It's amazingly ugly.

Can we please get a stadium that looks attractive while accomodating it's crowd with a dry comfortable condition.

Bigger is not better.

You need the proposed city stadium rather than upgrades

Agreed mate but the state gov cant afford it so i think the next best thing would be to rebuild the western stand. But hey, they also got the highly prestigious commonwealth games to pay for.......

I dunno, i look at places like WIN and think they have heaps of character and history which makes me want to go there. The modern new build stadia are much of the same IMO

IS there any news on the Cowboys stadium situation?

Jenny Hill, who was behind the joint stadium/entertainment centre, recently won the mayoral election up here so the right people here in TVL have some power to make it happen but with the LNP winning office in the state election, they have stated they aren't too keen to fund it. When Jenny was doing to rounds to garner support and did some door knocking, I spoke to her for about 10 mins about the stadium thing, the one thing I emphasized to her was stadiums QLD need to be kept out of the the stadium management role because of the $$$ they charge all their tenants, she totally agreed and said if she had her way it will be run by the local council to keep the costs down to the cowboys. Fingers crossed if the CQ bid doesn't win, the $$$$ that has been somewhat earmarked for their stadium gets funneled up here, I think we deserve it.

Here you go sports fans, Sydney's about to get its very own Wembley

THIS is the grand vision of a sweeping overhaul of the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium that will rival London's Wembley. Promising to overhaul the SCG and its surrounds into a dream sports and entertainment venue, the new masterplan reveals a blueprint for the return of Sydney as the nation's sporting capital.
Not only does it seek to turn Allianz Stadium into Sydney's first all-weather sports venue with a new roof, the plan also proposes all car parking at Moore Park be underground.
There will also be a light rail platform and redesigned traffic access in a bid to end commuter chaos.
SCG Trust chief executive Jamie Barkley said that when the masterplan was complete, Sydney would have "the best cricket ground in the world".
Pitched as a "sporting oasis", the plan proposes to bring a new international sport and entertainment precinct to the doorstep of the CBD, with new plazas, ovals, cafes, restaurants and sports bars.

A new transport plan, with a light rail link to Moore Park as its centrepiece, also proposes two underground carparks.
Pedestrians will get relief from dodging traffic on South Dowling St and Anzac Pde with a new footbridge over both of those major roads and walkways to Paddington to help revive Oxford St.
With parking underground, the Moore Park fields will be transformed into new sports grounds and parks that the trust hopes will rival Olympic Park in Munich and Millennium Park in Chicago.
Mr Barkley said the carparks would ease jams and the light rail and more buses would mean people travelling to the games would be able to avoid the congestion.
"We want Sydneysiders out of their homes and having a great day out," he said.
"We are putting all that car parking underground (and Moore Park) will be returned as parkland and playing fields. They will be there for people to enjoy (and) we hope they will be compared to Hyde Park in London."
Mr Barkley said he hoped funding would be secured to enable the project to be completed by 2020.
Already, a $186 million refurbishment of the SCG stands is underway, to be ready by the 2014 Ashes.
Documents before the state government suggest refurbishing the Allianz Stadium will have an economic benefit of $120 million and warns that without the wider vision the 24-year-old stadium will become expensive to maintain and require significant upgrades to remain one of Sydney's premier venues.s for sports and concerts.
Allianz Stadium is home to more teams than any other in the country, including the Sydney Swans, Sydney Roosters, Sydney FC, the Waratahs, Western Tigers, Sydney 6ers and NSW Cricket a new home.
It has hosted major entertainment events, from Aida to rock star Robbie Williams.

Would be good to see a great rental deal to encourage nrl clubs there.

Watching Newcastle the other night that ground now looks brilliant and must be in the top 5 RL grounds in the country.

SCG Trust develops precinct long-term Master Plan

July 20, 2012
masterplan_large.jpg

The SCG Trust has developed a grand vision Master Plan which incorporates and links the Sydney Cricket Ground, Allianz Stadium and surrounding lands into a sports, entertainment and public recreational precinct within minutes of the Sydney CBD.
The Trust’s Master Plan is the long-term developmental blueprint which will see continuing generations of sports lovers and concert goers experience, in a high level of comfort, the passion, atmosphere and history of year-round live events at both the SCG and Allianz Stadium.
The Master Plan also incorporates a new landscape for improved community parklands and sporting fields which would see the new Moore Park rival great sporting parklands such as Hyde Park in London, Millennium Park in Chicago and Olympic Park on Munich.

Key features of the Master Plan are;
  • Completion of the new Northern Stand, currently under construction at the SCG
  • Redevelopment of the Churchill , Brewongle and O’Reilly Stands
  • A new public plaza between the SCG and Allianz Stadium which allows direct access between Paddington and Moore Park. The Plaza would become a live site, complete with video screens on event days, plus cafes and restaurants
  • An new extended or fully covered roof over Allianz Stadium
  • A new LED façade mesh for Allianz Stadium which would allow the exterior to change colours to suit the home team
  • A new transport infrastructure covering light rail, buses and a new network of pedestrian routes linking the precinct to the city, Central Railway Station and Paddington
  • Underground car parks on the current MP1 car park (1600 cars) and on the western side of Anzac Parade (2500 cars)
  • Parklands would be regenerated and playing fields on the western side of Anzac Parade would be established
SCG Trust Chief Executive, Jamie Barkley, said the Master Plan builds on the history and tradition of the SCG and its surrounds, including the Entertainment Quarter and the Hordern Pavilion.
“The precinct has been Sydney’s centre of sport and entertainment and for over 150 years and the Master Plan builds on this history,” said Mr Barkley.
“This Master Plan incorporates a whole of precinct approach which involves upgrading and improving facilities, transport, parking and pedestrian access.
“This Master Plan will benefit all of Sydney and the user-friendy transport, parking and pedestrian initiatives will reduce congestion for local communities and residents and provide positive benefits on a daily basis across the wider metropolitan transport network,” he added.

Interesting bit in an article about the Western Sydney Wanderers, who today announced they will be playing ALL 13 home games At Parra Stadium.
The highlighted bit suggests there might be some development plans in the pipeline for the ground.

Thursday, 26 July 2012 11:59 AM

The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers FC will officially call Parramatta Stadium home for their inaugural Hyundai A-League campaign, following an announcement by the NSW Minister for Sports and Recreation Hon Graham Annesely and NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers FC executive chairman Lyall Gorman.
The announcement of Parramatta Stadium as the NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers FC home ground comes after an overwhelming amount of support for the venue from the fans throughout the fan forums and online surveys conducted throughout Western Sydney during May and June.
“We have maintained from the very beginning that the future direction of our club will wherever possible be built for and by the people of Western Sydney,” Gorman said.
“The strong feedback from the in-depth consultation process we have undertaken through our various fan forums and surveys has told us strongly that Parramatta needed to be our home playing venue.
“We are equally excited about the strategic direction of Venues NSW and its future aspirations for the enhancement and development of Parramatta Stadium.
“We have committed to working together in a partnership model with the Management at the Stadium with a view to growing our membership base, crowds and corporate partners in the mutual interest of all parties and we are genuinely excited about the possibilities in that regard,” Gorman added.
NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley, was equally pleased to announce that the NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers FC will call Parramatta Stadium the Club’s home ground for the next five years.
“This announcement will create a huge buzz throughout Western Sydney as another sporting code has identified the region as a rich source of talent,” Annesley said.
“Football is the largest participation sport in the country with the Western Sydney Wanderers to play their inaugural A-League match against the Central Coast Mariners at Parramatta Stadium in early October.
“I congratulate Lyall Gorman and his team for the professional manner in which they have handled the negotiations and the NSW Government is looking forward to a very long and successful working relationship,” Annesley added.
NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers FC memberships will go on sale Wednesday, 1 August.

There was meant to be an enclosed northern stand built at Parra before Fitzgerald left as I recall. No idea what happened there. Realistically, it's fine the way it is and is more or less the best club ground in Sydney.

As for the stuff up above re: Allianz... That's more of a wish list that the trust wants. They've been spruiking it for years. A relative of mine who used to work there in a fairly high management position said that the initial plans to put a roof on were proposed in the late 90s, but due to the unique design of the stadium it'd cost almost as much as bulldozing it and building a new stadium!

Parra Stadium is old.
It needs some serious coin thrown at it to get it up to modern standards.

The blueprint is fine, but all the physical aspects of the ground need updating.

Depends on exactly what the plan is.

If the plan is to turn it into western Sydney's Suncorp Stadium, the purpose built Rugby League Mecca that the Olympic Stadium isn't, and the 35,000-40,000 capacity central shared venue that Oasis could have been, then perhaps it can be much more than fine.

Imagine two new main stands seating 15,000 each built to the most modern standards for public and corporate accommodation. Imagine in addition to all Eels home games, also half of all Tigers, Panthers and Bulldogs home games played there. And imagine a Sydney derby match every Sunday afternoon (including 12 derby games between co-tenants) in front of regular 25,000 plus crowds sitting right on top of the action.

That's correct. Sort of. It was a proposal for the Southern Stand not northern.
Gymnasium, functions rooms etc....
Was only going to add 2500 to capacity. The State Govt pledged $6 million towards it but for it to be feasible, it needed another $6 million to get off the ground from the Feds. Kevin '07 didn't cough up.

This is so true.
Once you are in you seat, the stadium is fine, unless you sit at the northern end. The advertising hoardings block the video screen so you see bugger all of it.
Once you get out of your seat and try and buy some hot chips, a beer or go to the toilet, it has some of the worst facilities in Sydney.
Queues are a disgrace for any crowd over 10 000.
It really has fallen behind the times very quickly and needs some major money spent on it. It really needs $60 million and to be turned into a 30 000 seater.

the northern end of Parra Stadium needs to be fixed slightly. You can't see the video screen (for the ''Video Ref Calls'' for tries). I'm not sure if the Southern end is good or no. The 2 main grandstand seems ok. Minor changes for this stage at Parra needed for now.

I really worry about the ticket prices if they redevelop it.

You would have to flatten Parra and rebuild to get what the above posters want, which is impossible.

Parra Stadium only got approval on the grounds that it was barely noticable from the outside and had minimum impact on its surrounds. It would never get permission to become a 40k RL mecca.
