Gerard Beale quickest over 40m in the comp?

Stats don't lie.
Beale during the off season ran a time which was .87 seconds quicker than what Hayne did in the first 40 of the Gatorade Bolt.
I never really watched Beale closely enough to notice this lighting speed.
I will be paying close attention to him this Friday when he plays wing.
If he gets into open spaces watch out no one will even get close.
stats might not lie but they can be deceptive, not knowing the specifics as to how it was timed + wind conditions etc., there are other factors to consider. eg. offseason was most likely summer so great conditions for sprinting, i was at the gatorade bolt, it was freezing cold, terrible conditions for sprinting.
knowing what Uate and K.Gordon could do in highschool as well as seeing them in the NRL, I would be confident to say they would be fastest over 100 m. Jennings would also be considered on the same note however injuries have cruelled him.

What does 100m have to do with anything, unless he races the length of the field it's never going to matter.

All fairness to Beale, he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who could break through 3-4 tackles to race the length of the field, I am sure he will do that against the Titans now that I have just said that.

I was so glad to see Stewart run him down the other week, hopefully we never have to hear it next time Soward is in space.

Watching Uate out of dummy half, he would have to be the quickest over a short distance.

Dude, Soward was carrying the ball and didnt quite get balanced...completely different

Stewart? Does nobody remember Vatuvei matching Soward for speed in the first NRL All Stars game. I couldn't believe it. Then Soward burnt Jennings. And I'm pretty sure Jennings is faster than Vatuvei

I reckon off the mark Soward is one of the fastest though, on or off the field. Everyone can beaten on their day though

Michael Oldfield has shocked me with his speed a few times this year.

He'd cover Hayne easily. Not so sure about Beale or Uate though.

What about in 2010 I think it was when Tony Williams tracked down Hayne :sarcasm:

If you look hard enough you'll find tons of examples like that.

Ok maybe i should've clarified that i meant he wouldn't be top 10 over 40. He would probably be around 5th or so over 100 i think.

Actually from the race itself he was beaten in the final 40. So his ideal distance would be 40 or 60 for Hayne I'd say.

He looks much more explosive off the mark on track, I reckon he'd be up there for any distance

I just watched that race properly for the first time. What was with Inglis giving up?

Because Inglis is fat.

I pissed myself laughing in Origin 2 this year when Inglis dropped the ball going for the intercept about 5 metre from his own in goal area... Think it was Sterling who said if he caught it he'd have run the length of the field.

Almost fell off my chair laughing as Uate was about 3 metres behind Inglis and could have turned round, had a 5 second breather and still have caught up on him before he reached the half way line!

I hear Mick Weyman goes well over the 40 :sarcasm::sarcasm:

Apparently Cronk is quicker than Billy over 40 and Dallas Johnson was also very quick at that distance in his Storm days.

Inglis would have palmed him off anyway. He's one person I have rarely ever seen caught from behind. Even since he's put on weight.

Hayne was another, until origin 3 when Yow yeh got him. Looks like he's put a bit too much bulk on.

Slater would have to be quickest over 10, he is lightning. I'm sure no one else could match him, on the field they can't anyway, its his biggest asset

I'd fancy Soward over Slater, especially over the 10. I'm not convinced Slater is that fast running in a straight-line, especially off the mark. His biggest asset is that he's elusive, I think.

And Uate would catch and tackle Inglis with ease from behind. Over 95 metre half the NSW team could have caught him. Inglis is better with players running along side him, coming in on an angle; He has no defence for people coming directly behind. People don't notice it because he's never really embarrassed or outclassed, he's still aware of support players and passes when forced. Not that it's a bad thing, but he certainly isn't a speedster in 2011

The same game he ran 90m to score a try... The run he got caught on he ran over 50m... so the rule still holds true

Soward is quick, but he's lost a bit of pace this year with his bigger build... What sets him apart in those situations usually is his anticipation and ability to get up to top speed in less than 10m.

In saying that, Hayne would be far from the benchmark over 40m, many guys quicker over 40 in footy terms (maybe not with a set start on a running track). I would expect Uate, Gordon, Mead, Soward, Stewart, Beale and Morris all to be quicker.

People don't notice it because it rarely happens.

Uate could catch him and tackle him with ease?.......yeah right.

Catch him ...probably

Tackle him "with ease" is bullshit.

Slater has competed in many of the 'Australia's Greatest Athlete' so he does sprint in a straight line and he's won the 40m sprint easily a couple of times.

Also, you're full of sh*t, Inglis would score....Inglis in space is untouchable, just like Jennings and Uate and tackling him when he's got speed on him is also impossible just like the other two....your bias makes you look like an idiot.

I agree with that somewhat, no one would tackle a run away Inglis with ease but I think Uate would go better then most.

Sisa Waqa would beat Uate from what I've seen.

I used to watch him play union and he was just outrageously fast. Watching him in league now, he is a level above any other player in terms of speed.

Yow Yeh ran down Hayne in Origin III although that was the end of the game and Hayne had done a lot more work than Yow Yeh. Was still a good foot race though.

I was surprised Yow Yeh could get a hold of Hayne. Hayne did very well though, attracting their defence and getting a great ball away.

the only way to solve this is for them to race you cant go off watching them run each other down on the field lol
