Watched the Manly vs Newcastle 95' game yesterday. The hit of Harrigan on Caroll was a classic. Sorted out quickly and correctly by one referee.
If that was today with two referees and the bunker it would have stopped the game for twenty minutes and I have no doubt they would have arrived at a wrong verdict.
I am glad V'landys is pushing for a return to a one referee system.

What a game that was, they were into it from the 2nd tackle. The send off of Hill was a laughable decision. Shit Cliffy was an absolute genius, won’t see another like him

These blokes not wanting the flu jab are an absolute joke, happy to send them packing without pay

Looking at my mob, Fonua- Blake doesn’t want it but is happy to have a needle poked into him to draw pictures on his skin, and Walker doesn’t want it but was happy to nearly kill himself overdosing a few years back

100%.
Those 2 you mentioned from Manly are a disgrace. Should both just be stood down for the rest of 2020.

Yep same with the 3 Canberra lads as well. I’m guessing they will cave and get their shots and play. Taupau was another that didn’t want it as last time he had it he ended up in hospital, but has since changed his mind and had the jab. I imagine these blokes won’t want to be called in to give a please explain to Des and Ricky on their stance

I liked Wade Graham’s comments saying that if any Sharks players go down that route he will be taking them aside reminding them it’s a team game

V’Landys has fought tooth and nail to get the game back on the park and is finding more hurdles from within the game than outside it, latest being the refs threatening to go on strike ffs. If V’Landys gets this 2.3 billion broadcast deal ticked off this week he goes straight into the rugby league administration immortals

Good. The two ref situation has not made the game in any way better. The ruck is still not controlled, as they believed it would be, and they're still missing errors left right and centre.

I agree that it needs to be looked at but it's stupid to change the refereeing situation part-way through the competition. That sort of thing should be thrashed out and trialed during a full off-season then rolled out from Round One. It feels like a knee-jerk money saver more than anything else. Will a return to one ref mean a return to in-goal touchies? Will we see a heap more bunker referrals? Will one ref be fit enough to be everywhere they need to be at once? etc etc

Kidwell v Mason is the most over rated tackle of all time, Kidwell came flying in and they had a head clash

The Campion v webcke one has been getting some airtime lately, PJ Marsh with a great assist that Campion didn’t need in that one

Kidwell is a cat. That was the only way he was going to get Mason.

You mean a 'cad'? A 'cat' in that situation would remind me of graceful, yet pinpoint, athleticism. Flying toward its target with almost bewitching skill...

I think you meant cad.

I can see myself going back to '95 in the next day or two. The aggro didn't just appear from nowhere, did it? I presume there was previous form between the two sides, the two individuals (Harrigan and Carroll)?

I don't think Penrith ever missed Bryce Cartwright. For a couple of seasons there they did think 'future club legend' and all that.

I reckon youd be fine in a dark alley with Monty unless you gave him some unreasonable amount of lip. Always comes across as a well spoken, smart, personable guy who was obviously a good trainer and generally had a good attitude but it just somehow didn't translate on field.

That's true, and I wouldn't mouth off in a dark alley to any of those guys from that 'fight for life' thing.

Funny thing was they mentioned in the commentary that they were team mates in a test match the week before

Think it was Blocker Roach on the other night who said that Spud made it personal against anyone that wore his number in the other side, and Chief wasn’t one to back away so off they went

No, I agree. You can't change mid-comp. I don't think it needs to be trialled for next year however - we've already seen that one idiot works better than two. Super League is one ref, right? Reserve grade is one ref, international footy has often been one ref.

I thought I meant cat (I've heard it used to describe anyone without a heart, someone who strikes and runs away) but can't find anything to back me up.

First I heard it was from old Reggie Boy, Reg Reagan

So it's a seventies/eighties thing!

A 'dog-shot' would be the contemporary term and one, I bet, that was used by Mason afterwards.

Although I haven't seen the incident in years I know the backstory to it. Mason was grinning (like only Mason can) at the haka. Kidwell thought he was mocking it, but Mason reckons he was mocking Brent Webb for being an 'instant Kiwi'. Or something like that.

Kidwell then did the classic Clint Eastwood 'shoot first, ask questions later' response.

Kidwell was no cat. Billy Slater is always the archetypal cat with his feet first tryline “tackles”.

“cat” in that sense being a sneaky ambush merchant, which our feline friends most definitely excel at.

I've forever labelled him a cat after he was in Bali partying with Robbie Farah in the midst of the shit Farah was going through with Taylor and the Tigers. That's an ambush.

Chief v Spud is ready for tonight's viewing pleasure. 1995, I've got the Newcastle home game, not the Manly home game or the final. Am I right?

I watched the Spud v Harrigon incident last night and was a little let down. The Chief began with a real hiss and a roar, was sin-binned, then came back on limping, before shuffling off for good in the 24th minute.

Anyway, back to today. The guy who admitted to the 'sofa incident' but failed to also disclose the 'Tik-Tok dance incident', and the flatmate who claimed to 'disappear into the safe confines of his bedroom' when the five ladies turned up, have now both been stood-down for two games each.

It's a comedy act!

So Nathan Cleary got a 2 match suspension for his lying through his teeth.
If I was in charge of the judiciary, I would do things a different way which I am sure would deter these muppets from having no regard for rules.
Instead of suspending them for regular season games, you suspend them for Play Off games. Now true, some teams may not make the playoffs, but it would carry over till the following seasons.
Imagine missing out on a play off game. No player wants that. I am sure that would be way more effective than how they currently do things. He gets a couple of weeks extra holiday and then back into it. Weak.
