Yes, simply resurrect the Oasis stadium proposal in Woodward park. Short walk from Liverpool station, near m5/m7. M5 exit just 500 meters away, right on the Hume highway.

agree 100%, that is a brilliant location between so many growing areas.

It's a good location for sure and plenty of parking in nearby streets. However, would the government really spend millions on a stadium that would render ANZ near useless? Not many union games at ANZ, only a couple of fumbleball games a year, the odd BBL game and the odd soccer game. Souffs could even move away if a better deal is negotiated with Allianz Stadium next contract.

Looks like Newcastle Stadium may get finished to be all seat stadium

It is now one of the venues for the Asian Cup in 2015 and to qualify as a venue it needs to all seat stadium.

I'm sure the location of the new stadium in western Sydney will be based more on which marginal electorate Barry O'Farrell wants to win over and less on where it is actually needed.

I reckon, if it happens, it will be at Liverpool (Oasis site) or a greenfield site around Blacktown (probably, where the International Olympic Area is, between Rooty Hill and Doonside) - they could probably build a train station there to be used when the venue is in use.

I'd be surprised if games at ANZ actually made any money though. club games drawing 10-20k, by the time you've taken into accounts costs, staffing, the fact most of the crowd will have got in on memberships and not be paying the SMC anything etc etc then I would think the income from most club games at ANZ would be minimal and not surprised if they lost money on most games.

ANZ will still become a massive white elephant. We all already know what a useless stadium it is but I doubt the government will want to spend money to replace something that already serves a (less than ideal) purpose.

what electorate is it in? unfortunately, this is really what it comes down to with regard to big projects like this. not the area's suitability.

if it's marginal, then a good candidate.

if it's in a safe electorate for either party, then look for another site.

them's the realities.

Logistically, it needn't take a single game from ANZ. If only four teams sign on - Wests, Penrith, Parramatta and Wanders - a new western venue is already as viable as AAMI Park in Melbourne. And given all the Sydney derby possibilities with reciprocal ticketing arrangements and the fact it's Rugby League heartland it'll probably draw a lot better than AAMI Park too. In the winter it needs one anchor tennant to play all 12 home games there and two other teams to play 6 games each. That'd give the venue a game every weekend without touching the existing Souths and Canterbury home games at ANZ.

Leigh.

Yeah but despite the fact it would technically be in Tigers' territory, Canterbury have a strong link to the area, I believe they wanted to build a leagues club in Liverpool a few years ago. If there was a suitable stadium built in Liverpool I think Canterbury would jump at the opportunity to move there.

They have to accpet what it is, a national stadium for rectangular sports. UK built Wembley for over 1billion pounds, not used for club games of any sort. They need to work a deal with C'wealth in relation to the fact it needs to be classified as a national rectangular stadium (as should MCG as a national oval) with them footing the bill for its maintaninence. It is not suitable for club games and they should face up to that fact.

No. There simply isn't enough international matches to support this. Unless all Wallabies, Socceroos and Kangaroo matches are played at ANZ only and not in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth. If MCG was for international fixtures only it would get used for a couple of cricket matches and that's it. What else would you do with the MCG for the rest of the year

Gees, I'd love a new stadium at Liverpool or Blacktown. Liverpool is central to Parramatta, Bankstown and Campbelltown, being only about 20 minutes drive (using google). Blacktown is better suited to Parra (20 min) and Penrith (20 min) but has good access from the M7 and M4.

Having a good rectangular facility with easy access via car or train, able to be shared by multiple clubs + soccer, should make it feasible.

If the government won't put up 100%, how long would the NRL have to save to share in the cost (with some help from FFA)?

I dont understand your point - ANZ is a oval stadium (one of its problems); I agree they should not be used for club games.

The new stand at NIB looks good.

Obviously not.

If that were the case, they wouldn't be playing there. Nobody is forcing Souths to play there instead of at the SFS. They must be making more money there.

They're being guaranteed income by ANZ stadium.

From memory the lease was much worse at the SFS.

If anyone isn't making money it's ANZ , not souths. But I'm sure with souths record in recent years they're doing ok out of it.
