There was so much in that battle scene that sets it apart from other shows/movies. John Snows 'well f**k' moment where he removes his sheath and gets ready for battle is awesome, and the shots of him facing the oncoming army were incredible.
The absolute carnage of the cavalry was so unique. It wasn't just people getting stabbed then they were about to swing their own swords, they were literally getting a wiped-the-f**k-out by horses, then those horses were getting bowled over by other horses, all the while arrows getting sunk into everyone and lances getting smashed on bodies. Epic.
Personally, I thought the visions of the Knights of the Vale cutting through the Bolton Army was a great touch. Despite the parallels that it drew to Helm's Deep, it was so different. Helms Deep was like waves on people crashing on a rock, the armies came together and fought. The KotV literally cut through the Bolton army. It was so f**king rad to watch.
