I agree that since Brown, the Dragons have been atrocious at bringing through young players. But the very well founded idea is that it's bad idea to bring in young players, especially young forwards too quickly. Would it have done Host's confidence any good to have been out there yesterday? Do you think he could have changed the result? If he were a 5/8, 1/2 or hooker I would also be on the brink of a coronary and I agree he should have been brought in sooner. Both he and Leilua but as things stand, leaving him out in favor of Matthews or LAM or Leilua was the correct decision. Even in hindsight.
Next year I expect he will be a regular, week in week out, first-grader.
Absolutely ridiculous comment.
The season is done and dusted and has been for weeks if you are a realist.
This is exactly the right time to blood young players because if they f**k up it actually has no real impact on the club and it gives us precious time to sit and show these youngsters where they went wrong (if in fact they do).
Its actually better than anything you can do pre-season.
You then state next year he will be a regular first grader, so you somehow think 3 weeks more in the lower grades this year will prepare him for that.
As I said before you have NFI and it's the ongoing stupid philosophy like yours that holds this club back.
Do you think the Panthers would be going as well as they are if they had continued to hold Cartwright and Cleary back.
You have asked the question do I think he could have changed the result and that epitomises the dysfunctional nature of your arguement.
It was actually never about the result it was about a pathway for a young player and I would be happy to lose all 3 games that were left provided it was the inspiration for young players to want to play 1st grade and give them the incentive to work hard in the off season because they had a taste of it.

So who out of LAM, Matthews or Lailua would you have left out for Host yesterday? As I said, if he were a 5/8, halfback or hooker, he surely would have been the first player chosen. But as he isn't I think it was the right decision to go with him or Lailua but not both.

Oh please do try and get with the programme.
To suggest Leilua to me is totally ridiculous as I am saying blood the young guys and you offer him up as a substitute for Host???????
You then restrict it to LAM and Matthews and leave out either Rein or Marketo, Cooper (yes Cooper after all he is gong back to England in 2 weeks) so as I said you have NFI.
You then suggest that a young half or 5/8 would be you first choice so what is different?
Let me tell you the young forwards are all 100 - 105 kgs plus with many already bigger than Marketo, Thompson, De Belin.
Our season was effectively over, we were playing the 15th team on the ladder who had been belted from 1 end of the season to the other, if that is not a good time to blood young blokes there never will be.
You seem to be challenged at the very thought of trying 2 young players at once.
For heavens sake, ask them what they would want to do and you can bet your bottom dollar it won't be play Cutters or under 20's.
Are you sure you are not a selector or part of our pathway team because you certainly qualify for it.

Firstly you must settle down a little. I'm worried you are going to have a coronary.

Let me address your points calmly point by point.

That's true. I forgot about Cooper but while the team was still a chance of making the semis, no point in dropping Cooper. Even now there isn't unless his form warrants it. Gus Gould was saying yesterday every team which is out of finals contention wants to finish the year well. Host will get chances. This year or in the trails next year.

As for Rein and Marketo, so you would have had one of those two playing hooker for 80min?

The difference is quite large actually. The current 5/8 is absolute s**t. The current backrow and front row is quite strong and has depth. I believe JDB is over 105kg and Thomson right about there but what is the relevance? You would have dropped Thompson or JDB for Host?

There is not only no problem, but a good thing to blood more than 1 young layer at a time if they are covering a a specific weakness. It seems to me the 1 place the team isn't weak in is back and front rowers. A good (relatively big) young winger, centre, fullback (so Duges can move to centre) and especially a 5/8, halfback or hooker would be a god send about now.

As for a back rower or front rower, I'm comfortable to go with the coaching staff as to whether he plays in the trials next season or is tried out along with Leilua in the final 2 games of this year.

I agree with Old Timer Milne had 2 or 3 running at him all night to put Mathews in there is a joke as we needed points. I would have left Mathews out for Host. Its time to give the young ones a go or we will lose them.

Mcgregors takes the easy way out to blame one of the young fellows for missing tackles as he shit scared to tell one of the established players your finished.

Lets stick to the subject matter and forget about the backs.
I originally posted how would Host be feeling about getting picked, left on the bench, picked and play, picked left on the bench, picked and played and now not picked and Leilua gets a run
So the entire post is about Host and the forwards.
You contest there is no room for him and I say Marketo, Matthews, Cooper or Rein at least could be sacrificed for Host.
You then question would I have Marketo or Rein playing 80 minutes well the current methodology with our hookers is really working well isn't it so would you persist with that?
If need be I would punt both and play Mc Crone at hooker for the rest of the year if it meant getting Host into the team.
You made an inference re size and I merely pointed out Host is bigger than De Belin and Thompson and you question that by all means look it up.
Your then question would I drop either De Belin or Thompson obviously looking to rekindle an old argument re De Belin.
I never said I would drop either of them, you alone introduced that to the conversation hoping to get a particular response.
You then say you are happy to go with the coaching staff re when Host plays which is the precise point I have made many times which you fail to comprehend
The coaching staff have got not idea of when or how to do anything let alone incentive and motivate young players and you would be happy with what they do?
So that indicates to me you have even less idea than them and if they have no idea therefore you must have NFI.
By the way your suggestion that we had a chance of making the semis as a reason for not picking Host is just farcical as is your contention that our forward pack is going OK and not a weakness.

Totally agree that is exactly what he does . I noticed Dugan didn't get hooked after being run over a few times . And Benji can race up miss tackles , run around in circles , throw insane passes , kick the ball anywhere but where it should be kicked and stay on for the full 80 mins .

For the last 2 games I agree Cooper Rein Marketo Mathews should go . As for Nightingale he deserves the respect to play the last 2 games, after that he needs the tap on the shoulder to retire.

I just want to get that good feeling back when you know your team's coach knows what he is doing and his decisions make sense, both in selection and in-game bench management.
