The welsh winger from St. Helens is a good player, could make the squad.
If they choose heritage players there might be a couple.

Yep this tome is the why IMO they should have had a Lions Tour but called it England, AND organised mroe tests for the other nations.

In all honesty it will be an England team with Regan Grace the token non Englishman.

There isn't any Welsh,Scots or Irish players that make the squad on merit..that's why there's gonna be quota players..2 or 3 players from each nation then the England squad..

What about the "federation cup" style tournament or re-do of the four nations that had been mooted, is this the end of tournament footy for the tier 1 nations outside of the world cup? What will england's involvement be with the Euro championship be? And likewise the pacific nations+AUS+NZ? SO many question's not least what they plan to do to promote and get traction/momentum for the NA world cup in only 7 years!

edit: Just noticing that the schedule doesn't have a major event in 2023??

Looks like England will have nothing to do with the Euro Cup and likewise Australia with the Pacific Cup. NZ will likely be involved in a Pacific tournament in 2020, no idea what they will do for 2019 though.

Ben Flower, Regan Grace, Liam Finn, Kyle Amor, Matty Russell? All pretty solid first graders.

One problem is 1 or 2 of Ireland, Scotland & Wales will be playing in World Cup qualifiers at the same time.

Could England and Australia play the winner of the Euro/Pacific Championships?

None of the would make the England team,if they where English,so why select them for GB?

And bingo...

So this GB team will be worse than the England team?

Isn’t the whole point (like the British Irish lions in union) is that they are undefeatable.
They’re gonna suck...

Rumour is that if GB select a 30 man squad.....21 of them would be from the England team & 9 from Wales,Scotland & Ireland (3+3+3)..

The starting GB 17 ,if everyone is fit, will be exactly the same as the England 17..
And considering there's not a single "British" welsh,Scots or irishman that would break into a England squad...so yeah a GB quota squad will not be as strong as a England squad..

Then there's this tricky question...Wales,Scotland & Ireland's best players are Australians....does anyone wanna see Australians representing Great Britain against Australia....kinda defeats the whole point doesn't it?

And some of us have been pointing this out for 10 god damn years!

Pfft no they aren't. Each of them only had 2-3 Australians in their squads for the World Cup last year and they were nowhere near their best players.

The only Australian who would walk in to the GB team after representing Ireland, Scotland or Wales in the past would be Tyson Frizell. And no way would he be playing.

Not to mention I don't know what the difference is between Australians representing England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales against Australia or Australians representing Great Britain against Australia. It's the same thing.

OK then....none of them, whether they be Australian or English with Welsh,Scots or Irish heritage are good enough to displace any of the England players.....so why play as GB?

I think some people are stuck in the past and have fond memories of when GB could call on genuine international class welsh players like Phil ford, John deveraux, Alan Bateman and Anthony Sullivan etc. As well as true world class welsh players like Jonathan Davies, isetyn harris, Scott Gibbs and Scott quinnell.

Gibbs and quinnell should have played for GB and would walk into a GB side today. phil Ford is very underrated and Harris father is welsh isn’t he?

Bottom line is when RU went professional GB became redundant as the best welsh players could stay in union and earn decent money.

Iestyns grandad signed for oldham from Welsh RU...dunno whether he brought iestyns dad with him or whether he was born up here?

Gibbs should have played for GB but Quinnell wasn't that good..

And GB is just as redundant today as it was 20 years ago..

Lachlan Coote's not even playing NRL at the moment so how shit are your fullbacks? Aitken maybe but even then you'd have to be pretty short at centres the way he is playing at the moment.

Since union went professional in 1995 and the welsh talent crossing the divide dried up GB has become obsolete.
