Holy shit, that ep was cool
Not sure it was perfect, some things annoyed me and will do so more as it all settles but holy f**k

Theon's had a hard road, a lot of it his own making but all ends up...

Holy f**k - the suspense they created was incredible
My heart beating fast in some scenes

Arya going for the kill was a great choice, Jon would've been too obvious

But when you don't see her for 10 mins and Beric saves her (thereby serving his purpose to preserve her) and Melisandre telling her 'what do we say to death' Not today" it was inevitable

She was basically Thanos and snapped the whole NK army out of existence

Yes but was the great military plan of the operation? Briane talked about holding the left and pushing them back but the Dohraki just charged into the darkness without anyone really setting any secondary motion into action. Did they think the Dothraki might be enough?

It was

D&D talked talked about it after the episode - the plan was to wait for the NK to show himself and then take him on with 2 dragons, as soon as Dany saw the Dothraki were getting slaughtered she jumped on the Drogon, Jon tried to stop her so they can stick to the plan

Basically most of the Dothraki died in in the first minute of battle

that would have been more enjoyable if the whole thing wasn't filmed in the dark, so hard to see what happens in some of those battle scenes

I don’t know if you watched it on Fox or not but their stream was f*cking sh*thouse. The ghosting was so bad I had no idea what was going on in the Dragon scenes. Will obtain another copy and watch again later

I watched in in full HD, dark af

Couldn’t see shit for most of it, hard to appreciate character deaths when you can’t even see who it was that died.

It was obvious Arya was going to be involved in the end because she disappeared, but I’m not sure where she was supposed to have come from? Did she jump from the tree or something?

I did appreciate the poetic ending with the dagger that started it all killing the night king, which is presumably why Branden gave her the dagger to begin with.

The scene with dondarrion didn’t make sense to me, well from what I could actually see anyway, he blocked the hall so the others could get away and then he was somehow first through the door?

So those crypts, not that safe.

lol

Now, were they dead Starks who were re-animated by the NK or just the regular wights who dug through the walls?

Getting the drop on the white walkers and night king after being trained in stealth by the faceless men. Dropping that knife and catching it again in such a fluid motion - like a water dancer, you might say - then stabbing him right where the Hound showed her it was.

So many foreshadowed payoffs in a few moments.

My favourite part of the episode is all the neckbeards crying Mary Sue About Arya now.

They said they had known for 3 years Arya was the one who would kill the NK, the scene was done perfectly

Whaaa?? Even before daddy Stark got his head lopped off she was training for this moment. It's been what? 8 seasons? What's that in GOT time? How earned does something need to be?

Can't please everyone I guess.

Will be interesting to see where we go from here. I liked it but also thought it to be a little anticlimactic to see the NK go out with 3 eps to go when they've spent 7 seasons slow burning this army into an unstoppable force. Really hoping it finishes swith some twists and turns (and glorious death) to bring us home strong.

.....Woof, what a ride.

So the casualty list stands at:

Edd
Beric
Jorah
Lyanna Mormont
Theon
Melisandre
Samwell? (he wasn't shown to be alive post battle, but he probably is)
Majority of the Unsullied army
Vast majority of the Dothraki
Ghost? (considering how he has literally been a "ghost" for the better part of 3 seasons, I think he might be dead off screen)
Unknown number of Wildlings
Night King and his army wiped out

I have to say I echo the majority of peoples opinions here. The episode was very entertaining while simulataneously being somewhat underwhelming. I am legit more surprised about who survived rather than who died. Tormund, Gendry, Greyworm, Rhaegal the Dragon, Davos, Brienne and Podrick all could have died for the sake of the episodes payoff and would have had very little if any tangible effect on how the rest of the season plays out. Apart from a couple of salad dressing scenes similar to Tormund and the Giants Milk and Pod singing, I would bet anything that the role of all these characters from this point on will be little more than foot soldiers while the likes of Jon, Dany, Cersei and the Starks take center stage for the final dance.

Arya killing the Night King.....Well yeah alright, the use of the special hand swap move she showed Brienne last season was pretty cool, but I feel it could've been done better, like Arya having taken the face of one of the Wight Walkers and was hiding in plain sight amongst the Night Kings army waiting to strike. I feel that would've been a lot more of a "Ahhhhh yes of course" moment then Arya just lunging in.

I have to admit I thought Melisandre's arc worked out better than I thought it would. Linking the Arya > Night King moment up with the prophecy she told Arya about the eyes she will close many seasons ago was a great way to tie off the string. The scene where Melisandre died was also a great way to do it, almost as if she was embracing death like a breath of fresh air after waiting perhaps centuries to fulfill her goal.

Lyanna's death, yeah okay it was very fan service, but I think you'll find if her death was a lot more low key, like suddenly she dropped the tough child persona she had run with for so long and instead was stabbed or eaten while cowering in some corner, people would have been more pissed off. Instead she stabbed an undead giant in the eye while having her insides destroyed in a death grip. An awesome character deserves an awesome send off.

Biggest disappointments for me, were the Dothraki being swept away so quickly and the nature of Theon's death. By following up the amazing scene of Melisandre lighting their swords on fire with such a limp dick out of sight massacre after building up the Dothraki as this big deadly force of horse riders I think was a very cheap out. Also what's with them just charging in head on like that? They're f**king Light Cavalry, Where are the tactics? I mean comeon. As for Theon, well his death was just stupid heroics for the sake of stupid heroics. Charging the Night King like that with a spear, what did he think was gonna happen? Another character arc seemingly brushed aside with a piss poor ending.

I'm interested to see how the forces in the North recover from this. They still have 2 Dragons yes, but judging by how the battle played out, their armies have been all but decimated. They had better hope their army recruiters have silver tongues, because Cersei's army is rested and reinforced. Plus she still has the trump card of the wildfire nuke hidden under Kings Landing.

A solid 7/10 from me. A decent episode which I enjoyed, but certainly a lot more they could have done better. Also how about the f**king mess that has to be cleaned up afterwards? There has to be close to a million bodies littered in and around Winterfell. Ah but don't worry, they have them all piled up on the pyre within days lol.

Bruh... Theon was surrounded by wights, the NK and his dudes, and no one f**king else, it was widely expressed at the pre-battle plan that the aim was to kill the NK, which would end it all.... he was 1 vs an army and had a direct line at the NK, it made perfect sense that despite the odds, he shot his shot.
What else you gonna do? Stand there by Bran's side and wait for the f**king army to just snuff you out?

You could have some complaints about the ep, but the idea of Theon charging the NK 1 v 10,000 and just having his "f**k it, i ran from Euron but not this time" moment, was actually fine, and logically it was literally his best shot at survival

That is a f**king dumb complaint to have. haha

Lady Mormont (if not her, Jorah)
Grey Worm
Brienne
Beric Dondarrion
Theon

My top 5 likely deaths in episode 3.

3/5 ain't bad... genuinely surprised Grey Worm made it, but I suppose Daenarys needs a military leader.

Potentially the greatest episode of TV ever aired, but completely let down by the ridiculous darkness and shakey camera over the first hour of the show that made it not only difficult to follow, but impossible to buy into any of the action or suspense.

The last 10-15 minutes being such an epic, suspenseful build up saved it from being a let down. Some incredible story going on, great payoffs to some past foreshadowing and a totally appropriate, yet not completely predictable, climax.

Good bar to be set for the final 3 episodes, but due to the whole fact that it was so damn difficult to follow, it was a bit underwhelming.

I obtained a FHD copy and just finished watching it. Massive difference compared to the tripe that Foxtel aired. I actually liked the darkness in the outdoor scenes but don’t think it worked for the scenes inside the castle.

Re the Dothraki
I've seen some criticism of this, and i **** love that whole thing... like melisandre rocking up, and lighting up those arakh's and then those dude's charging in, and you're like "Alright, let's **** go! The dead gonna get it!" and they just snuffed out like it aint no thing and you're like "Ya... wait, woah. Really? they gone? Oh **** this aint good"

i think that was probably my favourite part.

Theon killed a lot of wights protecting Bran
As Bran said, everything he did led to that moment so he was critical

Arya can’t take a face of a white walker, once they die they shatter

I was concentrating so hard to try and follow what the f**k was actually happening in the battle scene that I legit got eye strain and had to stop watching for 20 minutes.

I just bought a new UHD tv last week and I was cursing the thing thinking that it was the issue.

Glad I’m not the only one but just can’t believe one of the most anticipated episodes of any television show ever was filmed like that and allowed to go to air, surely they must have known the backlash they would cop.

Arya has always been my fave so glad she did the deed and loved all the tie ins but cant help but feel a bit flat that after 7 seasons of build up it just all ended so quick... I’m hoping their is still some twist to come from all of it.

Red Woman made the episode, I would do nasty things to that lady.

That was f**king awesome.

Can confirm the download on Foxtel is way better than the stream I recorded while at work. Thought my 4K tv was f**king up it was that hard to watch.

Now can we just send aria to slit Cersei’s throat and be done with it! Haha
