GB Tour on for 2019

There's a BBC documentary on up here at the min about Welsh rugby code breakers..it's amazingly insightful.

Caught the tailend of this doco when in Manchester mid September. Looked very interesting. Some great interviews with the Welsh lads who made the move to RL . The Rugby Code Breakers i think was the title. Will have to find it online.

Re the GB Lions tour .....I think we have moved on from using that moniker at the elite level. Possibly still have relevance at schoolboy, University or Amateur levels where there is a stronger possibility of representation across GB and I.

Lucky enough to be of an age to have been around to witness the GB tours of the past but a lot has changed since the 1992 Tour. Tours downunder were great for people in the regional areas as they could see local lads taking on the poms. That is now not a realistic possibility so takes away a lot of interest.

Personally Id rather see a BARLA rep team come out and play every four years.

LOL, what!?

That post basically said that we should wait to see if those rumors are true and if they are true the NRL's reasons why they don't want to take part before you lot pull out the pitch forks.
I then went on to speculate that if the rumors are true that in some form money will be at the root of the cause as to why the NRL aren't interested, cause it literally always is...

I didn't even give an opinion as to whether or not the NRL or 'Australia' were in the right or wrong or whether they were being reasonable at all, mainly cause we don't know what is going on or even whether or not these rumors are true at all...

So if you think that middle of the road wait for the facts approach is "one-eyed" then you either don't know what one-eyed is or you are projecting!

but when you actually look into it and go down to the source of the issue it'll be cause of the money! It'll be cause of the financial risk, the potential profit margin, or cause the RFL expects the NRL to help fund/organise it when realistically they were happy for the Roos to participate but weren't really interested in it as a commercial venture.

You clearly have zero idea of how tours are funded & organised...

All tours,by the big 3,are funded by the money generated by the tour..

Nz tour here next month will have all travel & accommodation paid for them as well as taking a cut of the ticket revenue...

So if the ARLC can't make a 3 test series profitable for both parties then that says it all about the ARLC really...nothing to do with the RFL

Even IF GB don't play Australia,

Can we get an announcement soon? Dates? GB Union/League tours are only ever fun when there is a large contingent of UK fans in the country. These games cant be announced in April/May - it wont be enough time for people to save money/fly over etc.

If clowns wanna talk about the financial viability of a test series....think about this....over 3 games the Aussie's will have to pay out $1m in player payments alone...

Am I the only one who thought the tri-nations/4nations was a fantastic concept held both in the U.K. and down under and that it was a crazy idea getting rid of it??

Just think how huge a 4nations tournament held down under would have been with England, NZ, Australia and Tonga in it. Games held at Eden Park, suncorp, AAMI stadium, Perth and Christchurch etc.

If held right now, it would be massive. Four teams, all very competitive, Australia rebuilding after Slater, Thurston, Cronk & Smith. There is the potential for some very unpredictable results and very big crowds.

I do understand how they are funded and organised, I also understand that the funding and organising of tours has no bearing on whether or not the NRL is concerned about this particular tour's "financial risk, the potential profit margin, or cause the RFL expects the NRL to help fund/organise it when realistically they were happy for the Roos to participate but weren't really interested in it as a commercial venture".

If it is true that the NRL doesn't want to take part in the tour then I'd bet anything that this is the crux of the issue, the NRL were happy to participate in the tour but didn't want to organise it or carry any of the financial risk, i.e. they were happy for the RFL to send across the Lions to play the Roos, but only if the RFL organised it and funded it, but because it's being held in Australia the RFL (like you) expects the NRL to organise it (or at least part of it) so the NRL told them to piss off, which would also explain why they tried to get it changed so that it'd be the Roos touring England playing Britain earlier in the year when Beattie announced his international plan (or whatever they called it) .

If that is the case then you can't really blame the NRL cause unless I'm mistaken they didn't propose the tour or even necessarily want the tour, and it's the RFL that was pushing for the tour to go ahead, so realistically expecting the NRL to do anything other than just front up a team for an event that they weren't really interested in in the first place is pretty unreasonable.

Poms place blame on the NRL all the time, but have nothing to show for it playing wise. Is it wise for the British to run the game when they are in poor state of affairs domestically?

Best solution is have the origin teams play England, the Qld and NSWelshmen fans are state mad about their teams.

Qld vs NSW would fill wembley ten times over.

Because Qld and NSW play great football why wouldn't you think that, hence my saying that it would sellout Wembley ten times over.

Was that hard for you to understand?
Oh dear. You're wasted on here. There must be a host of clubs looking for a marketing manager beating a path to your door.

Record speaks for itself when Origin is mentioned, look at the numbers. Enjoy England being anonymous only coming after four years then twiddling back into obscurity.

Would be glad if i got a marketing manager job for the NRL as they at least have money to make shit happen not like the whingers from the northern hemisphere. They talk but got no power to make it work.
