I watched the Behind the Music doco on Megadeth and a few things stodd out as perfect illustrations of Mustaine/Megadeth:

1) Some Megadeth album debuts at #2 (So Far, maybe) and they're all happy but then a Metallica album debuts at #1 a couple of weeks later (Justice? I dunno, but they both came out in 88, so...). All of a sudden Mustaine is crying like a little girl;

2) Their rehearsal studio was number 665 BlahBlah Street.

Mustaine and Megadeth - so close yet so far...

He's just a junkie who is still sooking. His whole life is about revenge, about being better than Metallica. Heads up, Mustaine, you're not and never will be.

You see, Hevy, that's tough because a "top band" produces quality over their entire life.

Look at Metallica, who I have spoken a bit about. Great first 4 but then serious deterioration after that. They can't be considered one of the best bands even though they have produced some of the best music of all time.

Ditto Cemetary (who made my favourite album of all time).

I'd automatically nominate Katatonia but they made Viva la Difference (or whatever it was called). Absolutely f**king sh*t album.

So I'd actually need to go outside of heavy metal to the likes of FNM, who produced good sh*t early on but just got better. Album of the Year and King for a Day are my two favourite FNM albums and they haven't produced a single bad one.

With Entombed, LHP and Clandestine were great albums but it starts to fall after that.

So, honestly, I can't say.

I too have seen that doco and you are right, Mustaine as a person certainly has flaws (I believe when he found god in 04 or something is when he finally stopped being a junkie, after 20 odd years), he is an outspoken guy and if you have your own wikipedia page on people you have feuds with, you probably are a bit of a d*ck! Still a genius though!

Even his peers admire him for how great he is, even though they admit they do not like him......but i guess those underground bands that you listen to that have sold 20,000 albums in their 10 year history are so much better and they don't want to make money cause they are only in it for the "music"......yeah right!

Funnily enough, Metallica's first album to go #1 was Metallica released in 1991. Countdown to Extinction debuted at #2 but was released in 92.......i don't think they have actually released an album at roughly the same time. I do remember that doco mentioning about the #2 vs #1 thing though.

Peace Sells, Rust in Peace and Countdown are better than Master, Justice and Metallica......

Kill Em All and Lighting were better than Killing is my Business and So Far.

Metallica changed their sound dramatically to get to #1 with Metallica, Megadeth didn't with Countdown and got #2......

Load onwards was pure garbage and although trying to redeem themselves with Anger and Magnetic, all Metallica has is the name these days! A$$holes make like 30 million a year and won't even come to Australia on their "World" Magnetic tour!!!!

Megadeth went down hill with Risk and Hero but certainly redeemed themselves with the last 2 albums!

Actually, I can tell you from experience that they wouldn't. People that write real music generally tend to look down upon the wankers that would buy albums from bands with big deals.
