I'd suggest in many respects mentality can be something as simple as just 'flicking a switch'. Finding how to flck the switch is the hard part.

Our mentality should actually get a boost from the win yesterday, but it's still fragile. We've played without confidence for 3 weeks and most of yesterday. Just winning can create a stronger mentality in itself...the Dragons are the prime example.

I would suggest that we actually played WITH confidence for most of yesterday.
We had the confidence to go wide on the first set (and score), we then had the confidence to keep doing it down both sides of the field despite some really shitty execution at times.

At no time did I see us lacking in confidence yesterday to be honest.

Sorry Lemon boy, my mistake.

It must have been someone else that specifically compared us to four teams that are likely Top 4. It all blends into one big whine-fest after all.

P.S. Lemons suck.

All good homie!

It surprises me you don't like Lemons though you come off as a bit of a sour merkin.

The Panthers have got a ridiculous amount of confidence to go wide early and then go wide again...doesn't mean they've got the confidence to execute their plays effectively.

Poor execution, like players being in front of the player when he needs to be behind and not throwing passes forward is part of that confidence. I dare say if we had that confidence we would have blown the Tigers away early.

And who was the last NRL Premiership winner with that attitude?
every premiership winner there has ever been I would imagine.
Or if you like in chipmunk fashion who was the last premiership winner without that attitude?

I bet you if you asked the coach of the last 10 NRL Premierships what was more important they would tell you that it's Defence first, Attack second.

You will always stop more tries than you'll score.

Poor execution is poor execution. What makes you think it was a result of poor confidence and not just purely a case of poor execution?

Consistent execution is all about confidence. If you have got great confidence that you will execute something you will just make it happen. If that confidence is not there that it won't happen consistently

The Storm have enormous confidence that they will control the play the ball area more times than not and they just get it done. The Sharks have enormous confidence in their goal line defence through their line speed that they're executing to perfection. No one can attack their line at the moment they've got enormous confidence.

The Dragons are probably the best example of execution through confidence. They're playing so confidently that they're execution of their play seems effortless at the moment. Whether this confidence remains for them only time will tell.

wouldnt you still have to score more tries than the opposition to win?

You stop the tries, you actually being able to score the tries will take care of itself.
so you don't think you need to score more tries than the opposition to win?

I wonder why teams highly value halves if stopping tries will lead to scoring tries, just play your best 17 defenders

Although some of the best attacking halves never make it out of the lower grades because their defence isn't good enough.

You don't need to score any tries if you don't let any in. A penalty goal or a field goal will suffice.

Can't agree mate. You can have all the confidence in the world but if you lack skill then your execution will be poor. Also, if you happen to meet a team that is controlling the ruck and in your face you can be confident and skilled but your execution could still be poor.

More factors at play than no confidence = bad execution; confidence = good execution.
