Future Super League Stadiums

I know that SL is not as big in the Uk as it is here, but we are projecting a 200% increase in crowds in about 10-15 years. Do those in the SL have any sort of similar goals?

sounds rather optimistic. Given the progress of crowds in the past decade, i'd be happy to see the average round attendance increase by 5,000 in the next 6-8 years

only 1 sydney team breaks the 20k average mark...and thats only just (bulldogs 20,670)

like it or lump it but you need to lose (relocate) a couple of teams at least..

i think the only way you'll hit 35,000 is if you cut the number of sydney teams

Rubbish, it doesn't work like that.

Norths and Manly use to average 12-15,000 each, why don't Manly now average 24-30,000?

Sydney losing clubs is to the detriment of the game, we should be making these clubs stronger not cutting them as they bring more to the game by having them there. Remember we cut Souths once before, that was a great idea..................

Rather than cut teams i think the NRL needs to cut stadiums.

If it doesn't have a roof and has a grass bank for a stand then it should be banned from the comp. No talk about tradition etc.

Its 2011 not 1911 for crying out loud.

Also change the game to summer rugby. The amount of times a bit of rain is used as an excuse for poor crowds is just crazy.

Back on the thread its good to see Saints and Salford stadiums looking good. Some nice stadiums in the North West now. Only Wigan don't have there own purpose built modern stadium but they seem happy enough at the DW so its all good. :D

:

because norths fans won't support manly maybe..

the example i've used in the past is cronulla

move the NRL team to adelaide/perth but keep the NYC & NSW cup teams @ toyota park as cronulla..

the new adelaide/perth sharks would attract new fans in adelaide or perth as well as,you'd hope, being able to count on the 8-10k cronulla diehards supporting the club when the team plays in sydney every few weeks

or is that fanciful thinking??

do or did south melbourne AFL fans support sydney swans?? i know when sydney won the grand final a few years ago (2005?) they paid tribute to "bloods" fans....did that tempt former south melbourne fans into supporting sydney when playing in melbourne?

your stadium cutting plan is stupid. Imagine asking West Ham to play at Emirates. That is the equivelant of shifting Manly to the SFS or ANZ. Sydney is very geographically fragmented - you simply can't lump all the teams into the one stadium, no one would go. Eg, St George's crowds when playing at ANZ.

Are you aware that it rains more in the Summer months here than in Winter, particularily Febuary-March? The further north you go the worse it gets, as there is a wet and dry season in the tropics.

Also, the main TV ratings period in Australia runs from March to October - if we shifted to summer we would get less money, even if the ratings were the same.

The Summer months are for cricket and sports that can't compete - in Australia, thats soccer, and maybe Rugby Union (with its weird Feb-July season)

don't like the look of salfords new place...gonna be pretty souless imo

I would be a bit concerned if i was a Salford fan. Yes they get a new stadium but it is not easy to get to for the majority of Salford fans who live in walking distance from the willows. Its probably easier for away fans to get there than the home ones!

Also its built next to a sewage works so it smells worse than Widnes.

Still, people with more knowledge than me have done the maths and decided this is for the best so we will see.

Well i wasn't ware about weather patterns in Aus so keep it winter then.

The point wasn't just about moving stadiums, but if a team for example Manly (last week was stupid, how you going to attract fans if they all need to shelter under a mac together!) who have a ground from a local council.

The NRL say to council, if you want to keep live rugby you need to invest in at least basic facilities or your team will have to move. It may focus people into sorting it out. If cr*py towns in the North of England can all have stadiums, to see the "premier" comp looking like something out of the 1930's is stupid.

If council say no then the local population can remember that next election day.

The three smaller stands certainly aren't going to keep the crowd noise in, especially with those big open corners, but considering it's only a 12,000 seater I think it's looking very professional.

With these new stadiums the Superleague isn't going to recognise itself soon.

As annoying as it may seem the addition of all those lovely clean and professional corporate seats may be the best thing to happen to a lot of these clubs in a fair while with much money to be earnt from the corporate service sector. Clubs will be more profitable and the professional aura the clean and modern stadiums will give off should boost the whole League.

And then of course there's the modern spectator stuff. When you're competing against the cinema etc you need all the mod cons that people take for granted nowadays and that includes decent seats, cover from the elements and a decent view regardless of the ticket. This has got to help in getting people back to the footy on a regular basis.

Would English/Welsh/French supporters credit this wave of facility upgrades to a reasonably successful franchising system that is taking the game in the right direction or is franchising still loathed regardless?
