrades.

I would like to see
-A roof on Allianz, boost to 50k if possible.
-All matches at ANZ, Allianz, Parra and Hunter designated as events with free public transport.
-Parra upgraded in capacity and facilities.

Once the Tigers contract with Allianz finishes they could be pushed into stageing their bigger games at Parra.

Why not, were paying for everything else in your brokearse Eastern states!
Hurry up and secede then.

In the 30s you people had a referendum to secede, it passed and everyone basically ignored it.

Go on and become your own country.

Nobody ignored it, it was defeated as unconstitutional because it took place without the consent of the commonwealth. Take a history lesson before you decide to be condescending.

God your ignorance gets worse every day.

I've learnt in life the only thing that makes something unrealistic is lack of action. It's not unrealistic if there was a will to make it so. ANZ should not be an option for club games as it damages the perception of how successful the game is. Once you start from that premise you can start to plan for a quality suitable alternative into the future. As for govt's Pharr, their policies are easily changed with the correct lobbying and public opinion.

Will it be easy to achieve? No. Is it impossible to achieve a 35k purpose built RL stadium in Western Sydney owned by the Arlc? Absolutely not.

It almost happened. The Bulldogs and Liverpool City Council were to build a 40k all seater in Woodward Park in 2000 until it all went pear shaped.

I agree nothing is impossible but geez you said the ARLC to tip in $100m! Even half of that is unrealistic even if we get $1b+

Personally i would rather see them direct money to the grassroots and solidying any expansion as a priority rather than stadia.

Seems a strange one. Subiaco can't have great viewing angles for league, half empty stadium one look to hot either compared to a close to full NIB

Well if we're stupid enough to be playing one of the most important games of the year in an AFL stadium, what's the harm in doing the same with this one.

When the AFL owns Etihad in a few years will people still be upfor going down there, paying rent to the AFL and playing there.

No true NSW fan would support an origin game being played in Melbourne because it becomes a Queensland home game.

The Origin games in Melbourne will be played at the MCG.

Damn I hope not. Apologies to northerners but RL fans in Melbourne would love to have a regular Origin fixture here, but surely not at the MCG. It's cavernous even for AFL/cricket and frankly would probably not sell out, especially if the game was played there every year.

Much better to hold the game at Etihad where they can move in the lower stands if they want to and pack it out every time.
