But if a club has a shiny new stadium you still make posts wanting them to move to a stadium needing an upgrade

If you have a mind ... make it up

you literally have to read the second half of that sentence to get the point.

Ok, so they have this shiny new stadium right now. And in 10 years, when it's not new and the State Government wont rebuild?

And to think we could be playing at the SFS only 2.5 hrs drive away in Friday night traffic instead. But the SFS has a roof and .... oh wait

Dude, i didnt say anything about the Wollongong stadium. Hell, i live in the gong, move all the games to Wollongong us some more games.

That stadium is going to stay and its going to keep getting rebuilt because its a regional stadium not a suburban sydney stadium.

And you say 2 hours away. 2 hours away from what?

The Wollongong crowd, then move all te games to wollongong.

If you say its too far from kogarah, well not everyone travels to kogarah before going to the
SFS. the distance for alot of fans is going to be pretty similar, except the SFS is designed to have 40 000 people attend. The parking at suburban grounds becomes impossible with crowds above 5 000.

Balmain is a shocker and Parra is not much better but I have never had a problem parking within 1km of Kogarah, even with the crowd around 20,000. The train station at the top of Jubilee avenue gives better access than most grounds too.

I'm all for rational arguments regarding stadium location and use but trying to get a team and fans that are happy in there shiny new stadium to move to an old stadium without a proper roof many miles away with no nearby train station is not a convincing argument is it?

i am facepalming soo much right now.

I said they should move when kogarah is falling apart. give it 10 years, itll look like Brooky.

And i said they should move IF the sfs gets a roof. I acknowledge its a shiit hole right now, but if it was redeveloped into a quasi-Suncorp, then it is they best and eventually will b the only option.

(well that or move all games to WIN *fingers crossed*)

How good did the new stand at nib look? 100% improvement on the old stadium. Great view right on top of the action and great atmosphere under the roof. Now that is how to build a roof covered stand! Need to sort out the bars, beer ques were ridiculous but on the plus side the poshest stadium toilets I have ever been in!

There is phase2 plan but not costed yet and given the next big project is the $billion Perth stadium it won't happen for some time imo. Eventually the plan is to do something similiar on the West side (if they can get the current west stand off the heritage list), replace the shed end with a stand and roof the whole thing all the way around. Can't see it for quite a few years though until one of the teams is filling it every game.

Awesome atmosphere PR, and great stand indeed. Looks amazing the way it is built so as everyone is on top of the action. If they just replicated that all the way around it would definitely rival even Suncorp as the best stadium for RL in Australia to watch from.

Also what a great game of footy...what was the vibe like after the game by the fans and the media?

Great game and amazing atmosphere, we took a group of 8 to the game with a few AFL diehards. Before the game they were telling us how they prefer Union as they have been to a couple of Force games, afterwards they said they will never go to another union game again and were asking when the next NRL game will be in Perth! They couldn't believe how good a view we had from the new stand and that you saw everything (and we were halfway up the new stand). The higher elevation really allows you to see the gaps appear in the defence but at the same time the stand is built so as you are still right on top of the ground. We have the better product than other codes, just need to learn how to market it properly.

Watching the game from Perth the other night, like many others here, I was impressed with the stadium.

The way it looked on TV you would swear it would hold more then 20,000.

Seriously if the NRL don't put a team in Perth, and soon, then they are all idiots.

Vibe in the crowd started at the wa v nsw game and just built and built. The noise for the warriors coming from the shed end was amazing and the new stand kept the noise in on the east side. Media has been good but as always without it being sustained it will die off. The fact the dockers are building a bandwagon and had 34k at the same time just shows the strength of a potential fanbase for a well run Perth club.

http://m.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/gold-coast-makes-state-of-origin-bid-20130716-2q0s6.html

The Gold Coast is making a bold bid to host a 2017 State of Origin match in an effort to stamp itself as Queensland's sporting capital.
Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate has written to the NRL to try to secure the match at Metricon Stadium, as a test for the expanded and revamped facility ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
"Hosting the Commonwealth Games is no easy feat, it is the single largest event in southern hemisphere in a decade requiring significant upgrades to sporting infrastructure," he said.

"It would be prudent to do a dry run ahead of the games and what better than the State of Origin, since the Gold Coast is a border city with NSW."
Cr Tate denied the Gold Coast was trying to steal the game from Brisbane.
"At the end of the day it's State of Origin, not city of origin," he said.
"I think Brisbane has a long love affair with the Gold Coast. There were nine million day trips from Brisbane to the Gold Coast last year, so people are not too averse to making the trip."
Cr Tate said the Gold Coast hosting a State of Origin match made much more sense than it being played in Melbourne.
"Arguably Melbourne has a reputaion for being Australia’s sports capital and that's certainly a mantle we are trying to steal," he said.
"We are putting in place that sporting infrastructure now to rebrand ourselves as Australia’s emerging sports capital."
Cr Tate said he has asked to meet with NRL chiefs to try to secure a match before the April Commonwealth Games, amid reports the State of Origin schedule was locked in until 2017.
"We will be making strong representation to see if we can get a look-in any earlier,'' he said.
He said if that failed, the Gold Coast would still be pushing to host one of the lucrative matches beyond 2018.
"If we can attract games like an origin match we would take them whenever we could," he said.

Why would you take an origin to a stadium that fits 12k less only an hour away ?

I could see the point if it was say Townsville , but the gold coast ?! Never going to happen.

Saint George have the newest stands / stadiums in the NRL

Our last home games are only about 50% of capacity

Kogarah is 550 metres from a train station

we are the only team based in the South of Sydney

Yet people still make idiotic posts saying that moving hours away from Wollongong to a stadium that needs an upgrade and is far from a train station is a good idea....

$10m grant to help upgrade Brookvale Oval set to be announced today
Josh Massoud • The Daily Telegraph • August 06, 2013 12:00AM

MANLY'S future at Brookvale Oval is set to be boosted today, with the Rudd government expected to make a $10 million pledge toward the antiquated venue.
The Daily Telegraph has learned of plans for deputy prime minister Anthony Albanese to announce a $10 million grant at Brookvale Oval this afternoon.
The funding will be guaranteed, regardless of the result in next month's federal election. Brookvale's local member is Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, who has campaigned to upgrade the stadium at the past two elections.
But the Coalition has failed to win government, condemning Brookvale Oval to a time warp.
The funding will enable the construction of improved corporate facilities, giving Manly the opportunity to compete on level terms with rival NRL clubs.
It should also allay fears the Sea Eagles could be forced to leave their spiritual nest under the NSW government's centralised stadium plan.
Moving the majority of big NRL matches to Allianz or ANZ Stadium would most likely prove a disaster for Manly, whose fans are notoriously poor travellers beyond the northern beaches.

A bit more detail re Brookvale.

http://www.seaeagles.com.au/news-display/Funding-boost-for-Brookvale-Oval-project/81186

The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are pleased to announce that Brookvale Oval will receive funding from the Federal Government to contribute towards upgrading the historic home of the Club.
Deputy Prime Minister the Hon Anthony Albanese MP today announced funding of $10 million towards the construction of a new $30 million purpose-built Eastern grandstand at Brookvale Oval that will provide covered and tiered seating for 4,350 spectators as well as corporate hospitality, meeting and community facilities.
Once completed, this redevelopment will help ensure the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles continue to play its home games at Brookvale Oval - the home of the highly successful team since 1947.
Sea Eagles Chairman, Scott Penn, expressed his gratitude and delight at the contribution and support towards this $30 million dollar Stage One project.
"Our Brookvale Oval Committee has worked tirelessly to create a plan that suits the needs of both the community and the Sea Eagles. This funding will go a long way towards bringing our plans to fruition. This is great news for Sea Eagles members and fans."
The planned upgrade of Brookvale Oval, when fully completed, will not only support the Sea Eagles, our members and fans; it will also provide a range of community and educational benefits that are currently lacking in our region.
?
?This component of the plan has been driven by Tim Cleary, Principal of St Augustine's College, who came to us with the concept of bringing additional educational and sporting use at the venue outside of the NRL games played there.
The Sea Eagles would like to acknowledge the hard work and passion the Hon Kerry Sibraa AO, Club Co-Patron and Chairman of the Brookvale Oval committee, has contributed to this project. Kerry has been tireless in his lobbying to Government and, with the entire Brookvale Oval committee, has been instrumental in delivering these proposed plans.
Mr Sibraa also expressed his appreciation of the much needed funding. "I'm absolutely thrilled the Federal Government is supporting our plans to redevelop Brookvale Oval. This great Club and its fans deserve this support.
"Like everyone associated with the Club, I never want us to be in the position where we have to leave Brookvale and I sincerely thank the Deputy Prime Minister and the Government", Mr Sibraa said.
Sea Eagles General Manager, David Perry, added that the funding would help the Club provide increased undercover seating, in turn boosting crowds and membership growth, ensuring the opportunity to grow revenue and secure the club financially.
"When this project is completed, the facility will include a range of educational and community facilities which will not only benefit the Sea Eagles but the whole community", Perry said
