Win on Saturday and we secure the best season since 1959. Concede 6 or less and we finish with the best defensive record of any side in the NRL era per game (except two of the illegal Storm seasons). We’d also equal the longest legal winning streak since 75.

Even if we had been the Storm/Chooks last year rather than a fringe basket case, Ivan would get Coach of the Year. Our regular season has been one for the books.

It has been an unexpected journey that not too many predicted. Certainly not me anyway.

I so hope our best is yet to come, even if there are the real tough games ahead.

Regardless of what lays ahead, and there may be disappointments, it has been an incredible and highly enjoyable journey culminating in a minor premiership.

What's your thought on this proposal?

The NRL could look very different next year if they approve Melbourne Storm chief executive Dave Donaghy’s idea to revamp the finals series.

Donaghy has taken inspiration from the NFL and suggests that the NRL should incorporate a wildcard weekend.

“I think reassessing the merits of a wildcard weekend makes sense for a league who’s shown themselves to be really progressive,” Donaghy told The Daily Telegraph.

“This is a great opportunity to learn and to improve, if we feel it is in the best interests of the game.

“I feel in this case there’s merit in seeing how we can improve on what’s in front of us this weekend.”

If the wildcard round were to take place this weekend it would see South Sydney (7th) take on Wests Tigers (10th) and Sharks (8th) take on ninth place Gold Coast Titans, instead of the league heading into their 20th round.

It could also give Manly (11th), New Zealand Warriors (12th), and St George Illawarra Dragons (13th) a chance to play in the supposed wildcard round but they would rely on results to go their way.

Donaghy said it will prolong the interest in the sport nearing the final stages of the season.

“It just keeps fans engaged longer and you have less dead-rubbers,” he said.
How about we just make the finals the top 16 teams.

Just on the Craig Gower Dally M I so hope he gets presented with his just reward not this Covid Season when it will be virtual, but next season when hopefully things are back to normal.

He deserves to be presented with his just reward in a full house at Star City or perhaps James Packers new Barangaroo Casino. Either way he deserves it in a full house and not some ‘facetime’ environment or whatever they use they days.
Great point.

Records for 15 wins in a row:

15 games Cronulla Mar 28th, 2016 - vs. Melbourne to Jul 24th, 2016 - vs. Newcastle
15 games Melbourne Aug 4th, 2012 - vs. Penrith to Apr 25th, 2013 - vs. Warriors
15 games Manly Warringah Mar 12th, 1995 - vs. South Sydney to Jul 9th, 1995 - vs. Parramatta
15 games South Sydney May 2nd, 1925 - vs. Balmain to May 8th, 1926 - vs. North Sydney

The 1975 record you mention is 19 successive wins by Easts. Two more wins, and we get into the top 3.

Holbrook and Payton have both done a fine job.
Coach of the year has to go to the coach who's team has only (so far) lost 1 match all year.
Winning 14 games on the trot, (hopefully more) is a mighty effort. No other club can claim that record this year. And the minor premiership too ;)

Agreed.

Regardless of what the ultimate outcome occurs with this season, the minor premiership is a hard-earned reward for a consistent season and is something that can’t be taken away from us.

More than Newcastle, us or Warriors under Payten?

Considering who he has signed I'd say yes. Also without him they win the spoon again.

As did Cleary after the shocking start to the season, we won 7 in a row and finishing one win out of the top 8 after being on the bottom of the ladder. That is the comparison I'm making.

Yes but we had those losses because of him. Previous year we played finals. Holbrook fixed the mess left by previous coaches.

Yeah it would be pretty hard to argue against Ivan getting it this year. It's been a record breaking season.
